I'm 65 and had a quad bypass and a valve 3 yrs ago. My grandfather and father both passed in their mid 50s from heart attacks. I'm very glad I've come across this video. Thank you for motivating me.
Generally, good instruction, but everyone, everyone is different, and swings differently. The BEST thing most people should do, is practice a lot !! By practicing the Fundamentals, and muscle memory, this is the best for any golfer. Watching videos may help a golfer about 15%. 85% of great golf comes from hitting tons and tons of balls....there are no shortcuts. ⛳ golf is the greatest of all sports !!!
Agree with all these (positive) statements. I'm 70 and Clay revolutionized my drive with the tips on grip, arm extension, and (of course) the Pirate Ship!
Most seniors are not flexible enough to transfer weight from right to left with this swing, i say start with majority of weight on left side and let natural swing carry you through hitting area and finish well on left side, super simple. Try it and you will agree.
Hi Clay - am back, I have been lost in the maze of golf instruction video's, the latest being Moe Norman, which was a great experience, but I could not get the swing to work for me consistently, so I ended back to what you have been teaching us out here! I clicked onto your blog as this video was for seniors, am sorry but I am 70 years old and I cant keep my left arm straight far back as you were showing us in this video! Old age when playing golf makes one look back to when they were younger, when only using a 5 iron at a par 3, now taking a 3 wood, I am sure many seniors out here will know what am on about! We need tuition of a swing that will be easy to constantly use throughout our round of golf, our joints are not the same as they were, so Lets see more video's for Seniors, after all there are more of us than all those teenagers! Thanks Clay!
Thanks you. From France. Im 60 and golf beginner. Struggling with driver for 3 months. Your explainations and vidéos help me a lot to do the propre release. With a 270 yards carry expected my golf will bring lot or satisfaction
I just turned 62 and have always played two knuckles since my high school days. I will try the three knuckles approach on the practice tee next time. I had laid off golf the past couple of years, so I am committed to playing more this year. I used to be a12 handicap but I am probably not that right now. Thank you for the video.
I suggest if you want to get your swing back you should practice hitting wedge shots. This will bring back your timing. Practice hitting wedge shots for about week then go to your 7 seven iron, then your 5 iron and so on. You need your timing with your irons more than your drive. When you hit your driver you will see that you have your timing back. Practice the fundamentals first. 1. Your grip, 2. your setup, 3 your stance and posture, ball position in your stance. Use a mirror to practice. Once you have your irons down pat the rest of your swing will fall into place.
Clay, a big Thank You! I just went out and hit a couple of drives in my backyard. I have never been able to Draw a driver. It also felt like I had a more solid ball strike. I am 67 and have been a chronic slicer all my life. I can't wait to get to the range and really test this. Will this work with my long irons or just the driver? Thanks and keep up the great videos...
I was on a road trip and was struggling with topping and pushing the ball right. I watched your lesson, took a couple of notes, and bingo. Problem solved. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I tried this three knuckles tip today and I have to admit that I drove more consistently. I wonder whether I can use this stronger grip for fairway woods and iron clubs as well … anyway, thank you!
I need the strong front grip, will change the back grip too. I noticed you had the ball more towards middle so will experiment with ball position too. Thanks from Oz..
I like your videos, Clay, and you are a skilled instructor with a monster swing... but anybody who has played the game with any commitment knows there are no 'tricks" to a sound golf swing. Trying to convince amateurs that there is a "trick" to every flaw" is the flaw. There is no way to construct a golf swing by trying to replicate a collection of tricks... A golf swing is a sequence and a continuum of movements not a series of discrete actions. Instruction based on fundamentals is the way to help your students and viewers to progress ... and yes, I get that selling "tricks" for clicks is a RUclips business model... hope to see more videos from you focusing on swing fundamentals. I'll tune in for those. Keep well.

