    Thank you for this video.
    I bought the box AOD box when it came out, and after deciding I wasn't painting hazard stripes, I went for Alpha Legion. But everything I watched, everything I read made them feel very restricted. Finally, I have found this video and feel free to do with them as I please. Maybe I'll even have the basic AOD infanty primed by the end of this weekend :-)

    Something I really appreciate is how in the transition from 1st Ed to 2nd the focus shifted from the Saboteur's sabotage attack & choosing Infiltrate with Mutable tactics leading to a potent alpha (haha) strike that then became inconsequential for the rest of the game to a more well-rounded set of special rules that all stay relevant throughout. I'm very excited about baked-in Rewards of Treachery, I know they aren't the most optimal choice but I'm tempted to grab Contekars so my warlord is a ten-man Terminator squad with twenty wounds & heavy flamers (or Volkites). I'm also intrigued by using Mobius Config. Lots of chances to raid the bitz box and experiment with various Legions. Basically perfect for people like me who can't decide what they want to commit to.

    The Power Dagger is deceptively strong in challenges vs another Sargeant. And at 5 points when you pay for it, it feels cheap enough you can probably squeeze one or two into a list without an issue

      Agree. Was surprised when my Sergeant accepted a challenge against another wielding a scary looking power fist. I thought I was done for but realised I had AP3 with the dagger and killed the fella. Definitely better points economy for me.

    Please note that the Saboteur's False Colours rule ONLY protects him from shooting attacks, even if he hasn't exposed himself he can still be charged and killed.
    So while he's good, don't get overconfident getting him too close to enemy units as they can just throw a chaff unit at him, force him to fight and invalidate False Colours, then shoot him off the board next turn.
    It's because of that, that I'm going to use Exodus instead and have him accompanying my Recon squads.

    • @Hearesy
      @Hearesy  2 года назад +1

      That's an interesting interpretation, I'm not sure that I agree, although on a reread I see your point. The paragraph is a bit of a hash ("as long as he has not declared a shooting attack" and then goes on to say it ends when he charges too), maybe needs an FAQ.
      Still very powerful though, since you will deploy post infiltrators and be able to easily choose a safe spot. Many legions wont be deploying melee-capable troops on the ground on T1, and if they do to react to your Sab, thats probably a win in a lot of situations anyway!

    • @the_victorious_1
      @the_victorious_1 2 года назад +1

      @@Hearesy oh the Saboteur is still very powerful, I was just concerned about someone plonking him on the board overconfidently and getting him overrun by something like a Tactical Squad with bayonets. They probably wouldn't kill him, but it would end the rule when he fights back allowing counterplay next turn.
      They definitely need an FAQ to clarify this, it wouldn't make narrative sense for the charging being possible if shooting isn't, but it doesn't say specifically one thing or the other.

    • @WarbossGazbag
      @WarbossGazbag 2 года назад

      I have to agree with Victorious on this one, the last line of the rule reads "nor does this special rule restrict the enemy from declaring charges targeting a model or unit that has this special rule"
      I also think because it's specifying the centurion without terminator Armor (the datasheet name) you might not be able to put him in terminator Armor?...maybe? XD
      Alpha legion rules are as sneaky as they are!

    • @Hearesy
      @Hearesy  2 года назад

      Yeh i agree it could but read like that, but its written “heres a thing and once it happens you cant do this, nor this” which would usually mean the “nor” is conditional on the first bit, not “always”. But it also doesnt say he cant be charged in the first sentence, so…. Gwwww!

    i feel i would use try to use this to max effect with in my turn, because otherwise i should play another legion, however i`d still keep it time sensible, and as for the distance rule specific, it should be discussed in pregame questions and I'd remind people at the start of the shooting phase and before the declare charges, so no gotchas during the first few times, but then then onus moves to them to ask the question and play a tactical wargame. its trying to strike the balance and may make the difference between handing them a game and trying to win without being WAAC type player

    A Saboteur cannot be a terminator. The rule says "A Legion Centurion" - that would have to say "Legion Centurion, Legion Cataphractii Centurion, or Legion Tartaros Centurion" to allow those to become Saboteurs. Compare the Sons of Horus Dark Emissary wording. But good video anyway.

    It's between these guys and Dark Angels - painting the AL looks like it might be tedious because it's easy to be inconsistent with how the glazes are layered with an airbrush, but if I can maintain that, they'll look great and they seem great fun to play. DA are the easier legion to paint, and I love The Lion model, and they're quite flexible. Tough choice!

    What is this heresy! Rewards of treachary! If im understanding this correctly i think the unit they use should hv some negative like -1 on something so they are like a knock off version of the unit they copy because this to me takes away from the other legions unit and how they were made. This is the first legion that has made me want to unleash a full meta list and hunt them like the fallen 😂 they sound like a great opponent to sharpen ur skills on though as they could take the best unit from each legion every game allowing u to learn how to deal with them somewhat.

    my biggest gripe with the Legion Trait is that it is a (explicitly cumulative) charge DISTANCE modifyer.
    Which means i can literally fail a 1" charge even without difficult terrain !
    if it was the declare distance it would kind of make sense sind you 'think' you need to run longer than you actually do ... but crashing into the physical body of an enemy and still needing 2 more inch or you failed the charge makes no sense to me.
    Also average charges suddenly become really swingy ones (like 5" charge suddenly needing 7" which is a big swing in percentage chance to get in) or super safe charges of 3" suddenly becoming 6 times as failable due to needing a 5 on the dice roll (1 out of 36 possible results fail vs. 6 out of 36 failing with the 5" charge)

      As I read the rule, the Sudden Strike applies whether you use that weapon to attack with or not. So power daggers can be useful, for example in a slugfest between two models with power fists, to make sure that you get the chance to instant death your opponent first. It's definitely nice to have for free on the models that do get them and maybe a good use of five points when getting your army up to a nice round number.
