    One of the horses seemed to have a painful left foot and wasn't able to stand still. Towards the end of the video the horse parks in between the other horses.

    Can we just take a moment and applaud all the other horses for outsmarting their herd mentality here? Especially when he broke rank and pushed into them at the end. This is prob just a youngling who isn’t used used to standing so still for so long yet

    Horse wasn’t behaving badly. His front leg is shaking. He probably was trying his best to handle whatever was wrong with him and couldn’t handle it any longer. Horses try their best to please riders. They don’t have a mean bone in their body. 🙌🏼

    What you don't see behind the scenes in the stables is that these horses are highly looked after. The horses are never always on duty at anyone time as there is always two in each rotation. There is always a vet in the stables on 24hr call out (usually from the royal veterinary corps) The horses also get a 1month "Holiday" every 6 months to roam free in a horse sanctuary. They are also well groomed, cleaned and inspected for hygiene and well being. Some might say they get treated better than the soldiers themselves. When I was in the life guards it was always priority horse first, then your kit then lastly yourself.
    Thought I would mention this to re-assure any doubts you all may have. :)

    The horse doesn't have to be in pain to not put weight on a leg. It's spooking because it's nervous. Horses don't always bear weight on all 4 legs evenly when they are preparing to take flight. They frequently lift the fore or hind leg on the side they intend to turn towards, which he repeatedly does. The changing of the guard doesn't exactly allow you to leave just because your horse is upset by dozens of people standing around. Tradition doesn't yield to internet whining and keyboard trolls.

      hollow misty so you can hear a horse breathing across an open area from a camera that is recording in a crowd full of people. that's impressive. even if you could pick out the horse among the dozens of people that sound could be, that's a draft horse. they breathe loudly by their nature. and if it's scared, they breathe harder and louder as a function of nervousness. lastly, you can't choke a horse by pulling on the reins. if that were true, there'd be millions of dead lesson horses around the world from scared people hauling on their heads to stop them.

    Something was clearly wrong and the horse should have been taken out of the line up, not only for that horse's safety, but for the other horses and rider's , as well. That guy on the side shouldn't have been flicking the crop, and the rider shouldn't have been spurring the horse or pulling on the (overkill) bit like that. And before anyone asks, I've been riding for almost 20 years. I'm not just some tree hugger who thinks that he knows about horses just from watching some videos. I'm speaking from experience. Wondering just how many commentators have even mounted a horse. I agree that perhaps the guy on the side didn't need to flick his crop but IMHO the young horse was not yet comfortable being on the outside (Lions eat horses on the outside you know lol). Calm rider asked him to yield back in line, released pressure on his mouth when he's being good and then finally put the horse in the middle where he was most comfortable.
    It's a LONG time for the horses to stand at attention. The shivers you see is adrenalin, my arab as a young mare used to look like she was having epilepsy when asked to line up, she wanted to go but she had to get over it. Used to crack me up, silly girl and no, she WASN'T hurt, just didn't want to stand.

      I have Arabs too, and they are masters at getting what they want. One mare was willing to slash thigh large puddles at a canter for her feed, but when I rode her toward it she acted like Nessie was waiting for her. I turned her and backed her in - she knew the jig was up!
      Another filly we took to her first show for halter, and at the practice ring and in gate she was super calm. Went in the ring and 'turned it on', won her first champion ribbon that day. Looks like her daughter will be the same way! My trainer shows with captive chains and rarely takes a whip in with him. I've never seen him actually hit a horse with one!
      It's got a lot tiki do with the horses training and personality. Everyone is different!

      @@louisecassidy5991 I like horses too, but let's be realistic here..."brainy"? Most horses are five or six times the weight of most humans, yet their brains weigh half what ours do. They are wonderful animals but they are definitely not our equals intellectually lol

    • @louisecassidy5991
      @louisecassidy5991 5 лет назад

      Melissa Zietz ...I don't just like horses, I've lived them for nearly 60 years, and I have learned to read them, photos, videos, visual or from the saddle. Sure they are brainy, and are you good enough? Horses spoil quickly and if they learn how to unnerve a rider, and start getting their way, they never forget, bad treatment or good. They have 2 quite separate sides to their brain, what they learn on one side they may never learn on the other, or forget. They are what we make of them. A ruined horse may go for correction, but if he returns to the rider who ruined it, it is still a ruined horse for that rider, they just figure they don't have to do it because the signals and rewards are wrong or hurting. The reward for standing is "release" all pressure, and that bloke didn't.
      Example. I was out alone on a 13.1 h pony I'd bred, golf course over the fence and a major match on, some top guy setting up a shot. Lots of spectators. Someone signalled me to halt. Don't distract this player with a bloody horse! He's in the "zone", alpha state. We halted, reins loose. We waited. Mare did not query why. She never moved a muscle, watching, until the bloke made the hit. She'd somehow assimilated the gravity of the situation. Its not me and her, its us. A combination with one mind. Horses are psychic, they can read your intentions, and they react very badly to pain. They feel our nerves, and if we are nervous they lose trust, which must be mutual. Not usually pro-active, although this particular mare seemed to think outside the box, she was extraordinary. Horses get moved on, from owner to owner, and most of them never develop the trust, understanding, faith, so many end up wrecks unless they are lucky enough to find the right rider.
      One needs to be sensitive, light with seat and hands, balanced. I've had 3 or 4 horses I'd call "one man" horses, not that they wouldn't carry a stranger, but they wouldn't do it nicely, fretting for me, for what they were accustomed to. They certainly don't lack brains, they are in fact very like us, but have no way to express themselves other than revolt. That bloke was lucky the horse had no dirt, because he should have just pelted him off. He was trembling with fear.

