    This video just gave me the confidence to selling on ebay. the fact that you have a price breakdown and links to supplies is the biggest thing. my biggest fear was operating at a loss or minimal profit because i was not pricing shipping accordingly. this video makes it so clear. thank you!

      Most businesses don't turn much of a profit right at the start. I looked at it at the beginning as relatively cheap education. If I missed a bit on shipping, it wouldn't kill my business. And Melody and I learned quickly and started making money pretty soon. If we can do this, you can too!

    I just started selling on Ebay and shipping is the biggest learning curve involved in this process. I’m still learning but feel I have a better handle on it. I have US postal services envy! Free supplies WOW (I have to scavenge local stores for used boxes or rely on friends to pass on their boxes from on line shipping), Boxes at Canada Post cost $4-$8 dollars each for the box not including the shipping. Most small parcels cost from a minimum of $25 to ship domestically. Some times it is cheaper to ship items to the US than it is locally! EBay selling (and other platforms) is very challenging for Canadian resellers!

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад

      Amen. Every time I see someone using the supplies for something other than shipping USPS Priority, it bothers me. They are going to ruin it for the rest of us.

  • @JamesPlatt88
    @JamesPlatt88 Год назад +4

    I read through the comments and still am not clear on how you decide whether to use the usps boxes or your own box. how do you determine which is the cheaper way to ship? especially beforehand when listing it do you need to list shipping cost to begin with or do they do that automatically? I have a couple hundred items ready to list and this is my last obstacle.

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад +4

      If it's under a pound and I can ship it First Class, I'm always going to use my own boxes/envelopes. The USPS boxes are only for Priority Mail. Priority Mail is always more expensive than First Class. You can't mail anything First Class if it's over 16 ounces.
      First example. Let's say I'm shipping a baseball cap. I ship all of my caps in a box so they don't get crushed. But even after I package it up in a box, it only weighs 13 ounces. So, I would ship that First Class in my box.
      Second example. Let's say I'm shipping a jacket that weighs 1 pound and 3 ounces. That can't go First Class and will have to go Priority Mail. Since I'm using Priority Mail, I would use the post office boxes Priority for that. I would almost always use the USPS Priority boxes for things over a pound if I can.
      Most of the time, just because I've shipped so many packages, I know the packaged weight pretty closely. If I'm not sure, I weigh it when I'm listing.
      Does that help?

      @JamesPlatt88 Год назад +2

    Actually i found trying to setup business policies very confusing. But once I did I have three first class “flat rates” policies for weight ranges, then a flat padded flat rate and calculated priority. I add new ones as needed based on the item. And as I’m listing an item i figure out what it will be packed in and weigh it all to get as accurate on what shipping policy/price I need to come close to breaking even. I made a little here and there, and loose a little here and there but it all balances out. Determine my packaging up front and I leave a sticker on the item reminding me how to ship it has saved me $$.

    Hi brother, I hope it’s OK that I send you a question here, I don’t know where else to turn. You’ve helped me so much so far in so many of your videos. I’ve been selling on eBay for about four weeks, and you are the inspiration that the Lord used to get me going. But now I have a problem. I sold a HP ink cartridge on eBay that I know it was brand new because it was my ink cartridge that I opened up to put in my printer and it was the wrong size. Walmart would not let me return because the box was open. I thought well I should sell it since it’s brand new just the box is open. Well it’s sold, and now the seller is saying that the ink cartridges were empty. And 0:31 wants his money back. I went ahead and authorized a label to have them ship it back but I know that he will just ship me his old cartridges. It’s not so much the money but I don’t want eBay to think that I’m trying to scam people by selling cartridges with no ink. Should I try to let them Know that he is scamming me? or do I just keep my mouth shut and give him a refund and go on?

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад +2

      This is a good question. If he sends you back an old empty cartridge, contact eBay. The bigger issue is making sure you protect your feedback. I'm sorry you're dealing with that. It won't be something you have to do all the time.
      Thank you SO much for the kind words.

    I create my own policy’s and delete almost all the others to minimize the list. Then none of the customs even show up when building the listing. It’s so dumb now. It’s cost me hours of time and now money trying to fix 600 listings to make sure it’s right.

