    • @puddentaine
      @puddentaine 8 месяцев назад

      @@backseat-of-the-audience i keep most of them in tents. i didnt get the expensive tents. i just got the cheap clear plastic ones. but they are set up with lights and fans. i dont have a schedule for watering. i just feel them out. but normally when one needs it they all do. usually every 4 days-ish. most of them are in a diy well draining chunky mix. and in high humidity. most of them are still small. i have a few in just husk, one in Molly's succulent mix, and several in moss. i also have a bunch of alocasia. a few philos...squami, billetiae, atabapoense, pss, florida green and ghost. but 8 also just doen sized a b7nch and gave them all to a friend. monstera, philo, some jungle cacti and idk what else. i dont have much room for a bunch of big plants. and after I found my first hoya i fell in love with them. alocasia were the first ones i liked but its all about the hoyas now. i can keep them under control, most of them font grow too fast, and they make cool flowers sometimes. i find the reward i feel with the slow progress is more powerful than with instant results. ill get a new leaf or new small vine after months of nothing and get really exited. but...with hoyas and alocasia...the f*kn mealies...constant. no matter what...thats harder than keeping track of their water. i know a lot of folks say to water them once per week or even less but ive had far better results with keeping them moist and in a moist environment.

    In my experience, sulawesiana does not like to be very wet. I water it with all my other hoyas, but I only water it a tiny bit! I actually bought a pipette bottle for this one and a few others I have found to not like a lot of water. I have had much more success with sulawesiana this way. I grow it outside in central FL, where it is warm/hot and humid most of the year. Prior to figuring this out, I managed to kill a couple! My first one was in a hanging pot that got rained on almost daily and its roots just melted away, despite my coco chunk/perlite fast draining mix. I wanted to also ask about piestolepsis….I had NO idea it had so many clones with different accession numbers! Can you share whatever knowledge you have on this subject? Are they different in your experience? Is it worth collecting them? How many are there? I could go on 😂

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  7 месяцев назад

      My second one is finally growing and I do find that it does indeed want very little water. The roots it arrived with were goners, and it rooted in almost bone dry coco husk. Now I see a new vine starting and it had very little water since. I probably take it out every 2 weeks from the tent, water it, and put it back with no cover pot or anything and so far it is working. I know of three piestolepis clones; they are different in flower color. I think the foliage is nice, but I am frustrated that I have not bloomed any yet, certainly should have happened, but oh well, we wait... I only have two clones now, the one from this video didn't arrive so well and refused to recover. I have NS11-092 and NS16-002. I don't think it is worth growing all three; I think maybe blooming all three and then deciding the best bloomer/ grower, which is what I intend to do :)

    Everyone ships the cuttings in zip lock without any medium or moss, paper towels etc?

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад

      It depends how long the shipping will be. It also depends on the temperatures. These arrived withing 2 days to me I believe - UPS express, so there is no need. But in most cases, in Europe, you will buy unrooted cuttings, so it doesn't make sense to put them in a potting mix. Sure, you can add some moss to the bag or wrap it with a paper towel, but again, depending on the many factors, wrapping in wet paper towel can do more damage than good. It is actually common to send plants like this - all good orchid nurseries will send their plants dry, or sometimes out of the potting mix, to prevent bacteraial or fungal infections in the box. Of course, orchids mostly have robust roots (compared to Hoyas)
