Thanks for your videos! After living in the same home for 50 years I am faced with having to move due to sky high property taxes. In preparation for moving, I have been collecting things throughout the house to donate or throw out as I thought it might be too hard to try to sell any of it. Thanks to your videos I no longer feel overwhelmed just wondering what I would have to do if I did try to sell some of it instead. Lord knows, I could certainly use whatever money I could make on ebay. Thanks, again.
Amazing breakdown! Tells me I am on the right path. I hate all those item specifics but go through them. Most common comment in my feedback is “Better than described”. I tell and photo down to the tiniest flaw. I use calculated shipping because my items are boxed before listing so I have accurate measurements and weights. We are committed to reusing boxes and shipping materials to lessen our impact on the environment. But that’s my business model. I hate selling items and then scrambling for materials to ship with after it’s sold. That works for us. We are also booksellers so that is an easy shipping category. Recently moved into more categories but tend to stay in vintage and collectibles. I am now thinking of accepting returns. I hate it when’s buyer tries to scam me and will usually take action immediately and take the time to call eBay. It’s amazing how doing that can get the case closed in my favor while on the phone with eBay. They will look at that buyers feedback and return rate to see that the particular buyer makes a habit out of it. A good number of times I check back to see that the buyers account has been closed by eBay after my call. Harsh? Maybe. But no one will have to go through what I did (until that scammer opens a new account 🙄) We have been on eBay since 2002 and boy how eBay has changed. We just roll with it but it’s definitely a buyers market now. I long for the good old days lol.
I've been on since 99. Remember when you'd wait for a check to get mailed to you? Lol. I used to actually ship as soon as they said they had sent a check. Never got burned. I WOUKD NEVER DO THAT NOW! lol
I was searching for something a few years ago. It was an article of clothing and I was just looking for a replacement for something I had worn out. Item specifics helps out buyers looking for hard to find items. Maybe. Country of origin is one of those fields. And materials. I like databases so as a seller it's no big deal. I think it helps me that a lot of sellers hate item specifics.
This is fantastic. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. It's proof that just because I don't understand something doesn't mean that it isn't valuable. Thank you.
just started ebay listings, got m'y first 2 up, 1991 canon sure shot max and vintage levi's womens jacket. this video was great, helped me out so much from how to describe to the shipping cost and amount of pictures. Thank you so much. I subcribed and will now watch all the video. Thank you for your help from your years of knowledge.
I have bought all kinds of tape including scotch but I LOVE tartan tape, if it gently sticks to the paper label I can pull it off and reuse. It tears easily, never lose the edge (and never lose a roll). Flexible. And cheaper!!
Great job of covering the listing process. I found it reassuring that I’m on the right track. When I find my sales slowing down it makes me think I’m doing something wrong. It is probably ebay changing things. In the meantime, I keep on listing and hoping things look better in the future!
I feel exactly the same way when things aren't as busy as I would like them to be. Trust the process and keep working. Keep listing and learning and you'll be fine.
Seems like the google angle is that Google can easily figure out what the subject of the picture is and then to include the image with meta data in search and image search.
That's exactly what the angle is. The good news is that the Google image search is rapidly progressing beyond the need for a high-contrast background. I never noticed much of a difference in Google traffic to my items either way. But, I think that it is just about a thing of the past.
One of my biggest pet peeves when perusing eBay is the ubiquitous floor pic. It is not appealing to know that the item was pictured/placed on one of the dirtiest surfaces in any house (where everyone walks and things are spilled, dust, pets etc). It also let's me know that the seller couldn't even be bothered to simply place the item on a table, piece of paper, or piece of fabric to take a picture of the item. This makes me wonder what else the seller doesn't care about (honest description, shipping, or customer care).
😂 Most people taking pics on their beautiful wood floors have clearer floors than those creepy mannequins or crumble clothes on a hanger. Germs are everywhere and If it bothers you that much, wash the item immediately when received, which you should be doing anyway.
