Just wanted to drop a comment in here that I made my first ebay sale last weekend! Your channel definitely helped me to figure out the ins and outs of ebay, especially concerning the standard envelope label! Tysm!!
People need to understand that depending on if the local carrier has a scanner sometimes ebay standard gets batch scanned by the main hub and will show delivered even tho it will take another day or 2 to arrive. Occasionally even 3 days.
Please keep pushing for this 2 and 3 ounce rates for other items. I do a lot of notecards and postcards, and this would save me lots of money. Thank you!
Just so you know you can already use standard envelope to ship postcards and pictures as long as you use the right size envelope. I ship them in a rigid 8x6x1 envelope. I do wish they would include patches and stickers but they have been telling me since they started the program that they are looking into it so not much hope
eBay standard envelope is new to me but then I’ve never had a need for this. I deal mainly in clothes and accessories but it’s good to know about! Thanks!
Someone else mentioned it...but I do hope they expand it. But I would have a hard time thinking of clothing I'd sell that would fit. I sold some Hermes scarves that would fit. But I didn't sell them for $20. Lol
@@TheChaChingKing LOL! Good thing on the Hermes scarves. $20 would have caused a stampede! I was thinking small pieces of costume jewelry -- rings, earrings, necklaces, etc.!
Priceless information, thank you! This would be a fantastic way to ship some of my "money pile" items such as vintage hankies and scarves. They fold so flat and weigh so little. What a savings it would be all around.
Lettertrack is a super interesting alternative. As of right now, I don't see any way to choose a service through eBay that would allow it. Lettertrack is basically doing the exact same thing that eBay's Standard Envelope is doing. I'm not sure why eBay hasn't already expanded it.
It's not available in every category. So, it could be that your listing your item in a category that it isn't available for. OR, it could be that there is a shipping policy created for it. If that's the case, you need to create one for it.
Just an FYI, a mail carrier can't scan the tracking on these. Mine has tried, and it does not register on his scanner. So there is not going to be any extra scanning done to prove that the envelope got to the address.
Correct. All of the "tracking" is internal to eBay. I probably didn't state that well. It allows you to ship much cheaper, but the protections aren't quite the same. That's why they have the value limit.
How do I change the defaults of this to 10x4x1 and 2 oz. So I don’t have to manually to it for every listing. This take the shipping from 1.25 to .97. Please help
You probably need to change your shipping policy, or create a new one. Here's a video I made showing how to create a shipping policy. ruclips.net/video/EODgaSNx0Ew/видео.html
One thing I do not understand, is where I see resellers combining shipping materials together to ship an item. For instance, I saw a woman take a cardboard flat rate priority mail envelope that was one size, and then place her item in that, and then slide that into a little larger, priority envelope. I don’t get it because doesn’t one priority envelope cost more than the other when one was larger? I’m also seeing people take those big triangular type boxes to ship golf clubs and put two of them together to ship them. How does this work for shipping costs?
The package is charged by the total weight and dimensions. So two triangle boxes typed togetger...you just measure the whole. The post office doesn't want you repurposing Priority FLAT rate materials. And you can't just use padded flat rate envelopes for bubble wrap. But, combining two boxes into a bigger one doesn't necessarily present a problem.
Youre doing amazing work and have been a constant support as I have recently started on my journey into Ebay. Ive got 50 sales in my first month or so and thats 50 more then I would have gotten if it hadnt been for your videos. I have a quick question, regarding the ebay standard envelope, since it is only available for a few categories if Im trying to ship something like a sticker in regular first class without tracking it would hurt my chances of becoming ebay top seller etc since that requires tracking. In your opinion, is become an ebay rated top seller worth it? If I want to ship stickers should I consider an all together different ebay account? How would I react if a buyer claims they never received the item that I ship without tracking?
Also are you able to recommend a thermal printer for a beginner? So far Ive been printing labels and using tape, but I wonder if I should do the same for now for envelopes?
I wouldn't ship stickers without tracking. Not only would it keep you from making Top Rated, you could eventually risk your account altogether. You could fall to Below Standard. You could eventually lose your account. eBay wants tracking numbers on that stuff. If you shipped without tracking and a buyer claimed they never got it, you'd lose 100% of the time. You'd be better off to sell small lots of the stickers so that the shipping wouldn't be such a high percentage of the sale. Instead of 1 sticker, the listing could include several. Charge a bit more and the shipping wouldn't be as much at the stickers.
I LOVE the Rollo printer. I truly do. There are some cheaper brands out there. But, the only one I've tried wouldn't connect to my computer. I'm completely sold on the Rollo.
Only problem is post office on these does not have to scan delivered and only does about half the time. We use a rubber stamp in red thanking the postal carrier for scanning but buyers are so dishonest they will say they did not receive about half the time. The PIP insurance is a little tricky to file a claim but we have always had success on the claims.
