“Oh cuz we black?” Had to be improvised cuz there’s no way Bowen would’ve broke. And it is one of the best lines from this sketch
That and "Antonio Banderas".
In an interview, I think they said that the line was actually written, but the decision to cut to that side of the table for a reaction was made right before the sketch aired, and Bowen was not aware of that. So he wasn't expecting to be on camera. Everything about that moment is so absurd and Bowen's reaction just takes it over the top!

Omg!!! Good for her! I live I Texas and LOVE NYC... took my middle daughter this one time and her favorite singer, Christina Aguilara was musical guest.. we got off the flight, ran to hotel, then straight to SNL.. stood in line but NADA.. it is too hard to get tickets.. waiting list is a year I believe. I was just hoping for a miracle. Went back to the hotel where we were upgraded to a suite overlooking Broadway due to a mistake staff made and watched SNL on TV. I was thrilled to have been in the same building that the show was taped in. Brandy is no longer with us however, I have that special memory.
The maitre D, Devon, used to work with me back home in Kyle. Pretty cool he made it to SNL.
This is the funniest I have ever seen Ego. She absolutely KILLED this sketch. When she improvised and used Pedro’s leg when the chair fell over was golden.
haha i was wondering if they put a stool or bench in place for that part of the scene, but I did realize Pedro was holding her ankle and was wondering why. It would make sense that he was just making sure she didn't lose her balance while she put her foot on his leg. LOL
Pedro's burst of laughter is the sweetest thing. This whole scene is hilarious. She killed it.

@@GalaxyNexus1 it's interesting... I know that SNL is famously strict on stuff like that. Because it's a live show, Lorne Michaels expects them to stick to the script and you can get fired for going off book. But I also think maybe he's softened up recently, because there's been a few skits like this where it really seems like someone threw their castmates for a loop. It may also be a situation where she approved it ahead of time and they just didn't tell the cast. I can see the show allowing that.
Either way she's pretty amazing, and this sketch was hilarious.

I love love LOVE watching Pedro think he’s safe looking at Bowen and the busting the second he realizes he broke too 😂 I love when you can see Pedro painfully trying to refrain from laughing. Like his while body flinches😂I laugh the same way as him, body lunges forward and my laugh comes from my gut and throat like a over the top Jim Carey laugh bursting out, so I know that feeling and it makes so much better 😂
Lorne Michaels HATES it when cast members break during the skit. He must have been going nuts on this one. It's an instant classic. More, please!
Really? It's gotten to where I thought he was giving them bonuses for blowing the skits. Laraine, Gilda, Danny and John never sat around laughing at their own jokes, because they were professionals. But these days, more often than not, the cast just doesn't give a shit about keeping it real.

Consider this, the reading rehearsals of certain skits coupled with time constraints, we're able to get this to live taping on the quick. It was during the performance that the cast realizes just how abysmally written it was and couldn't help but laugh.
In truth, the sketch wouldn't work even if they didn't break character.

AA The Carol Burnett Show was like this in a lot of the sketches where they were never ‘retaken’. The TV audience saw the sketches as they were ‘filmed before a live audience’. The ones where Harvey Korman was almost NEVER straight-faced when he was in skits with Tim Conway. Tim could never NOT crack Harvey up. Hilarious! Carol, herself, had a hard time keeping a straight face, too! Loved it!!! Check out Tim as a dentist with a syringe of novocaine; and Harvey as his patient. A classic.
At 0:03 you see Molly Kearney doesn't have a wine glass, so she tries to cheer into the air. Three seconds in, and this skit is already going off the rails. XD

Pedro was on one of the late night shows talking about this sketch. They almost cut it from the live show after it bombed during dress rehearsal. They made a few changes, mainly making the table shake a lot more, and decided to keep it in the show. Turned out to be the best sketch of the night.

I am ashamed to admit I wasn't really sure who he was until I started watching TLOU and then I suddenly got flashbacks to him in Game of Thrones. I loved him in Game of Thrones, but that series (much like TLOU) is so tragic that I had blacked it out. He seems so delightful and playful and I like him a lot.

Bowen seemed genuinely shocked and couldn't hold it together. I don't think it was her delivery. I think she ad-libbed AND it was the delivery of the ad-lib.

@tonymixtapeclub SUCH a great show! I haven't laughed out loud and said a real "WTF?!?!" so many times in one SNL episode that I can remember. Everything from start to finish was top notch.
The only thing that kept this episode from being a solid 10 was having Coldplay as the musical guest!
