I can easily imagine an alternate version of this video that goes on for six hours, and the last 5 have the studio lights off with Jane sitting alone in the middle of the couch with a blanket wrapped around her and mug in her hands, illuminated only by the TV and muttering, "Yes, come on Trojey. This time for sure."
I was Interested in listening to Oxboxtra bet and watch and shout about Digital Horse races, thinking it was JUST an untranslated game... THEN THE FIRST HORSE SWAGGED ONSCREEN AND I WENT "OH! It's THIS Horse Game"
I haven't thought about Japan World Cup since the original flash version with the grainy video in... the early 2000s? I remember a bunch of people at work watching it and someone complaining about how the two women taking their tops off was NSFW, even though they were wearing bikinis underneath...
After the Garfield video last year I was hoping we'd get something similar again. Please, let this be the new end of year tradition. Just some random video with no set up with everyone gathered around the sofa.
Last year we closed off with a random Garfield Lasagna Party video, now we get a random Japan World Cup video to close out 2023. Thank you, for all the entertaining videos, OxBox crew. Hope you all have an amazing 2024!
In case you're interested, 'horse' no. 5 is described in the following way: "Pirate Culkin Jr. (3 years old at the time), who attracted attention as the youngest jockey at the 2nd Japan World Cup, will be participating again this year. This year's participating horse, Seaworld, was caught in the ocean. Despite suspicions that it was an elephant seal, he insisted, ``In Japan, walruses and sea lions are also called hippocampi, so this must be a horse too!'' and forced his way into the Cox Plate, where he won the race. Participation in the Japan World Cup was also semi-forcibly allowed." 海馬 = hippocampi (literally ocean horse)!
For anyone wondering, the way this “game” works is: When the race begins the game chooses at random which racer will win and plays out a Whacky Races scenario to make it happen, and the “players” have to bet on which racer will come out on top in the end. Every racer has at least one scenario where they win, but it seems like some are more likely than others.
I didn't even realize it had been a whole year since Garfield.wmv first graced our screens, and now that I realize it's an annual tradition I am so very here for it. Great way to start 2024, although hard to avoid laughing so hard I didn't wake my wife.
My hubby and I once went traveling with my parents and saw some live racing. I placed a $2.00 bet on a horse sired by Seattle Slew's lineage. He finished dead last. My father called me two days after we returned home and told me, "Slewfoot(Not the horse's correct name) just crossed the finish line." It was too funny for me to be angry. Thanks for bringing up a good memory of my Dad and my husband both of whom are now deceased. Thanks for the fun and Happy New Year!
I really would like to see this as a legit computer game, sort of horse racing meets totally accurate battle simulator, just random racing antics with even more randomness.
That moment between 34:23 and 34:48 has got to be a Strong contender for the next Presh Mems vid!! Luke's roar of frustration at No.9/Mecha Hariboat(?) being edged out of 1st to 2nd was priceless! 😂 Tbf, there were LOADS of potential Presh Mems in this vid, lol.
I love that the thumbnail looks like the gang is having a new years hangover and suddenly out of nowhere they're watching horse racing. And no one of them knows how they got to japan.
34:33 I felt so bad for Jane here 😂 Also for some reason I really loved them getting most of the way through the video before Luke thought to ask where the balls came from.
I have watched the whole video, but I like to believe that they put Jane front and centre so she can’t use the mug to not take part and just smugly watch the chaos
30:09 Ellen giggling at "you can have half of my balls" is just one more example of why she is the OXGOAT! She's always the one giggling at the dumb unintended jokes that I think are hilarious and that none of the other OXcrew seem to have caught!
I nearly spit out my lunch I was laughing so hard at this. Also, "Uma" means Horse, so the pixelated entry might as well have been called "Definitely NOT A Yeti"...
Honestly, just when you think Japan must be running dry of deeply weird and surreal stuff something like this comes around. Congratulations (?) to all the winners!
perfect way to end the year, loved all of it and nice to see that everyone got a win funny that Luke said we are going to expect things to be edited out in a .wmv upload. no we are not. nice to see that slow mo bit and so great on the way they decided to end it as well
YES! I listen to Garfield.wmv to fall asleep every now and then and I was just thinking "I hope they play more utter garbage. That's a delight." This is the best way to ring in the new year
I cannot express how quickly, or how eagerly, I hit this push notification when it came through. It is 4am and I was watching an unrelated Outsidexbox video at the time.
My favourite part was when they said “its horses.wmv time!” and they horses.wmv’d all over the place. All seriousness, happy new year to the Oxbox crew and fellow fans!
Depending on when this game was relased, the Mecha Hariibo story reminds me of The Green Monkey. Cost a little over $16 million at auction. But never won a race. (Really pretty horse, though, and thankfully ended up at a farm that loved him to bits.)
Did anyone else notice that Pheromone gets longer as the race goes on, and then gets floppy in the middle if SeaWorld bounces off of him? (Well, Mike's machine translation called Pheromone "him," anyway. I'm not judging, just trying not to make any assumptions.) Also, yes, Hiro is a Japanese name. There's actually a baseball manga (and maybe anime?) called H2 about a pair of friends/rivals named Hiro and Hideo, which is a pun, because "hideo" means "hero." Speaking of Japanese names, in a bit of irony, the yeti is named Uma, which is Japanese for "horse." Also, he's apparently from Bhutan, which kind of makes sense (I feel like Nepal would've been even better, but that's just me). Does that mean that to get to this Japanese race he needed a Bhutanese passport?
There's no freaking way...I was just watching an anime about Japanese racehorses so I started rewatching this gem on YT. Now the OX Team just suddenly uploads this? What a day to end the year.
The instant I saw the title was Horses.WMV I knew what game it would be. Glorious stuff. This is the content I'm here for. I cannot overstate how enjoyable you five are to me. I will literally watch you do anything.
What I remember of my Japanese got a work out translating the horse names. I love that this has the same kind of energy that the Garfield game had last year. "Uma" is Japanese for "horse", btw, not "one".
The "MOGY" option on the main screen genuinely weirds me out. My wife and I usually refer to our baby as "Mogyoró", Hungarian for nut (as in peanut or hazelnut), most of the time shortening it to "Mogyi" (a common way to shorten it) or sometimes just "Mogy". I expect that option to deal with the babies of the "horses" in the game.
This is a straight shot of 190 proof joy to kick off the new year. Considering I’ve watched Who’s Your Daddy a minimum of once a week for the last 2 years, and Kill It With Fire almost as often, I’m thrilled you’re adding to the collection of random chaos and hilarity. The unfettered giggling joy the whole team shares at these ridiculous games is infectious. Thanks for spreading joy in 2024!!
You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that these out-of-nowhere zero-warning .wmv videos have become a time-honored tradition now.
Garfield was a year ago? 😮💀
Don't make me think about that. 😭
It has to be a tradition now, they've spoilt us, and there's no going back
Does something happening only twice make it a tradition?
@@MrPJParker1 Jesus came back once, and the Christians are still harping on about it, so yes
3:04 UMA = "Unidentified Mysterious Animal", basically what others would call "Cryptid", Uma also means "horse"
I've read enough manga to know that the Japanese love puns even more than Ellen does.
Good joke.
I love the part where Luke became a real horse race gambler and threw something in anger when his horse came in 2nd.
Sometimes he's called sasquatch and other times he's called big foot. Yeti never complains.
That is abominable!
But then the camera turns and reveals that the TV isn't even on
I saw the name, I laughed, and I cannot explain to my mum why it's so funny
Is this a new year's tradition now? I love it
I sincerely hope this becomes a new years tradition!!
You know it's going to be an instant OXboxtra classic when the title is just the video file name. Lol
Had to explain it to my husband too 😂😂
Never clicked a video faster 😅😂
Luke desperately trying to convince everyone he deserves more balls if his horse wins because he can't let it go kept me laughing the whole video
10 minutes in and this is already an all-time classic
You’re so right at about 9:40 Luke had already fallen into a classic gamblers fallacy
As an American, I appreciate Luke never losing faith in the horse we couldn’t be bothered to love.
Luke’s gambling addiction spiral in this is so funny 😂 why is he always losing his mind in these .wmv videos
Starting to think wmv means Westaway Mind Vehement
Between Xmas challenges, Mario Party, Mario Golf, etc. etc. etc. he's definitely the most competitive one. 😁😂
@@Tyr_Magnus i'll say andy is the most competitive
To be fair, I think the Garfield_notfinal.wmv was because he spent £34.99 on it and it was such abject dross.
Flipping love these videos.
I’d say Ellen is a good competitor for most competitive.
I was Interested in listening to Oxboxtra bet and watch and shout about Digital Horse races, thinking it was JUST an untranslated game... THEN THE FIRST HORSE SWAGGED ONSCREEN AND I WENT "OH! It's THIS Horse Game"
Has Oxboxtra ever covered a horse racing game? There’s a fair few of them out there

