Horses have individual personalities and would not do this if they didn't enjoy it. Many years ago we used to send Police horses to football matches (such was the level of violence and disorder. One match outside the ground a "man" was shouting abuse at a rider, who ignored him, but the horse got fed up and slowly side stepped pinning the man against a wall. He didn't hurt him but boy did he scream, and he didn't let him go until he wanted to regardless of the riders efforts. It was a treat to watch and I bet that's one big mouthed yob who learned some respect for horses.

I went to Twickenham once, and on the way out of the stadium, walking back to the train station, there were lots of police horses. I stopped to talk to a policeman riding a huge grey horse. I asked him what the horse’s name was, he told me he was called Damian because he was evil and bit everyone that went near him. But, he didn’t bite me, he actually nuzzled me. I've watched many videos of the Household Cavalry but this is the first time I've seen the Musical Ride. What an amazing performance, what skill! I've said it before, but it bears repeating that the British military is unparalleled and unsurpassed at pageantry and pomp. This was beyond marvelous! Bravo!
Only a fool would turn a blind eye to the process of having to break an animal from doing what is normal to his nature in order to entertain a bunch of idiots that ignore their stress and anguish in having to act in a circus that England forces upon them.
Lots of people love to say how these horses are enslaved, abused, etc when in fact these magnificent horses have their own personality and are free to let it show. They are never 'broken' but slowly coaxed into wanting to be ridden. There is a connection between rider and mount, they bond and as you saw, they even play together. At anytime when a rider comes off his horse, it doesn't run away...he usually stands and waits patiently. They are well fed, well exercised in Parklands like Wormwood Scrubs, and vacation in the summer at Holkhom Beach. When they get older they are retired to a Household Cavalry retirement sanctuary.
You can’t help but wonder what people who make observations such as you shared have those ideas based on -WHAT? Supposition? Just look at these fabulous horses-do they look ill fed? Do they look as though they are struggling in ANY way? Horsewoman that she is how could ANYONE believe HM would countenance ANY negative treatment such as you have shared is some people’s opinion? Foolishness in my opinion, THANK YOU for your excellent description of the truth of the matter!
@Martina Obst If you think it is abuse, do you honestly think a horse would stand still for hours and fall asleep if it was abused. One trooper said that they do fall asleep and if startled awake they will fall over. I get the distinct impression that you wouldn't know animal abuse if you tripped over it. Taking all the horses to the beach and letting them run in the surf, taking them for 'watering order' which is an early ride through London streets to Wormwood Scrubs and have a nice canter around the grass there, a coffee, water, then back to barracks by 8am. Horses are washed, shod, fed, mucked out, all before the troopers take care of themselves. PETA has more animal abuse in it's ranks due to only having KILL SHELTERS and stealing domestic animals from private property and putting them down.
I was taught to ride by a retired Lifeguard and well taught too. We did all sorts of pommel horse work jumping on and off and standing up while riding round the managé. I’m 70 now and it still makes me smile to think of it.
@@autumn8034 It has come to be used that way. The Lifeguards have been a Regiment since 1660, long before people were employed to rescue swimmers. They are Guards, the senior Guards Regiment. I was so pleased to find this video recommended to me. I was lucky enough to see this performed at the Wirral show many years ago 30yrs plus and still remember it with great pleasure. I hear you. Martial music and displays were so special. My Father was former Royal Navy. He served during the war under Her Father. Le calme des chevaux est impressionnant ! Les 4 , montés par les cavaliers sans casque, m'ont époustouflés ! et le final avec les drapeaux est magnifique !
This was amazing! The training, the endurance, the precision, that reverse pirouette by the leader’s horse near the end… but most amazing of all, not a single horse pooped the whole time!
Commenting on whether a horse pooped or not during the musical ride is immature and silly. They probably carefully timed the horses; meals so they wouldn't have to poop at this time -- but with all the hard work of rehearsing this ride and training the horses and riders, don't you think you're a little silly for making the poop comment?
@@cathynewyork7918 I’m half being silly, half being serious. I’ve spent a decent amount of time around horses and I actually am impressed that not one of them pooped.

@@maggielarson5472 I actually hate seeing horses with iron bits in their mouths and metal weights nailed to their hooves. But if that must be the case, it's a small consolation to see it happening with people who really understand and care for these stunning animals.
@@mehitabel1290 The 'iron' bits (often aluminum these days) are loose and do not chafe in the slightest. They sit comfortably in a natural gap behind the teeth The horseshoes are not 'weights', but protect the hooves from wearing down too fast on hard surfaces. American here… this just gives me chills watching this. How handsome the riders are and how majestic your horses are. Now, I understand why it is called “Great” Britain. Just simply outstanding

