    Monica was simply amazing. Despite being so young and inexperienced in the early 90s, she achieved so much. She's definitely an all time great. I really wished she won the 1998 French Open finals against Aranxta Sanchez Vicario.

    With eight Grand Slam singles titles before her 20th birthday, Seles holds the record for most Grand Slam singles titles won as a teenager in the Open Era.

      Open era records don’t count much since there was no women’s pro tour before the open era.
      It is about all-time records.
      I don‘t think Seles has even one in contrast to the great Steffi who has many.

      @@ChicanoPhD Monica took the #1 ranking in 1991 because Steffi played only the 11th-best season (of 15 full seasons) of her career.
      Would not have happened against average Steffi.

      @carrerau7138 She won 1 GS that year, she was supposedly the best ever yet she lost to players Monica beat in straight sets. And that was 31 years ago! When are you going to let it go?       At the end of 1990 Steffi had a bigger lead in the WTA rankings than Seles ever had in 1991-93.
      Therefore the claim that Seles dominated in 1990 is asinine.
      Seles dominated the SLAMS in 1991/92. But even in those years she still was 1-3 win/loss against Steffi.

      @@EleutheriosKaralis-yq9vl Even though Williams folded like a cheap tent on the threshold of a Grand Slam in 2015 she never was such a fragile flower like Seles. Serena would have turned around, punched the stabber in the face, had some band-aid applied and beaten Maleeva!
      OK, maybe not, but she would have played again at the USO 93.

      @@EleutheriosKaralis-yq9vl Steffi won 6 slams while under a (very public) criminal investigation for tax evasion, 4 of them while her dad was in prison.
      If there ever was a tough cookie in women’s tennis it was Steffi.
      A tough and at the same time sweet cookie.
      That’s why she is the most popular female tennis player of all time by a wide margin.

    Best return, best backhand, best passing shots, best angles, drop shots on the rise, best change of direction, overhead off the bounce from mid-court and the baseline, and strongest mental game without all of Serena’s melodramatics. Most grand slam titles as a teenager. One thing MN and CE are right about: Monica would have the most GS titles had it not been for that evil spawn who is thankfully dead.

    1992 was the beginning of Monica becoming even more ruthless with every facet of her game becoming even stronger. Minus the concentration challenges in the Wimbledon final, she was playing at level that seemed impossible.

      No, Seles was already in decline.
      She had only a 92.1 winning percentage in the 12 months before the stabbing (May 1992 to April 1993).
      Lower than the 93.8 % in the previous 12 months (May 1991 to April 1992).
      She had visibly gained weight (which would continue until the mid-90s).
      Anyway, her level in 1992 was also significantly lower than Navratilova's in 1983/84 or Steffi's in 1988/89 (or in 1995/96).

      @@carrerau7138 A minuscule change in a winning percentage doesn’t mean much to me. Her game was obviously growing stronger, and the rest of the field as well as anyone following the sport was well aware of how her game was evolving to yet another level.

      @@carrerau7138 Seles was the holder of 4 of the 5 biggest titles on tour. A year after the attack, Graf had won all four with Seles NOT being on the other side of the net.       Doesn't bother me at all. In fact I love seeing and hearing a player give it their all out on the court, and it must be pretty taxing physically to play at this level with two hands off both sides.
