Ex-MPD officer Tou Thao sentenced to 57 months on state charges

  • Citing his lack of remorse, Judge Peter Cahill opted for the top of state sentencing guidelines in handing former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao a 4.75-year sentence for his role in the murder of George Floyd. "To be perfectly honest, after three years reflection I was hoping for a little more remorse, regret, acknowledgment of some responsibility, and less preaching," Judge Cahill told the defendant. "Suffice it to say that I think your culpability is less than Mr. Chauvin, but well above Mr. Kueng and Mr. Lane as an experienced officer in the best position to save Mr. Floyd."

    • @ManWithUhDream
      @ManWithUhDream 9 месяцев назад +1

      Remorse has a lot to do with the amount of punishment. If I punch someone in the face and I sit there and say nothing or deny I did it, then I clearly don’t understand what I did was wrong, if I say, “god your honor, I wish I can go back, I know I can’t but it was just stupid, I shouldn’t have done it” doesn’t make me any less guilty, but a judge would apply a lesser punishment. Does not make anyone any less guilty, but part of punishment is acknowledging what you did was wrong.

    *NO, DON'T BRING GOD/JESUS INTO YOUR MISDEEDS.... MR. TOU HAS NO REMORSE! IT'S THE MISGUIDED NARRATIVE THAT'S TO BLAME* The Judge got it! Mr. Tou wants to preach to us with hopes of using the slight of hand, to deflect from the whole purpose of him being at a guilty-sentencing in the first place. Look, I believe in redemption, but I can also discern when someone is hoping to persuade my perception of reality to believe a lie. Mr. Tou is going to the perfect place that will provide him plenty of time to TRULY get to know Jesus. If Mr. Tou was truly one who understands Jesus, he would simply admit his transgressions and then ask for forgiveness of the family who will never get to see their loved-one again. Instead, Mr. Tou spent his time trying to preach a deflective sermon. I believe it fell on death ears, and frankly, it disturbs me, as I am a follower of the God Mr. Tou attempts to use for his shield of evil misdeeds. Mr. Tou has learned well culture of late, but for certain, he's learned the wrong lessons from the bible as he attempts to hold it upside down. REPENTANCE, forgiveness and mercy is the lesson he should be asking for today.

      @@kevinsmith4862 Kevin, I appreciate your comment. Normally I don't reply, but I decided to do so because Mr. Tou chose to bring Jesus into his sentencing comments, in such a strong way as to associate Jesus with his neglectful actions/inaction. Jesus would have stopped this murder. Mr. Tou chose to let it happen, as the court's evidence bored out. No I cant' see into Mr. Tou's heart. I truly hope that he has come before Jesus with a humble desire for repentance, however, I am discerning enough to glean from an individuals words and action, weather or not they are repentant. Not once did Mr. Tou express any concern about the family who permanently loss their loved one. This shows an egregious lack of caring and love at beast. James 2:1-13 says: "faith without love is dead faith.... 1 Corinthians 13:2 says: ...."I may have faith that moves mountains, but if I lack love, I have nothing." I saw non of the attributes of love expressed by Mr. Tou during the sentencing. I saw weaponized preaching. I did see and feel the anger he tried so hard to restrain. The judge saw it too. God redeems. I pray that it will be so with Mr. Tou.....now he has plenty of time on his hands to meditate on such hings. God forgives sin, but the consequences of that sin is yours to own.

Even though the man had done nothing wrong, he was detained, Thao ran his license and came back with nothing, but lied to the man and said he had warrants, handcuffed him to the police car and demanded information on gang members. When the man couldn't answer, Thao and his partner beat the man brutally. As with most police brutality cases, it was swept under the rug. This is why all cops suck.
