    She will be greatly missed in Tennis. I don’t think anybody did what she did at such a young age. She changed the game by how she played. One of the greats of all time. 9 gran slam titles before 20. It’s just very sad that she was robbed of her tennis career like that.

      Cancer is mostly caused by lifestyle. sometimes bad genes can make some people more succectable to cancer. I like to eat healthy to prevent myself from getting it. To prevent cancer you can follow the accronym NEW START. nutrition,exercise, water, sunlight,temperance ,air,rest,trust in God. Cancer prevention. Monica had a disorder because she was stabbed and she actually won a gran slam title being over weight after her comeback. She would have won 30 gran slams if she was not stabbed.

      @640A 7 лет назад +3

      I don't think Richard modelled his daughters game on Monica's...since his daughters were strong and athletic it's pretty obvious that they should be playing to their strength rather than trying to be ''crafty''!
      The only thing they've in common is the aggressive style, their forehands and backhands are totally different!

      Serena and Venus idolized Monica when they were young...they both watched Monica beat the crap out of Steffi.😀
      Sharapova as well as many other players idolized her as well.
      I actually looked up the year end computer rankings in 1991.
      1)Monica Seles 4400 points
      2)Steffi Graf 3200 points
      A Whopping 1200 points ahead!
      This doesn't even count Monica's 1992 Aussie, French, US Open championships..as well as 1993 Aussie Open for Monica.
      Monica was so far ahead of Steffi.....Steffi was not even close.
      It's no wonder Steffi had horrible temper tantrums and angry outbursts after her Grand Slam losses to Monica.

      @Max E We all know you gave false stats in another Graf-Seles video purposely. Tell me the source of this stat. Also, according to Wikipedia, "from January 1991 through February 1993, Seles won 22 titles and reached 33 finals out of the 34 tournaments she played. She compiled a 159-12 win-loss record (92.9% winning percentage), including a 55-1 win-loss record (98%) in Grand Slam tournaments", so before Seles got stabbed by a Graf fan, she won 7 out of 8 GS she played in. Seles clearly had Graf's number and was on a roll for a 2-year plus period.

    • @chengshuyan4311
      @chengshuyan4311 3 года назад +18

      @Max E Yeah, except that Seles won every GS from the start of 1991 to 1993 AO except for Wimbledon 1991 (Seles did not play) and 1992 (Seles was all of a sudden not allowed to grunt), while Graf either got beaten by Seles in the final (FO 92 & AO 93) or did not even make it to the final. Not sure if this is not having Graf's number, what is.
      Federer also looked unbeatable until Nadal entered his sight, and it was the same with Graf and Seles.

    This match is Vintage Seles. Even though she lost the first set to Graf, you can see Monica raising her game and level of play in the last two sets. This clip alone shows Monica going more for the lines and hitting many out of the airshots for winners.
    Another good example about this match is you can see how Seles can hurt the Graf forehand on the run, esp from Monica's powerful backhand side, something she was not able to do with frequency after she came back in 95. With all the talk about "what if" "what could've", I do think Monica waited a year too long to come back on tour. She was also out of shape, something that contributed to many of her unexpected losses.
    Love Monica and what she has done for the game. Today she looks like a fit, contented woman.

    • @jayaujo9904
      @jayaujo9904 3 года назад +2

      Being out of shape was the main reason. And the stabbing trauma which probably caused her father's demise being the reasons for her eating disorder. You can clearly see the huge difference in her footwork and movement on court from before and after the stabbing. Before she's right up there with Graf on how well she sprung around the court. She wouldn't be able to be that effective double handed on both sides without the movement which proved true on he after stabbing comeback.

      One of the effects of bereavement is mental disorganisation. Seles had to wait until her mind was clear. Coming after only 2 years with 2 such major shocks demonstrates considerable will and personality.