I never thought of it that way. I grew up in a German household, so we always wore slippers in the house (Hausschuhe). I have always pictured the floor to be clean because outside shoes are not allowed. Given that most Americans and UK households allow shoes in the house, I can understand who you can get to that opinion. I will take your advice on board and stop photographing my goods on the floor.
Wonderful video, great presentation and understanding of the subject matter. Now it is Feb, 2023 and I just rewatched this video. You deliver sage advice on all aspects of this business! One thing is "no bad spelling" which just grates on so many people. I have not paid much attention to categories when creating a listing. Need to pay more attention to that...
Your explanations so thorough with lots of valuable information. I so enjoy watching your videos. Learning what is needed before giving Ebay a try to sell. Only thing stalling me is the shipping I need to understand better.
Shipping is, without a doubt, the scariest part of selling on eBay. But, one of the things I like to remind new sellers is that shipping isn't scary to anyone who is already selling. They may not like it. They might find it time consuming. But none of them are afraid of it. So, experience should absolutely take away the fear. Start with things you know won't get broken and are easy to package, measure and weigh. The video I'm editing now covers the 5 most common shipping questions. Maybe it will help some, too.
I enjoy your videos. Thank you for all of the great educational content! I am learning a lot from you & going back through your videos from the beginning. As someone who intends on selling on eBay in the near future your information is invaluable. Thank you for being generous with your knowledge!
Great video! I actually sold on eBay for several years back in the early days. I remember when I first started you had to have your own web space to have a picture attached to your listing with a link, and you waited on a money order to arrive in the mail before shipping. 😅Looking forward to putting your advice to work on some new listings.
You go WAY back! Remember when everything was done with checks or money orders? I used to ship out the item as soon as the customer said they had put a check in the mail. LOL I never once had a problem. The scammers just hadn't caught on yet.
Wow, so very helpful!!! Concise, clear and very detailed information!!! The Fi Sellers unboxed your gifted box to resell and suggested your channel. You inspire kindness!! Very much appreciated!!!💯👏
They are both such wonderful people. I am very blessed to get to surround myself with awesome people. I haven't sold any $12,000 mystery boxes yet, though. :-)
Thank you so much for this great information! You said something towards the end that I was wondering about: when I list my item,: let’s say somebody wants to buy it, can I choose whether to sell it to them, or can I wait for somebody else, what are my options when it comes to selling to people who show interest?
If they make an offer, then you have a choice. If they buy it outright, it's sold. But I do check the feedback buyers leave other sellers with virtually every offer I get. If they use negative feedback like a weapon, I don't do business with them
Great channel! Ive been a casual seller since 08, and am trying to make it into a side income but sales are slow. I have NOS motorcycle parts, thousands of them...and it takes time to list! Things are done a bit different in Canada but most of your advise still applies. I think the tax's they added to sales last year hurt me a bit. cheers

Thank you so much for this excellent video, which was very valuable to me. I am now starting to change my keywords from all capitals to just the first letter. First time listening to you. I have subscribed now. :)
Hello! I love and appreciate your videos so much. Thank you! Can I ask you a question? What category would you put vintage books in? Please let me know. Thanks!
When you search for an item, it will tell you how many listings there are. Then, on the left hand side of your screen, scroll down until you find the SOLD button. Click that. Then you will see how many have sold.
Watched your tutorial on listing my first item. Wanted to say thank you because it helped me out a lot. Two questions , first of all, you never did say anything about where to fill in the payment info ? And I never seen it anywhere on the seller page ? I went back into my account and set up a payment method and hopefully that is how I will get paid it my item sells ? The other question is ., you covered a lot of content in your tutorial , but I was just wondering how much does a person actually make if say he is selling something for $20 ? It really appears that by time ebay deducts their fees, there's no money left ? Is there a certain price range for selling items that a newby should aim for ? Again, thanks for the tutorial and I'm kind of new to the ebay scene , so really don't know how I would ever hear back from you on the questions anyway ? I'll just keep and eye out for new content and maybe hear something that way . Have a good day and hope you have a prosperous year.
