    Pro tip: don't throw out those random grocery store ads you get in the mail! I use those for packing my packages. It's not as professional looking, but it's definitely cheap.

      Newspaper works for packing papers. The Dollar Tree for (1.25) supplies - labels, envelopes, etc. Go to the stores and get boxes; or go to the garbage cans. People throw out boxes all the time in the recycle bins. Dollar tree for poly mailer = 3 for $1.25.

      That is the perfect feedback! I really do want to be helpful. As far as spending any money, it's the reason I haven't created a paid course. If I can get it produced, I want the information to be free to those that need it most. If people use those Amazon links, I definitely see some cumulative commissions...which is awesome. BUT, I want people to succeed. Going into business spending more than you're bringing in can kill your business before it gets started.

    One more suggestion I would like to make, I used to work at a smaller thrift store and when we got shoes in (especially sneakers) and they were all scuffed up and dirty we would use this cleaner from the Dollar Tree it is called Totally Awesome (and it is named APPROPRIATELY!) we used it for all kinds of stuff that we got in that needed to be cleaned. That is the exact same scale we use also. Works great!
    All your other recommendations are perfect. The label printer is nice, but not necessary.
    Don't miss "recycle day" for boxes! Grainger has great prices on BULK boxes (25 or more). Buy tape and bubble wrap in bulk to save (you may not need to at first)
    Not needed for beginners, but we use a wood "work table" we got at Harbor Freight for $149 on sale. GREAT work surface for packing and has drawers and a shelf underneath to organize all your supplies. When you get up to packing 10+ items a day, having a dedicated work table at a proper height is worth every penny.
    For a photo box we use a recycled cardboard box. I attached a "strip light" to it with cable ties and it has 2 levels of brightness and three "colors" of white light (Soft white, Cool White and Daylight) The strip lamp cost about $15. We use large pieces of colored poster paper for back drops, these are held in place with binder clips. Black, grey and white are the most used colors. Red and "hunter green" are probably the others we use most. You can get the paper at any craft store. It makes a GREAT photo box for small items and total cost was under $20!!!
    Your videos are excellent and very helpful.

      @garyK.45ACP Год назад

      @@TheChaChingKing Thanks. BTW the table is 5 ft. long and about 20" wide and 36" high. Kitchen counter height.
      It has a woodworker's vise built into one end, but we don't use that and left it off during assembly. I built a holder for bubble wrap and/or brown Kraft paper for one end. It holds a roll of bubble wrap up to 350 ft. long. You just pull off what you need and tear it on the perforations, or cut it. If you need heavy Kraft paper, you can just lift out the roll of bubble wrap and drop in a roll of Kraft paper (up to 36" wide). The rolls ride on a wood dowel rod. It has been a GREAT addition to our office.
      We also included a cutting board and utility knife in one of the drawers for modifying boxes for shipping. When we can't find a "perfect" size box, we take a larger one and cut it, score and fold it to be the perfect size. This is all easy to do on a large, proper height, work table.
      My wife also uses the table for jewelry cleaning and repair also. (she sells a lot of vintage jewelry) A stool to sit on and a clamp on, removable, magnifier/vise makes that job easy.

    I’m a newbie to reselling on eBay. I’ve watched every video I can on shipping. Yours was one of the best I watched…but I’m STILL struggling. Calculated vs Flat Rate??!! I use flat rate and mirror what another seller has in their post for a like item. I feel like I’m losing out here. Still so much to learn and I appreciate you sharing what you know!

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  Год назад +1

      With flat rate shipping, you just have to make sure you're close to the overall shipping cost and that the item has enough profit in it to cover any difference and still make a profit. Calculated shipping is kind of the opposite. eBay will overcharge for shipping to make sure the fees and everything are covered. You have to make sure you don't have the item priced so high that the combined cost scares away customers.
      And, it seems confusing BECAUSE IT IS CONFUSING. There isn't something in you that is inherently missing something obvious that everyone else can see, It just gets easier with every package you ship out.

      I LOVED the years that I taught. It's hard to explain just how big a deal it is for me to see that light come on for someone. I didn't leave the classroom for administration because I didn't like teaching. It's just that everywhere I ever went there was always a push to move me up. I won our region's superintendent of the year in 2013 and received so many opportunities to "move up" that it was overwhelming. Melody and I decided that any "promotions" would have completely removed me from actually getting to interact with and teach kids. So, I stayed put and finished my career in a tiny district. I still coached Cross X. I still got to teach the occasional physics class. I still sat down with every graduate and did the FAFSA with them. I never forgot that, as an administrator, the real magic occurred in the classrooms...not the office.
      Teaching has always been something I have loved. I swear, I get far more from it than I could ever give back. It fills me up. RUclips gives me back a little bit of that. The thought of helping someone out there that needs it is far more fuel for me than I can express.
      Sorry for the wall of text. Your comment means a lot to me.

    Hey Scot, another great video. Over 19 years on eBay, I started out printing shipping labels at home on inkjet printer, cutting them out and taping to packages...very time-consuming and really didn't look very professional, but I did it this way for years, now I have two thermal printers, man what a difference, easy and looks very professional, no more cutting and taping. My best one is a Zebra ZP450 because it uses standard 4x6 labels that you can get for FREE at UPS (with an UPS account) must call to order. I picked up this printer for less than $100, I have been using it for years, it prints every time without fail and I have never purchase labels for it...Just FYI...thanks again for your videos they really do help. BTW Costco is a great place to buy tubs/bens when they go on sale.😀

    Thanks for the list! I was shipping almost everything by USPS Priority Mail, but the cost made the price of my smaller items too high. Getting a scale allowed me to ship first class, which meant easier "smalls" sales. I had to get a scale that weighs heavier items, too, though.

    Great tips! When I first started out a few months ago, I saw one of your old videos where you recommended the Rollo printer. I wasn’t eager to shell out $300 and continued using my home ink jet printer. After a while, I got annoyed with printing, cutting, and adhering the labels and I took the plunge and bought a Rollo label printer from Amazon. It was the best decision ever! It prints wirelessly from my phone and can spit out a label in seconds. (And it’s a tax write off!) Thank you for always sharing your expertise!

      Thank you so much! I don't see the actual question. I will tell you these few things that almost always apply. If it's international, let eBay manage it. MOST returns aren't worth fighting. Tell them to send it back for a refund. Don't do a partial refund if it seems fishy at all. Most importantly, don't let someone who's trying to get their money back wreck your mindset. They aren't worth it.