the emotional weight this damned mecha haribote has placed on me is exhausting. I loved every minute of it
After the Garfield video last year I was hoping we'd get something similar again. Please, let this be the new end of year tradition. Just some random video with no set up with everyone gathered around the sofa.
But maybe next time something more interactive and interesting? This is 99% the same thing over and over, only changing right at the last straight.

Golum for 2024, maybe?
I was cheering so loud when Luke's horse finally won.
As were his wife and child as they realised they won't be losing the house now
@@ethanlappin Except OH NO, he's now doubling down on the horse!
Had to rewatxh to concentrate on their faces
what'd you say?? can't hear you because of luke screaming...
2:52 the UMA/yeti one, "uma" means "horse" but UMA is also an abbreviation from "unidentified mysterious animal".
Nothing, not a single thing could make me happier than another one of these ones

Ellen's reaction at 30:10 to her colleagues' descent into gambling addiction was absolutely worth winding back and rewatching
I think she was just giggling at Luke offering up his balls to Mike.
I think that was more about "I can have half of your balls" but either works ;)

A true tale of failure and redemption. Long live Mecha Hariboat!

34:42 that "NOOOOOO" from Luke was SO genuine it rivals spiderman's blood- curdling scream LMAO
The elation when mech-horse and Halibut won was incredible

I do enjoy telling myself that any time Jane has a mug with her it does in fact hold her morning Whiskey
Everyone: "Mike you've gotta have the seal"
Me: "I feel like I'm missing information about Mike's past"
Mike: "🦭"
It’s because of oxventure where mikes character has a pet museum curator (who was hit with a magic mace so many times he turned into a seal)