I haven't done one in insurance specifically. I will see if it works into the series. I mentioned it briefly in the First Class video. It's more applicable to the Media Mail and Priority. I've already recorded the Media Mail video, and I mentioned it there too (I think). I'll try to keep it in mind as I work my way through the series.
Great question. NO. The post office doesn't scan eBay's Standard Envelope. For the most part, the post office treats these just like regular mail. eBay is only estimating the delivery time. It allows for really inexpensive shipping for items under $20. But, in reality, you will have no actual proof it was sent or received.
@@TheChaChingKingCan I still use the option to get the label from eBay on a QR code on my phone and then take that to the post office? I don’t have a printer just yet
It's an older video, but I have a video called How To Create A Listing That Sells. I created it to help people optimize their listings. I may do another one when I get caught up, but the older one is still relevant.
Interesting as usual! Sorry if this is off topic, but I was automatically enrolled for international s-orders the other day. They gave me very few details. How do I calculate shipping now?
You don't even have to worry about the additional international fees. It's all taken care of betweenebay and the buyer. You'll just ship it to eBay hub in Illinois.
You supply your own envelopes. When I do the packing and shipping I will try to show that. These videos get very long if I put it all into one. That said, when I get the whole series done, I plan on releasing it in one long video with notes that can be downloaded. A free "course" of sorts.
This is for within the US. If you're using the eBay International Service, you could use the eBay Standard Envelope to get it to the Illinois hub, but it would have international charges above the US delivery charges.
You can use your own wallet. It's called the "eBay Standard Envelope," but that refers to the service, not the actual envelope. Any envelope you provide that meets the size requirements should be fine.
Love your videos. Thank you so much for the great information. I sell wedding cards with an authentic Sixpence coin and have been using the eBay Standard Envelope with great success. Lately, I have had a few orders that eBay shows delivered and the customer has not received the order at that time. I explain the eBay system to them and ask them to wait two or three more days. 95% of the time the envelope shows up, so I don't need to replace it or refund it. In the case that it does not show up, I either replace it or refund it. Have you experienced this problem? If so, how do you handle it? Do you have any insight into why the eBay system would report it delivered when it was not delivered? Thank you again for your great guidance.
Yes, the eBay Standard Envelope isn't actually scanned by the post office. EBay just estimates when it will be delivered and marks it itself. So, it can easily show on eBay as delivered before the post office gets it there.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you so much. I am going to add a disclaimer to my site as well as sending my standard reply when a poor customer sees "delivered" on eBay tracking and they have not received it. Thank you again.
I have a small flat enamel ornament that I sold for .99 that would be perfect for an envelope. Unfortunately looking at the list of allowed items this seems to be too specific to qualify.
Most wallets would ship USPS First Class. The cost can vary wildly depending on where you are and where the wallet is going. For me, I'm centrally located in the US, I can usually ship a wallet for $6 or less.
so the option for standard envelope comes up on all my listings when I go to ship. I sell toys and toy parts. some of these are very small and light. What would happen if I chose standard envelope to ship a toy axe? less than an ounce and less than 2 inches long. Will ebay punish me?
What a fantastic question. I don't think you'd get punished if it allows you to ship it that way. If it fits within the envelope requirements and the piece won't be destroyed in shipping, you can probably do it. I know eBay has been allowing more and more categories to ship this way.
You can go to any USPS post office to mail your stuff. I had someone pay for something when we were literally leaving town for vacation. I dropped it off in the next state. It got where it was going no problem.
Greeting cards don't qualify as far as I understand it. But, some of it seems gray. It let me list my merch stickers with the Standard Envelope. When I sell some, I'll find out if it actually lets me ship with it.
Really helpful, Scott! I have been mystified by this option for a while. Does the buyer see the tracking number within their order details when the seller uses an Ebay standard envelope?
I personally don't think so. It may work sometimes, but not always. The envelopes are supposed to be flat. A key could catch. It might work, but I probably wouldn't do it.
Hello, I have two ebay PWE stuck. One states limited tracking and the other one says out for delivery. Both have not been updated in two weeks. Buyers have not opened an item not received claim. I believe the items were delivered but tracking didn't update. Now I have money on hold. It's Paine trying to get help from ebay on this. Any suggestions?
I would reach out to eBay for Business on Facebook. Two weeks since the last update? That's unreasonable. You might also see if you could issue a package tracking request through the USPS.
I just sold my first trading card the other day using eBay standard envelope. The clerk at the Post Office scanned the barcode, but once I got home I noticed that the acceptance scan did not show up on my receipt. I’m guessing eBay does not require an acceptance scan
I think their tracking is almost all internal. So, I don't think it's dependent on USPS scans. You give up that third-party assurance...but it's SO cost effective.