  • @gracegardner6865
    @gracegardner6865 6 лет назад +6

    At the beginning of the video you can see the horse trying to interact with the neighboring horse, but as soon as the rider began jerking on that shank bit is when the trouble started happening. The horse was just trying to find release from the pain of the bit. Because of how tight the reins are held, there is no such release. I don't get why people don't listen to their horses. In most of the videos of these royal mounted guards, the horses' pain and aggravation is clearly seen with swishing tails, tossing heads, and antsy feet. Those poor horses probably can't even breathe from having their heads tucked in so far. It's sad how so many people can't (or won't) see the pain they are causing their horse.

I'm surprised horse wasn't relocated into the middle of the line-up sooner. Rider does a really good job using leg aids, considering s/hes holding double reins in one hand, and kudos to rein release immediately when horse stands to encourage it to settle. Hope horse wasn't fresh out of the stable. I'm guessing the Queens horses are body checked before riding to reduce possibility of ''misbehaviour' caused by pain. The horse shifted positions, and because the guy didn't have a very quiet leg, he jabbed it with his spurs, escalating the matter... the guy needs to lay off his mouth. all the other horses are on a loose rein and standing well, and this horse was as well until the rider started to mess with him. He just was stressing the horse out making and making it worse with tight reins and spuring him. The horse was looking for the release of riens and never go it. Correct him a bit then let it be, he stood when he wasnt getting messed with,.

    Too much pressure on the mouth and rider had an incorrect position but when he pulled he added more pressure and hurt the horses mouth. Horses aren't bad. The rider was unaware and you could see him turn his spurs in causing the horse to move when he was pulled. With a bit like that you have to be so careful because it hurts so much and the horse will be in a lot of pain and can't escape it. He will also either have flies on him or an injury because he had a twitching leg and looks uncomfortable.

    Not sure if this was noticed or not. The horse is a whole stallion. They had him next to a mare instead of a gelding. The mare tilted her tail, the way they do when in heat. While most people focused on his left shoulder, I was watching how he was reacting as a whole. The horse was doing very well as he kept his head, and he wasn't reacting as much as he could have with the inexperienced rider on him. The kid wasn't a very "quiet" rider, so if a more experienced rider was on the horse, he would have been a lot more collected than he was.

He is making the horse submit as well as he knows, no other way there and then. Men and animals have to be able to bear SOME discomfort and move on, toughen up and climb a rung.

      No one said for him to say "fuck" anything . His horse is screaming at him and he is not listening and I am certain this is not the first time this horse has had this discussion with his rider . Learning before placing yourself in the view of your peers and higher ranking officers is the proper practice in horsemanship. Any jackass can get all spiffy and shiny and plop their arse in a saddle but this was not horsemanship in any manner except for survival mode for the " rider " . They spend more time polishing their costumes than they do learning horse language and there is a problem .

    • @KariKidd
      @KariKidd 9 лет назад +10

      Arthur Ghekiere I have no hate for the "guard " I do however have any issue with his lack of skill on this horse. Horses are animals that respond to pressure and release and all that is being given to this horse is pressure . Pressure in his mouth , pressure on his girth from the riders legs and spurs ( remind yourself that a horse can feel a tiny fly land on its skin ) so that constant leg pressure and bump bump from the spurs is not giving the horse release that it needs to realize that its rider wants it to stand and relax . This horse continues to shuffle and move in an attempt to try to get the release it needs . This rider is sending five different messages at one time and so the horses actions are totally predictable . " Pressure in my mouth , I should back up . Pressure on my sides , I should step right or maybe left . Ok , those aren't the things he wants so maybe if I get closer to my herd mates maybe they can offer some insight and comfort . NOPE not that one either. Why is that human stalking me from the ground should I be paying attention to his cues ? There is too much going on who do I listen too? So instinct kicks in and the horse goes to the other horses for comfort and still receives bumps , nudges and pulling on his mouth. This horse is not being naughty or defiant if that were the case he would have already attempted to remove the rider from his back in someway (which he didn't) Poor thing is just under too much pressure from two humans who are clueless. It's always the humans fault if the horse isn't set up to succeed then it will be set up to fail . Go back and watch the body language of the horse , rider and the man with the crop all the answers are there in bright neon lights.

    the problem is the horse has sensed something behind him that is bothering him. a horse will not put their rump to anything suspect, that's why he keeps trying to turn. if you notice the horse does look back, when the horse is facing the other direction, look at his ears, he spies out again whatever it is that is bothering him. ... normal behavior when a horse is fearful or suspect of something to it's rear, ... flight or fight syndrome. the front left leg, that's an anticipation movement. ... really is asking to face the concern as opposed to have it's rump to it. ...

      Are you a 10 year old that has no idea about horses? Horses stand up literally 23 hours a day. A 600kg horse can comfortably hold a 70kg human. Horses are pack animals, they are more comfortable being in close proximity to other horses, so you claiming it doesn't like having its personal space invaded is the biggest load of bs.

      That might also be apart of the problem, but not fully. One part of the problem is that the horse is nervous. It clearly shows it; the high head, moving constantly, and you can just tell by its body language. But the other part is the rider, he's relying on pressure to keep the horse still which really isn't good. If you look, every move the horse makes the rider is putting on more pressure which really isn't helping for the horse. I guess the rider was trying to make the horse give in to pressure or something like that.

The bloke sits too heavy, no weight on his feet, he is a bit unbalanced, and heavy handed on that curb bit. The horse is a very sensitive one, and far too good for this rider. I do happen to know the riders are trained from scratch, grown men taught to ride the way the cavalry want them to ride, no faults come with them, but they are not born horsemen. Given this lovely sensitive horse, who is trying to do his best, I could make magic with him, he just doesn't like his rider.