Awesome lessons!!! Thank you!!! I can now give my buddies a run for the money. On a side note. What brand and mode is your hat? Been looking for something just like that but can’t find one. I would appreciate it, because that sun is just killing me.
I really like Clay's teaching style BUT check out Jim Venetos swing for an even easier, more simple swing that produces a nice long draw. Much simpler than the traditional swing Clay teaches. We are not "top pros" and Jim realizes that and teaches a swing that we amateurs can use for almost immediate improvement. Incidentally, I am a paying customer of Topspeed Golf but the traditional swing was just to complicated with too many moving parts to get the perfect timing, tempo, etc.
The biggest difficulty with this set up is it limits your ability to swing through the ball --- Even though my back swing is somewhat impacted I get more distance with an open stance and being able to clear my hips for a more powerful swing more so than I do with a closed stance --- If you're inflexible you're most likely so in both directions --- Any thoughts?
I think you are right don't fix a problem that does not exist. The problem with many instructional videos on line, they assume a common flaw and base the lesson on that. They know nothing about your current swing. I still think you can learn from them but players should be selective before talking advise to the drivning range and course
Great info. I tried it. I watched the videos several times. And I still can’t execute what you are explaining. In fact I lost 5 balls on the first nine holes and “maxed out” on 4 of the holes. I am just resigned that this game will remain a mystery to me.
Clay - thanks for this - maps to my Top Speed Program and adjustments my PT is making to preserve my back! Question - in your set up in appears that you are setting the driver further back in your stance - is that intentional or am I just seeing things?
It's called the Nike Sun Bucket Hat and although it's not available anymore, if you search that term, you can find other similar hats. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Sure way to top it and incurca nasty hook. Relax the grip and let the right arm do the work - just hit it gently through the ball and towards the target. Jack Nickaus says aim left and open the face for a fade which is the exact opposite - try to just hit it straight towards the target with club face square before and after impact - otherwise draws become hooks and fades become slices - keep it simple stupid.
It all begins at address. If you stand away from the ball and let your arms extend you will hava a wide swing and vica versa. ALL PROs extend to the ball.. Every one.
Is it right to have more tennis balls on the court in womens tennis. I have played against very competive females and enjoy the dedication they have to the sport. When the sisters/brothers came onto the circuit I saw them first hand at Indian wells and we booed them off the court. We knew then they had more in the tennis bag than the the other players on tour. Strip them of their titles and have them pay back to the good of women "women sports" we need no fruit cakes in the sports world.
This guy is 100% wrong. If you want to draw the ball first practice by practicing your setup. Then drop your right foot back about 2 inches. This will automatically close your stance at the address position. You will feel like your taking the club way inside. You won't. When you drop your right foot back 2 inches you will be aiming to the right. But what he doesn't tell you is that you don't line up your tee shot in the middle in the tee box. You should line up more towards the left of the tee box so you will be able to draw the ball from "right to left". If you practice you will automatically see that your lined up to the right. If this guy is so good then why isn't he on the tour.

Clay what happens if you align your feet 15 degrees to the opposite of alignment rod
What’s you club head speed? I’m old. I swing at 80 mph.
I like it. The only issue for me is the change away from a neutral grip. It's super hard.
Hi Clay. Where do you aim the club face, at the target or directly as you line up at the ball??
Thanks for the lesson Clay.

very similar, but Clay much easier to listen to.
What is a senior with arthritis in both elbows to do to hit straight balls when the elbows can't be straightened.
Not many seniors I know can take that big wide swing,
What did this video have to do with seniors?

Search Nike Sun Bucket Hat and you can find it a lot of places. Play well!
Awesome tips Clay 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I tried the stronger grip but it has aggravated my golfer's elbow to a great degree. Will have to find other methods to hit a draw.
Sorry to hear that. Best of luck!
Hi Clay, loved your tennis videos; equally loving your golf videos. Are you still doing tennis?
What seniors have that range of movement in their swing???
Same thing with irons?

Maybe on Gilligans island
Azinger and Couples also use strong grips.
Is the face of the club square to the the target or down your setup line? I've heard it both ways.

I find that 'hovering' my driver at address promotes a draw - is that because it lowers (however slightly) the swing plane?
It doesn't necessarily promote a draw but for you, it may make you want to swing more from the inside. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Watched that pirate ship drill but my wrists do not allow a narrow angle with the shaft. Only if I let go my pinky but that doesn't seem right.
Ben Hogan 3 knuckle grip
Good
Thanks
I would certainly question the grip ,, absolutely deadly for anyone who is struggling with hooking the ball off the tee.
Me trying Clay’s tips
1. Aim right
2. Strong Grip
3. QUACK!
Haha...you're just overdoing it. I would weaken the grip a little. You may also be hitting it on the toe. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Swing in to out and roll those hands and daffy the duck hook is gonna show up.
Tryed 3 snap
Could you explain the same using a 7 iron?
It's the same thing. You just play the ball more toward the middle of your stance. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hey Mary, you can weaken the grip. If you don't hit a weak fade currently then you may not need to.

I don’t want a draw. I want straight. That setup seemed complicated with too many swing thoughts.
No worries. I'd just have your trail hand more on top instead of under so the face doesn't close as much. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