Sorry for the slow reply. I was in North Carolina. You may not be able to input your payment information until you make a sale. If I remember correctly, that's what it did to me the first time. On the second question, let's break it down a bit. I think it's a good question. On a $20 sale, eBay will get in the neighborhood of 15%. So, $3. And, if you had free shipping on that and it costs $6 to ship, you'd be at around $11. How much you profited would depend on your shipping materials and how much you paid for the item. I have some mop pads that I clear about $5 every time they sell. That normally wouldn't be nearly enough to mess with. EXCEPT, I've sold around 3000 of them over the last 7 years I've had them. All from one listing that is super easy to ship out. But, outside of those kinds of exceptions, I aim for a bit higher price. I really don't like to fall below $25 if I can help it. The last time I looked at my average sale price it was well over $50.
Great video as well as the information and surprising you telling it free 😊some they charge for it as taking classes. Please send my regards to Melody. Thank you 🙏
I don't think I'll ever charge for these. I really want them to be accessible to the people who need them most. Mel is here reading the comments with me. Thank you so much!
I thought if you allow returns, you should have a shipping cost in the initial listing?? If not, it's on the seller to pay for the shipping cost back???
It's still up to you how you want to do it. If you include shipping the price of the item and halve "free shipping," you'll eat the cost of the original shipping if you get a return. If the person is on the level, I usually refund it anyway. Keep in mind, my return percentage is so low that it doesn't have much of an impact on my business at all.
What a tremendously helpful video. Wow! Thank you! I am a new reseller. My preference is absolutely to be a long tail seller but I have very VERY little room for inventory.
If you plan on being a long tail seller AND you have very little room, you'll either need to keep your inventory very low or focus on very small items. Either could work.
Great advice. I offer free shipping because I sell smaller craft items like scrapbook stickers. But my larger items like paper pads I do charge shipping. Do you have advice on how to price your items? What is meant by competitive pricing? Should I price my items slightly lower than other listings? Thanks, I’m learning so much from your tutorials!
Competitive pricing just means to make sure your prices are in line with your competitors. I've always been willing to price my items on the higher end and wait for the right buyer. But we have been moving more towards taking less and getting things sold. The reality is to do what works best for you. We've decided we want to reduce clutter and keep things moving.
Hi. Your videos have been invaluable for a novice ebay guy. Regarding your condition notes. Is this something you create yourself within the description section, because the "condition" field I see cannot be edited, just a selection with no place for notes. Thanks
It depends on what is being listed. A lot of categories and conditions don't let you add a note there. A lot of vintage items do not allow that. A lot of new items don't allow it either. That may be the reason it isn't available to You.
I often get Watchers on BUT IT NOW and that makes me think they're worried the price may go up? Do you think a regular buyer actually knows the difference between Auction and Buy It Now? Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
New subscriber here. My wife and I have had initial conversations of trying reselling as a side hustle (We have 2 kids, coach sports and we're both teachers so free time isn't exactly on our side until summer time!) She wants to sell solely on FBMP to avoid the hassle of shipping (we have sold things on FBMP over the past few years, but not much volume to be considered a side hustle). After watching a few of your eBay tutorials I'm having second thoughts and think eBay is the way to go. A few questions for you: 1) Is it really viable to start up a small reselling business in the current state of the economy? (We would be starting an eBay account from scratch with not much inventory) 2) Is it more beneficial to have more places to sell, (FBMP, eBay, Poshmark, Etsy, etc.) or is that too big of a headache to handle when starting out? 3) Not a question, but a big thank you for posting these educational videos on reselling. I have probably watched 5-6 videos the past few days and your attention to detail is really refreshing. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I wouldn't try to sell on a bunch of platforms. FBMP and ebay wound be plenty. As far as whether or not it's a good time, given the state of the economy, I'd argue it's a great time. More than ever, the younger generation is looking for sustainable fashion. People are looking for cheaper items and good seconds hand items are often a more affordable choice. Finally, virtually everyone is becoming more and more accustomed to shopping from their phone and computer. Reselling fills a lot of voids at a time when people need it to. Just my 2 cents
You need at least a little contrast for your item to show up. A white background works for most things. It is good to have an alternate background for items that blend into blend too much to photograph.