    Of Monica Seles' phenomenal records, these will never be broken: winning her first 6 GS finals and winning 8 GS titles as a teenager. She also won her very first pro final, ever, 1989 Houston, over someone you may have heard of, Chris Evert, and won her first 33 matches at the AO before the streak ended.. All of these bode well for the argument that she would have/should have been the best women's player ever!! Even Serena, Graf, Evert, Navratilova, and Court are no match for Seles' early career. Oh, what might have been!

    Love that lethal crosscourt backhand slice by Steffi at 23:37, and then Monica follows it up next point with a powerful crosscourt backhand. Such a great rivalry that could have been potentially the best in sport history. Yeah, no doubt Steffi had some great opposition in Sanchez Vicario and other girls, but no, this here was the rivalry. There was something intense and feeling when these two always met, and it was a loss for sport it never developed into what it should have.

    It was really nice to see how Monica played very strategically against Steffi. Normally Monica played very much with power and groundstrokes against others. Against Steffi she played very strategically and never gave up. Steffi on the other hand was more athletic than Monica. She also had the power to handle Monica. But Seles mind was sharper and she kept surprising Steffi with her serves and shot directions. She kept attacking Steffi. I wish the rivalry could take its natural course.

    Monica Seles was my favourite woman tennis player of all time, just the epitome
    of grit, fire determination, and talent. If she wouldn't have been stabbed in 1993 at
    the prime of her career, she well could have matched Steffi, and Serena Williams
    for most grand slam titles.
    The best 3 women players over the last 50 - 60 years, in no particular order, were
    Graff. Williams, and Seles, and they all would have taken matches from each other,
    and it's impossible to say who'd com out on top. They were all great, however I
    think Seles is a little underrated, as her career was cut short by being stabbed in
    1993, in her prime by a Steffi Graff fan in Hamburg Germany.

    I really love the way Seles play. The word that best describes her style of play is "relentless". I kinda see similarities between Graf-Seles matchups and Federer-Nadal. Both Fed and Graf have that slice backhand and powerful forehand and both Seles and Nadal are relentless, few mistakes. Seles didn't move that great though. But yeah the stabbing really robbed of us of an epic rivalry - coulda been like the Evert-Navratilova rivalry perhaps.

    What Graf fans fail to understand is that Monica was starting to beat Steffi consistently in GRAF'S prime. Monica had just turned nineteen the month before this match, and she was already closing in on Graf's GS total (11 to Monica's 8 after this match). Monica was just starting to develop other aspects of her game (her serve, especially--look at the total number of aces during this match, 7 for Monica and only 1 for Steffi). Monica's prime was still a couple of years away. By that time should would have had 12+ major titles, at least! Even if Monica hadn't been stabbed, I concede that winning Wimbledon would have been a tough feat, but she would have made a couple more semifinals and at least one or two more finals. Even so, no one can dispute that she OWNED the other three majors, particularly the AO and the FO. Is it really so far fetched that Monica would have won 6-7 AOs, 6-7 FOs, and 4-5 USOs??? This would have put her in the range of Evert and Navratilova. No way Steffi wins another 11 after this match with Monica at full strength. She could barely get be the other top players of the era.

      Graf's prime wasn't the 90's, it was the 80's when she won 9 GS titles between 1987-1990. Without the stabbing Graf would have still won all the W titles (cause Seles sucked on Gras)... they would have split some of the FO titles, while Seles would have won more AO titles (probably all of them from 1991-1996 or so) while Graf would have taken some of the USO titles. They would both have had 14-16 GS titles.
      The difference is that as a Graf fan I can see both sides of this debade bc I am reasonable. The Seles extremists claim Graf ordered an assassination or was mean towards Seles after the stabbing which has been proven wrong countless of times. Either way, Steffi was more successful and just for the sting of it, i am mentioning this here bc all the vile crap those Seles lovers said is pretty special-needs mental.