Thanks for your reply. They are listed under decals and stickers but when I go to shipping, the Ebay shipping option is grayed outso I can't use it.@@TheChaChingKing
I have a buyer purchase 5 items from me and each item has a shipping charge, how do I bundle all the items and just have 1 shipping charge? Do I just refund them the shipping charges for the other 4 items? This will fit in eBay standard envelope and wt. is less than 2 oz. and less than 0.25"
I would just refund the difference if you can. Keep in mind, the combined shipping of eBay's Standard Envelope can only come to $20 total. You could combine all of them and ship it Ground Advantage, though. I cover how to do that in this video. ruclips.net/video/QtUVfJBj2UM/видео.html
I hope patches can be added. They are small, weigh less than an ounce. Most of the time the value is under $20. I sell police and fire patches. I just ship in an envelope with a stamp. My cost is 73 cents so it would only be a few extra cents for tracking protection. Every once and awhile I get my patch never arrived. With having no way to prove it I have to refund them. I have bought hundreds for my own collection and only 1 ever got lost. It would be nice.
Daggnabbit, I think I've screwed up. I've already made several shipments using the eBay Standard Envelope, and was just preparing another one, when I noticed something in the specifications I'd overlooked before. I bought 100 mailers that are square, 5x5 inches. The specifications state that the aspect ratio has to be between 1.3 and 2.5. In other words, NOT square. Will they be delivered with postage due, or returned to me? Or, fingers crossed, be delivered with no issues. And, do I dare use the other 96 mailers? Argggg, what will I do with them if not, put them up for sale on eBay? :-0
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for the rapid response. I've been sweating this since I noticed that requirement. I guess I'll find out when the shipments are (hopefully) delivered.
And it’s gone used the service for the first time and it disappeared no tracking updates no updates period customer states they never got so now the items gone and lost on shipping 🤦🏽♂️
Included with the Standard Envelope is something called the "Shipping Protection Plan." I'll include a link for it. It won't update automatically through USPS because they are not the ones providing "tracking." So, you won't be able to input that tracking number into USPS and follow its progress. eBay is the party offering this as a service to allow less expensive items to be bought and sold on the platform. You should be covered up to the $20. Here's the link. pages.ebay.com/sell/standarddelivery/termsofservice.html
Sorry I know this question doesn't pertain to this video. Did you notice a HUGE rate increase via UPS shipping on ebay (recently)? I went to buy a few labels for some sold items, an item that would've cost around $10 was $20. This is brand new to me, all the shipping prices had been normal up til today. I thought maybe it was a glitch, so I checked with another item I sold and typically it would've cost around $15 and it was nearly $25. So I went over to UPS website and plugged in the numbers to see what their retail rate was. It was up to $35. I'm not sure what's going on. USPS pricing is still normal for priority mail. The same item that is $25 (now) via UPS is $15 through USPS.
I'm not sure. I haven't tried to put something like that into a category that will ship via the standard envelope. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what the hold up is with eBay. If the tracking number is internal, they should be able to just make it happen.
Sir,Could you make a video please , ebay --(Sorry, we couldn't find a delivery service for this order. The order must be sent from the US.Retry) Thanks,
It sounds as if you are trying to ship something from outside the US. Is that correct? If so, I don't have any way at all to show you a solution. All of my shipping is from within the US. You need to contact Ebay for Business on Facebook and see if they can direct you. I wouldn't have any way to know how to do what it appears that you need.
Guitar picks?? I have a collection that I am selling, and they fit perfect in an envelope. I sent 2 out this week without tracking. I don't trust this.
I completely understand. The "tracking" is only eBay generated and not through the post office. I'm sure that's why they've incorporated a $20 maximum on the price. Just limit the risk.
In the 90's, I sold lumber on eBay. I actually shipped 100 board feet of mesquite to Alaska once. That isn't even possible anymore. It would absolutely cost more than the lumber was worth.

Can you ship bumper stickers?
If it can be listed in the Stickers and Decals category and fit in an envelope that is no larger than about 6" by 11.5", it should be just fine.
@@TheChaChingKing The items combined to less than $15.
Patches would be a perfect addition
It will most likely be just fine. And, if you shipped them through eBay, if there is an adjustment, you'll just get charged for them.
I did not see a significant jump in the last couple of weeks. That said, it definitely went up in the last year or so.
I'm an artist and I sell art cards. They are exactly the same size as a baseball card. Will Ebay allow me to ship in a standard envelope?
👍
What does a eBay standard envelope look like? Do you buy them through eBay or is a regular envelope ?
You can use any envelope you choose. It just has to fall within those dimensions.
@@TheChaChingKing Got it. Thank you.
It's Arn Anderson's cousin!
LOL
The high cost of shipping is making selling on ebay not worth it any more! In a lot of cases, shipping will exceed the profit
In the 90's, I sold lumber on eBay. I actually shipped 100 board feet of mesquite to Alaska once. That isn't even possible anymore. It would absolutely cost more than the lumber was worth.
Just want to say how much i appreciate this video! Getting started with eBay now and these are the exact questions that become a bit of a pain in the butt to find in other ways. Thank you !