The condition notes are near the top...under the title. Some items don't have that box. Some vintage items and some new items won't have that box available
What is your listing to successful sales ratio roughly? And how do you handle 'send offers'? Back in to this after a many years and seems I'm listing more for fewer sales. Thank you
I'm not entirely sure I understand. Are you asking me my sell-through rate? Like, what percentage of my listings sell every 90 days? If so, roughly 30%. I list a lot of rare, one-off items. And I list them at a higher price. So, my sell-through rate is lower as a result. But, my average sale price last year was close to $60. My business is intentionally more long-tail. I accept offers. Two reasons. First, I get more sales as a result. But that isn't the number one reason. My number one reason for accepting offers is that I get a chance to see the feedback that a potential buyer makes BEFORE I do business with them. I recently had someone make an offer that left at least 50% negative feedback! Ugly stuff. And I had an opportunity to see that before she bought something from me. Does that help?
Great video, for those concerned about scammers, if you are selling an item with a serial number, make sure it's visible in at least one of your pictures. That way if you have a return, you can verify that they are returning the same item that you shipped them.
That's is an excellent tip!

100%
25:27 I have scored some great finds on ebay by looking specifically for misspelled listings.
100%.
- use as many characters in your title as possible
- clean and clear pictures, identify defects so buyer has no surpirses
- list in the correct category (watch out for "list one like this")
- do the item specifics, then copy them into the description for even more details
- condition notes: again making sure no surprises
- good listings sell &b stay sold! so be sure your description is done well so the buyer knows what to expect
- offer returns (for most businesses) because if scammers wanted to, they can just say the item wasn't as described
- he actually has a video on shipping charges that goes deeper into it, just watch that one
- most are buy it now listings

Lord knows, I could certainly use whatever money I could make on ebay. Thanks, again.
This is a terrific way to move some things and make a few dollars doing it. It has been a tremendous side hustle for us.
Harsh? Maybe. But no one will have to go through what I did (until that scammer opens a new account 🙄)
We have been on eBay since 2002 and boy how eBay has changed. We just roll with it but it’s definitely a buyers market now. I long for the good old days lol.
I've been on since 99. Remember when you'd wait for a check to get mailed to you? Lol. I used to actually ship as soon as they said they had sent a check. Never got burned. I WOUKD NEVER DO THAT NOW! lol
What was the scam that this buyer was trying to get away with? Trying to understand and learn…
Thanks for making our sales much better God is blessing you
I truly appreciate this comment. :-)
Thank you.
Just found you.Thank you so much for doing the videos I feel like i just struck gold. The best info ever
Awesome! Thank you! I truly appreciate the encouragement.
just started ebay listings, got m'y first 2 up, 1991 canon sure shot max and vintage levi's womens jacket. this video was great, helped me out so much from how to describe to the shipping cost and amount of pictures. Thank you so much. I subcribed and will now watch all the video. Thank you for your help from your years of knowledge.
I am really hoping to create helpful videos. I truly appreciate the feedback.
A white background is perfect everytime why because no distraction you got that right. It works perfect everytime.
Some things just work.
You are a great teacher!
Thank you so much!
I have bought all kinds of tape including scotch but I LOVE tartan tape, if it gently sticks to the paper label I can pull it off and reuse. It tears easily, never lose the edge (and never lose a roll). Flexible. And cheaper!!
I'll have to give that a try, too.
I love this and I wish I knew you in real life; you are a blessing and a 💎!
I genuinely appreciate the kind words. I want these videos to be helpful and encouraging to the people who watch them.
