I have a D155 also, and having the same problem. I'm debating if I should buy a new throttle unit or try cleaning it like you were doing. I bought it from Home Depot and this year is the first time I'm having problems with it. It started surging and I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump, it turned out the pump was bad. That helped alot but it was still surging at high speeds. So I took the carburetor apart and cleand it. What a pain in the ass that was. I ruined the gaskets when taking it all apart, so I decided as long as I had it all apart I would just put in a new carburetor. I got it from Amazon. It was a real pain putting it all back together. I took me all most a week to do it. Of course I don't have a garage to work in so I had to stop durring the rain. A wise man told me to trade my old one in for a new one every three or four years. I might get a new one next year. Thanks for the video, your video is the first one I've seen on RUclips with the D155.

      Gary,
Wow, I hoped that John Deere would stand for quality, but your mower is a hot mess!
I can say that my d155 has performed well. It not only mows about an acre of grass, it pulls my trailer, drags a rake /dethatcher, is a mobile mulcher, and sometimes a grader (pushing material with the mower deck all the way down).
I try to keep up with the maintenance. But not always on a timely basis.
I did post a replacing the starter solenoid if you'd like to take a look.
      Hope that helps!
And thanks for watching and commenting 👍 🙂

@@workshopstudios43 I use my lawn mower just for mowing the lawn and pulling a little red cart. Before my D155 I had a Cub Cadet super LT 1550 52" deck. and before that is was a Cub HDS 2135 lawn mower. My dad had Cub Cadet's back in the day. So when it was time for me to buy my own lawn mower, it was going to be a Cub. I once hit a rock with my Cub Cadet 1550 and for the first time ever the rock bent the blade. Never had that happen before. So I did a little investigating the situation and found that MTD Products acquired the Cub Cadet product line in 1981. I believe the quality has gone down hill ever since. That's why I bought a John Deere product.

$20 bucks on Amazon now. Mine had a metal clip instead of a roller. It was busted.