    Graf was a phenomenal champion and probably one of the 2 or 3 greatest athletes to play tennis. But anybody who doesn't think her record has a great big asterisk next to it is deluded. When Seles returned she wasn't even half the player she was before. First, physically and second, mentally. Wilt Chamberlin said she was the fiercest competitor he had ever seen in any sport.

      maybe.. so it dsnt look to go beyond 11+3+2+1 =17 to 18 acc to me... 22 ?? how ,without hamburg? she would still remain great graf.. 18 means evert,navratilova,graf at par.... but this hamburg incident changed thencourse of tennis history... how much seles would win..my god difficult... 8slamsat 19 .. 3 slams each for 2 yrs.. even if she played till 30 .. that is another 11 years , only 1 slam a yr frm there also takes hed to 8+11 = 19...atleast..gosh...

      you can't just assume what would have been. You're using a backwards sort of logic. We have reality, a reality in which Seles was attacked and failed to return to tour at her previous level. We also have a reality in which Graf was dominant virtually throughout her ENTIRE career, before and after Seles. What we don't have is any concrete basis to assume that Seles would have automatically dominated had she not gotten attacked. While it may be LIKELY, it's not a given. It's safe to say Graf was fairly bad in the 90-93 period in comparison to the rest of her career, and in that period she lost to many players besides Seles. Long story short: Graf's career isn't asteriked because we can't assume what would have been in a different life. We don't KNOW if Seles would have maintained her level, and it's quite possible that Seles was an early bloomer who was going to fizzle out at a younger rate than others. What should be asteriked is Seles's career, not Graf's. Seles arguably would have won more, yes, but we can't assume how Graf would have performed moving forward, especially when post 93 it's commonly agreed that Graf improved back to a peak level

    • @anthonymos185
      @anthonymos185 6 лет назад +3

      Exactly. Serena's the female goat because her success didn't have ANY asterisks. Steffi was getting dominated by Monica before she was stabbed, Navratilova had Evert who was competing closely against her (and the time was very uncompetitive and less powerful). Serena's battled every possible injury and adversity and has played in the toughest eras in tennis yet somehow come on top every time. That said, Steffi and Seles in my opinion in terms of peak playing level are top 4 easily. Not sure if Navratilova or Venus belongs there in terms of talent.

      *****, pay attention: I've deleted message from you including in this topic because offenses are not admitted here too.
      And just for being CLEARER: Seles was better than Graf like a teenager tennis player, despite both were number one at 17 years and few months.
      Seles in a shorter period of 4 years (15 yo and a half to 19 yo and a half) got in GS: 8 titles and 1 r.u., and in Masters: 3 titles and no r.u.
      Graf in a larger period of 6.5 years (13 yo and a half to 20 yo) got in GS: 6 titles and 3 r.u., and in Masters: 2 titles and 1 r.u.
      So, the most appropriate comparison between successful teenagers careers should be done between Seles (8 GS and 1 r.u.) and Connolly (9 GS and no r.u.).

    Amazingly, Seles at this point was still growing taller (!) and getting better. Developing a bigger serve. Hitting harder and deeper than before. Thinking even more brutally on court as far as point construction. Frightening to imagine. This match exemplified her growing powers. Steffi was already a pure legend and surely the greatest natural athlete, most fluid athlete, in the history of the game. (Steffi could have been an Olympic-level sprinter, I am convinced.) But she found her proper foil in Seles, whose quirky, somewhat unorthodox style and killer instinct matched Steffi’s, and whose bombs off both wings were relentless. Steffi is still one of the three or four greatest I have ever seen play, but Seles had definitely supplanted her at the top and it’s a tragedy that this great rivalry was prevented from continuing under normal circumstances for both women. I think there’s only a very *tiny* asterisk that should be placed next to Graf’s record, but an asterisk just the same. Not her fault, either. Two astonishing yet star-crossed champions.

Monica would’ve won between 15-18 Majors and no way would Steffi had 22, she just wouldn’t because Monica clearly had her number everywhere except for Wimbledon. Between ‘91 AO to ‘93 AO (9 Major tournaments) Monica played 8, made the final of those 8 and won 7! That was incredible domination! But it wasn’t meant to be. She still had an extraordinary career!