Love the outline! Thanks for alllll the good-will 🕊❤
I just got started selling on eBay and it’s been trying. Your videos are so helpful and easy to follow. Thank you
I'm super happy to hear that. My goal is to make videos that are genuinely helpful. Thank you so much for commenting.
You, my friend, are top notch. Excellent presentation.❤
Thank you so very much.
Very true. Having a nice clean picture can easily distinguish your item from the others.
😂 Most people taking pics on their beautiful wood floors have clearer floors than those creepy mannequins or crumble clothes on a hanger. Germs are everywhere and If it bothers you that much, wash the item immediately when received, which you should be doing anyway.
@ShazRetroVibes😂 I see what ya did there!
@ShazRetroVibes my jaw hits the ground when i see it
I never thought of it that way.
Thank you so much!
Great Tips! Just subbed! The one that's gonna help me the most is using all 80 characters. I use as many as I can but that graph speaks volumes.
It does make a difference and it is an easy change to make.
I really enjoyed watching your Ebay tutorial, ...it was refreshingly intelligent, honest, and down to earth, ...'Thank you!'
Really, really kind words. I sincerely appreciate you.
I am a a crossroads with my listings right now so this tutorial most helpful. Thank you!
Absolutely! I hope it helps.
I enjoy your videos. Thank you for all of the great educational content! I am learning a lot from you & going back through your videos from the beginning. As someone who intends on selling on eBay in the near future your information is invaluable. Thank you for being generous with your knowledge!
I truly appreciate the encouraging words.
Great information, detailed and easy to follow 👍 You are probably the favorite teacher of many past students!! 👏👏
Thank you! I absolutely loved teaching. Having taught my kids is still one of the best things in my life.
Great info! Excellent presentation! Thank you so much Scott!
I really appreciate that. Thank you.
That was super helpful for myself as a new seller. Appreciate your time.
Thanks so much! Being helpful is truly what I hope to be.
Love ypur videos . Thanks so much for all the great tips and info
You are so welcome!
Great stuff. Love that you work together! Great name too. Cha ching!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
I think I get more out of trying to help than anyone I might accidentally help
Wow, so very helpful!!! Concise, clear and very detailed information!!! The Fi Sellers unboxed your gifted box to resell and suggested your channel. You inspire kindness!! Very much appreciated!!!💯👏
They are both such wonderful people. I am very blessed to get to surround myself with awesome people.
I haven't sold any $12,000 mystery boxes yet, though. :-)
I really enjoy your channel. I am learning a lot and you offer important information
So nice of you
I love it that you refund shipping. That's excellent mentoring, sir.
I try to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
Again, thank you Scott.
I'm glad you're here
Love your teaching videos!
Thank you so much!
Love that you are so genuine and that you and your wife like to help others. I am the same way
Janet
I absolutely believe that I've never fallen behind by trying to help others get ahead.
Thank you!
This is a great video!! You are such a great teacher! Thank you!
Thank you so very much!
Thanks for your advice and clear suggestions.
Thank you so much!
Great series of videos. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
great videos and info
Thank you!
Great video😊
Thank you 😁
Thank you so much for this great information!
If they use negative feedback like a weapon, I don't do business with them
@@TheChaChingKing thank you Scott for your response😊👍🏼
@@TheChaChingKing thanks again Scott, I’m really enjoying your eBay content!👍🏼
excellent video, thank you
I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Great video. I've been searching videos on how to create accnt on eBay.
The one I have with Step by Step in the title shows the opening of an account from the very beginning. 😀
I really appreciate you watching
Thank you so much for your videos! Great info! Im a single mom trying to teach my daughter how to make extra money. 😊
I hope she finds some of this useful and encouraging.
I appreciate your video! I’m just starting out and will practice your preferred steps to listing😎 thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
I capitalize the first letter of key words I figure it may help if the key word is the first word in their search
Great tip!