    Second, here is my problem. I am selling my comic book collection. I sold 89 comics to one person. All bag and boarded. The package weighed 19 pounds. • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  10 месяцев назад +1

  • @vynilrob9719

    Since I sell only comics, how much should use Ground Advantage (weight wise and price point wise) and when should I use Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes?

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  9 месяцев назад +1

      I would imagine that they wouldn't weigh more than 8 ounces depending on the comic and how you package it. If I were to put the comic into an envelope, I'd make sure it's supported by cardboard or something. I wouldn't go to Priority myself until it was a pretty valuable comic book...say over $50. But that's truly a decision you'd need to make.

    You are a GREAT teacher! Since Global Ebay shipping is shipped to Kentucky, can we use USPS Priority packaging for an International customer? How does using Flat Rate S&H prices work if the customer is international? Is there another table of prices for that? I just shipped my first sale in many years yesterday. If there are any problems, doesn't Ebay shipping alert you? (I'm asking because I got a text claiming it's from USPS saying the address is inaccurate but the item shows in transit on Ebay so I'm thinking the text is a hacker.)

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад

      The text sounds like a hacker to me, too. When you ship international through ebay, the buyer pays ebay for all of the shipping costs outside of the US. So you can use Ground Advantage or Priority. Ebay moved their international shipping to Illinois recently. EIS now instead of the global shipping program. For me, it's been better.

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  2 года назад +1

      We sell a lot of clothing, so we have a really good idea what it'll cost to ship. The easiest way to see how much the flat rate boxes will cost to ship is to click on them the next time your shipping something. You don't have to purchase them in order to see what they would cost. So, for me, Regional Rate A is usually around $11.25 and it works well for a lot of things. A lot of it is just experience.

      @@terrystexastreasures6809 Strictly by price. I often compare the different options when I'm shipping. If I have a very heavy item that will fit in a flat rate box, I am probably better off using that box. If it is relatively light weight, I may be better off to use a regular Priority box. For me, it just comes down to which one is the least expensive. It varies based on the item being shipped and its destination.

    • @TheChaChingKing

      Before the new shipping options, the buyer had to wait to pay if you didn't put in a defined shipping cost. So, I got into the habit then. Keep in mind, not doing calculated shipping just because "we've always done it this way" is really a poor reason. The other reason is that, as I experiment with calculated shipping, the sales seem slower. I admit I haven't experimented enough to account for my own bias.

    • @TheChaChingKing

      It probably didn't let you because the category your item was listed in didn't qualify. The Standard Envelope service has some limitations that other services don'thave. And, anytime you choose a service you didn't have, make sure you aren't downgrading the shipping. That's an easy way to get an unhappy customer. But, you aren't automatically barred from choosing a different service when you go to ship your item.

      When you buy your label through eBay, you're getting a rate that they've negotiated with the post office. That is similar to commercial rates. I'm learning so much from your videos. I'm wondering if you have a video on exactly how to list and ship authentic sneakers. I'm confused on shipping.
    Do you charge twice for shipping? Because first the item ships to the authenticator, then the authenticator ships to the buyer.
    Also, does the tracking receipt automatically go to ebay from the post office, or does the seller have to scan it to ebay?
    Then there's a time frame. Omg! What if I don't get to the po on time? I work full time. It's recommended to ship same day. I only have time to list and sell one thing at a time, seems like.
    I really need to get started listing, but this is really confusing me.

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад

      I haven't created one specifically for shoes that go through the authentication program. But I can try and answer the questions. You do not charge twice for shipping. Part of that service for the customer is the shipping cost from the authentication center to the buyer. When you ship through eBay, all the tracking numbers are uploaded automatically. If there's a chance you can't ship everyday, just set your shipping time to two or even three days. You're better off to ship less frequently than you are to ship late. As far as the time it takes to go through the whole process, the buyer expects that knowing it has a layover at the authentication center (or they should). Expected delivery times are automatically extended. Further, once it gets to the authentication center safely, when it ships on to the customer, eBay is then responsible for it making it to them.
      I hope that helps a little!