    Monica vs Steffi on groundstrokes:
    Steffi: odd forehand, often very late point of contact, backhand non weapon, no one would ever try to replicate her style
    Monica: compact, contact point always in front, both sides major weapons capable of hitting winners from most parts of the court, a generation of women modeled their games after the way Monica hit the ball

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird 8 лет назад

      ***** No the game is way way faster than it was then.. The players hit the ball much harder and power is more of a feature. Seles was considered a hard hitter in those days but these days she'd be considered to hit the ball at an average pace. When the ball comes at you harder it's more difficult to hit those kinds of shots and when you do, the player at the other end has the power to destroy them. Anyway Steffi spent a lot of time trying not to hit her backhand- so when the power hitters came along she she couldn't run to the forehand and had to play her weaker side.

      I think the thing with Seles is that over that 3 year period she was getting better and better not just staying the same. At an accelerated pace. And the tournaments were becoming more and more dominated by her. The others won more over a period of time against Navratilova or Serena, but not in the same way.

    • @SilverSingingMethod
      @SilverSingingMethod 8 лет назад +5

      I didn't realize I was comparing Seles to herself, but comparing her to Austin/Navratilova etc. etc. which you mentioned. 1992 was a year she won all grand slams and went to the finals of Wimbledon. Then she one the first grand slam of the year at the Australian before being stabbed. In 1990 Seles won the French and...oh, right, no other grand slam. In 1991 she won the Aussie, French and US open. In 1992 She won all and made the finals of Wimbledon. She started beating Graf in the Grand Slams. Twice at the French and then the Aussie open. So she was getting stronger. Overall match percentages don't really tell the story. There are too many variables; i.e., sickness, skipping tournaments, playing less etc. What matters is that she was killing at the Grand Slams. The others you mentioned were not. Even Navratilova said that if she did not get stabbed she very well could have been the greatest player of all time. But what does Navratilova know. lol

    After this final Steffi Graf broke racquets in the locker and was very violent. She kicked benches. Her family was called in to escort her out. She was angry which also scared Seles very much. This was the hint. Steffi was sobbing and saying that she cannot win another grand slam if Monica keeps playing like this. She just didn´t want to play anymore. Later her father hired Gunther Parche. Steffi didn´t need to do that. She should have kept playing. Federer never wanted to kill Nadal, or Nadal never wanted to kill Djokovic.

    I am always surprised by the aggressive attitude of Monica Seles's fans against Steffi Graf. What's the point blaming Graf for that horrible act in Hamburg? Graf explained on and on how she was horrified and she felt sorry for Seles when she visited her at the hospital. Seles's fans are always considering a possible different future with "and IF... and IF..." The fact of the matter is they were both great champions. You have to respect both of them. Seles was better on rebound ace surfaces like in the AO : she would beat Graf in 93 and again in 99. On clay, Seles and Graf had equal results (Seles won the FO in 90 and 92 and Graf won in 89 and 99) and at the US Open and Wimbledon, Seles could never beat Graf. Remember how Seles was destroyed by Graf on grass : 6/0 6/1 and 6/2 6/1... Facts, only facts. Respect for both of them and that's it!

And I think, if seles was not stabbed, graf slams may only be half, like between 10, 11 or 12, while seles slams are probably around 15. Graf consistent rivals in slams are Sanchez Vicario and Seles. Bryguy Bry Seles was just performing better at GS tournaments, except Wimbledon. A number one Seles couldn’t dominate Graf, it was 3-2 for the great Graf. Seles has “zero” Wimbledon title and she couldn’t emulate Graf’s Golden Slam achievement in ‘88 even when she was number one. Pre stabbing, Graf leads head to head against Seles 6-4. Overall, it was 10-5 for the greatest female tennis player, Steffi Graf. 😀👍

    Emending my statement: remembering this game by watching it on RUclips, it is emphatic how Seles dominates her opponent's backhand, how she takes by surprise her adversary's forehand and how she exploites her rival's devolution, until the moment that Graf gets desparate in some moments of the third set.