Great channel! Ive been a casual seller since 08, and am trying to make it into a side income but sales are slow. I have NOS motorcycle parts, thousands of them...and it takes time to list! Things are done a bit different in Canada but most of your advise still applies. I think the tax's they added to sales last year hurt me a bit. cheers
I appreciate you watching. And, I love Canada. I went to high school in Duluth, MN. I loved canoing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Excellent video content and presentation. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Invaluable advice,
Great video! ty for the tips!
You are so welcome!
Hi I gave up for tonight I had a hard time with the listings it did take me to putting my touring number and I went to look for it on my bank statement it logged me out and I just had such a hard time finding the part to put my bank account to get paid. Also I ended up with 2 accounts after changing my username I’m so sorry just needed to vent but I will not give up. Thankyou so much for all your help glad I’m seeing this video cuAse I had i hard time with this since the read letters would come up and say I needed to check something I think I’m just too tired cause it’s 2am I will continue to look at your videos and learn
It's not always easy. But once you've created the account, the process becomes repetitive. It will get easier and easier with each listing
extremely helpful
you're an awesome guy cha ching! thank you for your valuable info.
Super nice note. I really appreciate you.
Thanks for all the information you shared so many great tips
You are so welcome!

Great video buddy

Thank you so much for this excellent video, which was very valuable to me.
I am now starting to change my keywords from all capitals to just the first letter.
First time listening to you.
I have subscribed now. :)
I really appreciate the comment! It's encouraging to hear that the videos are helpful
Hello! I love and appreciate your videos so much. Thank you! Can I ask you a question? What category would you put vintage books in? Please let me know. Thanks!
Depending on the books, this is usually where I would list them.
Go to: Books, Movies & Music > Books & Magazines > Antiquarian & Collectible
Where do you find those statistics you mentioned I. e. how many sold and at what price?
When you search for an item, it will tell you how many listings there are. Then, on the left hand side of your screen, scroll down until you find the SOLD button. Click that. Then you will see how many have sold.
Thanks Scott! Great video. :)
Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
So nice of you
I use the photo app and pay for pro it’s worth it
I do, too. I love it
Watched your tutorial on listing my first item.
Appreciate your information
Great information and delivery, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for all the detail info!!!
I really appreciate you watching!
And thank you VERY much for watching and the kind comments. It means a lot
@@TheChaChingKing Ah okay. Makes sense. Thanks
I often get Watchers on BUT IT NOW and that makes me think they're worried the price may go up? Do you think a regular buyer actually knows the difference between Auction and Buy It Now? Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
I think that buyers today definitely know the difference. 10 years ago, maybe not so much.
Thank you SO much for the kind words!
A few questions for you:
1) Is it really viable to start up a small reselling business in the current state of the economy? (We would be starting an eBay account from scratch with not much inventory)
2) Is it more beneficial to have more places to sell, (FBMP, eBay, Poshmark, Etsy, etc.) or is that too big of a headache to handle when starting out?
What about very light colors against a white background?
You need at least a little contrast for your item to show up. A white background works for most things. It is good to have an alternate background for items that blend into blend too much to photograph.
Great video. I'm glad Bolo Buddies sent me.
Me too!!!
Do you have a chat community of some sort like Discord? I think it would great for all of Ebay sellers to connect in a chat style way 😅😊
I don't. Ginger Marvin has a discord I'm part of. I think the world of them. Most of my interaction tales place here and on Instagram
Thank you for this, it was very helpful.
I really appreciate this comment! Thank you for taking the time.
Thank you again!! You are awesome. I don’t see a place for “condition notes”??
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Hi, can you guide about eBay store design?
We don't have a specific theme to our store. We list a variety of items just based on what we are able to get.
Thank you for your video. You are very helpful ❤
That's exactly what I want to hear. Thank you!
Wonderful, clear helpful advice. Thank you so much.
Thank you! That is a huge compliment and exactly what I hope the videos can do.
I appreciate your video. Thank you.
I hope it was helpful!