    I found some Seles fanatics trying to mislead readers who don't know then days.
    Here are some facts:
    * Steffi won 8 of 9 slams before dad's scandal came in media in 1990. When this blackmail scandal was happened, she started losing. It was first to Seles, Zina Garrison, Sabatini, Arantxa, Novotna, Navratilova...etc. We know she never fight as usual as before.
    * Steffi's win-loss record was 6-4 against Seles before stabbing. 3-3 in grand slams.
    * Seles won 6 out of 8 slams in 1991-92. Steffi won 3 out of 4 matches between them. Grand slams 1-1.
    * Steffi used old racquets but Sles used much better ones.
    * But we would have seen great matches between them if stabbing was not happened.
    * Steffi met her in hospital. Tried to meet her but Seles's enterprise did cut her calls and efforts and I guess they even didn't tell Seles about Graf trying to meet her.
    Seles herself said that the meeting was deep and both cried in hospital, but she wrote differently in her book.
    * That endorsement deal story was wrong. Steffi didn't sign any new endorsement deal at the time. It would have gone to Sabatini or another player, but not to Steffi. By the way, name that endorsement deal please?
    * Everybody knows the truth that it was a psycho's attack. In fact, if Selas wasn't stabbed who knows she would have lost to Steffi every time. Steffi lost to not only Seles, but Sabatini, Arantxa, Novotna...etc at 90-92 period.
    * Monica's ranking? It was held in Italy tournament. Steffi wasn't participated in that since 1987. So the poll was held with other players. Seles knows it and she never blamed Steffi. But she should mention when she would come for freezing.
    * Steffi accepted to share her rank when she came back in 1995.
    * Everybody expected Seles would come to 93 US open, but didn't. It was her own decision.
    * I wonder how some fanatics estimate Steffi's slams count 16!!!? How? Even if she won at least 1 slam a year, she could win 18 or 19 slams by 1999. Seles never beat Graf on fast courts, but Steffi beat her on slow or fast courts.
    And how can we guarantee Steffi would not win that much? She would win or a bit less.
    -> They never met in US open before stabbing. Steffi could win if they met there.
    -> Seles met Steffi 2 times in Wimbledon, bot times lost to Steffi without winning at least 4 games.
    -> Steffi's 1994 AO performance was godly. Everybody knows Seles might lose if she played.
    We never know what if. But both fans have their points because both are really wonderful players. I respect Steffi and her hans, Seles and her fans, but tired with their fanatics. Some of fanatics wrote false and rude comments and they prove themselves they are same like Gunther Parche but in another form.
    Don't try to mislead readers.
    Forget numbers. Can you agree Serena is greater than these 2 if she won more than 22 slams? I don't.
    It clearly says numbers are not all.
    Steffi or Seles are great legends of Tennis just as Martina, Evert, Serena, Henin.... Can't we live with respect one another?

      @miali1869 7 лет назад +4

      Yes, she won 9 slams fast. And then her dad's news came out and she lost mental focus and started losing in 1990. That scandal affected her for sure (that news was took a lot of space in media and she herself mentioned that she couldn't fight as usual at the end of 90. She lost to Seles in FO, Zina Garrison in Wimbledon, Sabatini in US Open. And to others.
      I don't criticize but as you said it was her decision to play in 93 or not. But who knows who would win how many if stabbing wasn't happened or came back in 93. At that time, Steffi's better than 90-91.
      But we can say Steffi could win 18, 19 and Seles would have the similar number. But still winning that much slams (both Steffi and Seles) before 30 is really amazing.
      Arguing goes to no end. But we can easily say that Steffi, Martina, Seles, Serena, and some other greats like Henin, Evert all are really true legends of tennis. We don't need numbers to agree for that. Their dedication, and spirit show it.

Although not to discredit Graf's accomplishments, at the time of the stabbing Graf was sitting at 11 singles grand slams after 8 years on the tour. But within just four short years on the professional tour, Seles had already amassed 8 singles grand slams. I remember this match very well. In 1992/1993 Monica had become more powerful than the previous three years in which Steffi had managed to beat her (except in 1990 ). That year, Steffi had not yet found nor developed the right strategy to beat Monica (except on grass where her game was superior). Monica's game was much more efficient than Steffi on rebound ace surface. Then, between 95 and 99, Steffi played Monica in a different way using her short crossed sliced backhand very successfully.
    If Steffi could have served even harder and used her top spin backhand down the line more often - like Roger Federer does-, very few players would have beaten her.

    Every Generation 1 or 2 players rise up to the top of the game be it lendl-Mcenroe, Sampras-Aggasi, Nadal-Federer-Djokovic, Evert-Navritolova and the list goes on. In her short career Monica Seles, by the time she got stabbed defeated Steffi Graf 3 out of 4 consecutive slams the last one being this slam. She was clearly going to outshine Steffi and was only 20 years old with time to improve even more when she was stabbed.
    Imagine Federer without a djokovic or Nadal...how many slams did those 2 stop federer from winning? What do you think would happen if Djokovic or nadal were taken out of the picture. The rivalry of her generation was taken out of the picture and she collected slams like souvenirs..ofcourse i have nothing against Steffi he was a great player but greatest of all time at that point...i dont think so... she would surely not have reached 22 slams has seles been around surely you see that

      @Illya Kuryakin Seles stabbing predates her binge eating disorder...people may say it wasnt related but it was. If someone hold a gun at one's face he may get nightmare for years and affects a person psychologically indefinitely. Getting stabbed is a huge deal, eating disorder is the least i expect as a result of it. As far as death of father is concerned tennis players have lost loved ones before it didnt end their careers why should this be any different,
      Djokovic didnt have a winning record against federer till very recently...a few years ago federer was ahead..now a 40 year old federer has a losing record big deal. With career this long looking at h2h is the wrong way to go. Nadal has a winning h2h because of clay he leads federer 14-2 and that is where the difference has come..djokovic might have fared slightly better but it remained lopsided in nadal's favor on clay

      Monica was a major hurdle stopping her grandslam run 3 out of 4 times and she was just getting started in her career..she was proving to be better than steffi graf..why in the world do u think a german man stabed her....he wasnt a lover or a stalker..he was simply patriotic and he knew what monica's removal would mean....22 slams
      At the time monica was stabbed she had won 8 slams compared to 5 of graf despite graf being at the top before seles came in..Monica had also won 3 back to back WTA FINALS compared to 1 by Graf. So you see where this was going...The rest are excuses

      @Illya Kuryakin Court won 13 Grand Slams before open era...a lot of players werent playing...again Billie Jean and Court met in Grandslams only 3 times to my knowledge so not much of a slam h2h.
      Graf as i mentioned didnot have a quality rival after Monica Seles got stabbed...im not going to repeat myself again...Monica was a better player look at the stats i have been quoting...before the stabbing Monica had won 8 slams compared to graf's 5 and won 3 wTA back to back stopping graf 3 out of 4 times in slams during that time.
      The stats speak for themselves..but if you wanna deny the stats and believe something because you want to believe it then i can never beat that.

      @Illya Kuryakin my dear there was no peak monica she didnt hit peak cuz she was only 3 years at top level after winning her first Grandslam...say if federer was stabbed in 2005 2006...there is no excuse or justification...u can keep throwing stats at me the fact it before she was stabbed she was stopping steffi at almost every major tournament..what steffi did in a 10 year period after tht is not in question here

      but, she was losing to Seles most of the times during Seles's reign...how is Steffi a better "complete & perfect player" as you described, when she was clearly losing to Seles most of these matches?...

    Seles is the greatest WTA player I have ever seen and this goes way back to the 70s. She could hit angle winners from anywhere on court. Unbelievable talent. If the stabbing didn't occur she would have broken every record there was. It is such a shame that this one crazed Graf fanatic changed of course of history. All the majors Graf won since is indebted this crazed fan. Graf is not the champion that history records her as.

      You couldn't have said it better. It was so clear even if you were not an avid tennis fan . Seles was just better . And your point about records was exactly what Martina Navratilova also an all time great said about Seles. Today when I listen to some of these people try and hype players like Barty etc. to some exalted level I just laugh because they don't know what greatness is. I've been watching tennis forever as well and I never seen a killer like Seles before or since.

    Woah. Seles was really bullying Graf around the court on this day at least Graf looked like she was no match for her at this point. I understand that it was a three setter, but the two sets that Seles took weren't even close to being close

    • @tennislover08
      @tennislover08 9 лет назад +11

      And how old was Seles and how old was Graf. As a teenager she was beating the best player in history in a three set match with more then one break of serve in each set of a grand slam final. That is bullying at it's best. Just face it. Seles was just discovering her game and was already beating graf. She would have only gotten better. She is the only player that I've seen to not only beat Graf but overwhelm her. If you play tennis you know that a loss is a loss it doesn't matter how many points someone wins at the end of the day she loss and was losing to Seles consistently in big matches. I don't count Wimbledon because Monica wasn't playing at her usual level because of her refusal to grunt. When Graf played her best tennis and Seles played hers Seles often came out on top and that's what matters at the end of the day. Had she kept playing that would have weighted on Graf heavily throughout the years.

      James R seles still defeated graf 3 out of the 4 GS Finals before the stabbing. Yes, her momentum was stopped because of the stabbing, yes the course of tennis history was changed because of that even though you would never admit that, it is a fact.

      No, you cant say that "Would have been the same without the Seles stabbing" because you are doing exactly what you thrash Seles fans for doing - woulda coulda ..... You are truly a hypocrite and I hate to say that because I try and not call people names, but to say that Graf would have turned the tables even without the stabbing, that is clearly a "woulda coulda" comment which is exactly what some Graf fans (like you and george) say Seles fans shouldn't do regarding what their records could have been if the stabbing hadn't happened.

    • @jamesr2164

      Seles defeated Graf in 3 out of the 4 Grand Slam finals before the stabbing, that is proof right there - and you know it. But of course you would never. But Graf had been playing as a pro for years!!!!! But Seles came on to the scene and defeated her 3 times out of 4 in GS finals within just a few years on the tour, so obviously the stabbing stopped her momentum. Something you would NEVER want to agree with, but is true. At to back up just how awesome she was, even with the black mail scandal Graf went through, Seles even with the stabbing in 93, still won more Grand Slams in the open era as a teenager than any other. That is why one of you (one of Graf's fans just like you), stabbed her. Sorry that hurts, but its true. One of your own felt like Monica had to be stopped just so Graf could start winning Grand Slams again (because Monica had defeated her 3 out of 4 times in Grand Slam finals before then), and Graf was not #1 anymore but Seles was. So if there is anyone that you should blame for the turn of events, it should be your own kind. Because then WE ALL COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN if the stabbing hadn't happened. Yes, maybe Graf could have overtaken Seles eventually, or MAYBE SELES Would have went on to win a lot more than 9 Grand Slams. Yes? Yes!

    Seles exposed Graf's weaknesses in her game. That WEAK BACKHAND and HITTING that FOREHAND LATE! She got away with it with lesser players like Sabatini, Sanchez Vicario, etc but not with Seles who consistently hits hard on BOTH WINGS! Thats why she ousted and overpowered Graf as the top ranked player. Graf was a great player but made greater than what she actually was due to the stabbing of the true#1 player!