Wow Absolutely amazing I am extremely impressed and how beautiful and magnificent these horse and Riders are with extreme precision and yes the horses look like they're thoroughly enjoying themselves
I have never seen a show like this from the Royal Horsemen. It was brilliant The training that is needed to make this happen must take forever. Fun Fact the horse drum core only use Clydesdale. The kettle drums are very heavy so they need a big horse to carry them.
3 drum horses have come from the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw. CELT was the youngest shire to participate in Trooping The Colour and it was understood he could understand commands in both Welsh and English.
Only a fool would turn a blind eye to the process of having to break an animal from doing what is normal to his nature in order to entertain a bunch of idiots that ignore their stress and anguish in having to act in a circus that England forces upon them.
One of the things that impresses me is that all these rather stolidly built, but very handsome, horses are cantering around in circles for an extended time carrying over 18stone on their backs. And of course all these are regular army personnel, fighting soldiers, doing a one year course!
I applaud the Queen for allowing her horses to have a natural head carriage where the poll is the highest point and not rolled back to the third vertabrea. Well done! Bravo.
Love watching these. History, ceremony, dignity with horse and rider. Wish we had these in the states (U.S) but just have ugly, stupid rodeos or horse shows where animals are abused. Thank you Household Cavalry, thank you.
Ugly? Stupid rodeos? That comment shows how uneducated you are. Those "stupid, ugly " rodeo horses are top notch athletes and and more taken care of and pampered. They have best medical care, feed, and accommodations. Have ever been to a rodeo/horse show? Comments like this just show how stupid ppl really are.have you ever even seen touched or ridden a horse? Pity if you didn't. Perhaps your one of the woke who jumps on band wagons you now nothing about..
For some reason I absolutely adore the heavy horses that carry the drums and drummer. Their long hair hoofs are so cute! Here they have only one, but in other clips of the Household Cav they have two, perhaps even more.
Oh my gosh,😮. How beautiful. I fell in love with England as a little girl watching Robin Hood and Maid Marion, Ivan Hoe, and others. I’ve gone across the pond to visit three times and named my twins Richard and Rhys. At 71 I don’t think I will be able to go back, but this was wonderful. 🥰
As an American and a horse rider I wasn’t sure what the laying down was about but I found a wonderful article that explained it to me and this particular article focused on a horse named George. Very interesting and beautiful horses and talented riders. FYI to others that may not know the article said- Lying down isn’t a circus trick, it’s a tactical strategy dating from the time when soldiers would lie their horses down on the battlefield, hidden by long grass, so they could leap into the saddle and preserve the element of surprise.

I did not see anything I would call un-natural, or harmful to horse or rider. If you want harmful and un-natural look up ‘Big Lick”. This is the most disgusting abuse I’ve ever seen. This show of the Queen’s horses was brilliant. 🇺🇸💞🇬🇧
I thought the same!
The horses act like they are really enjoying it. No tight reins, no one constantly pulling on the reins. Loose reins. Superb.
Magnificent horsemanship, and beautiful horses. Thanks for sharing.
Goosebumps! I'd have been in tears if I was there live!
Beautiful to watch! Stunning Horsemanship. Truly a matchless gift to Her Majesty! This is Sept 2022. We miss you already, your Majesty! You are forever in our hearts.😢
This was 8 years ago !!!!
Could not agree more with your words. Thank you. JR.
Miss u your majesty
How wonderful Our Queen was able to watch this magnificent performance! I appreciate the hard work that it took to practice, all of these intricate manouvers; and am still crying after the stirring ending! 🍁
WOW! What incredible and well trained horses. This type of training comes only from a healthy and well balanced horse. What fortunate riders.
Amazing to watch, love it, I love the connection rider and horse have its beautiful
I hope that Charles doesn’t change the pomp and circumstance. It beautiful and what makes England special. The majesty.
so content WE GOT AWAY FROM THIS INSANITY.
Beautiful animals, beautifully trained, and the soldiers, such wonderful horsemen. Te one closest to the camera did a beautiful remount from the ground. I bet they get a LOT of carrots and sugar cubes, these fabulous animals.
I think they get peppermints. Lucky horses
@@ruthfarlow2892 Did you notice how often they are patted and stroked?
What a wonderful show! The horses are beautiful and so well trained. Men and animals a well oiled team.
Omg I never saw anything like that before are lads our great and the horse you can see why our queen loved them so much well done our lads great
Coming late to this.. But wow! love the respect of the soldiers for their horses!
They know their horse are their success and they have great respect for them
most people who ride or own horses do. You better show respect that is a lot
of power in those horse's. I wish I could have been there to see this what a
memory .
They don't distress the horses in the least, because the hooves are of the same material as your fingernails, and so have no nerves.
@@HannibalFan52 Army Farriers are always on hand too, to take care of the horses. There are also Army vets, for the same reason.
That was fantastic love every second. , I love Great Britain, and God save the Queen.
Absolutely fabulous! The performance gave me the chills. I love your traditions❣️
American here… this just gives me chills watching this. How handsome the riders are and how majestic your horses are. Now, I understand why it is called “Great” Britain. Just simply outstanding
This was amazing to see. These riders and horses are so connected to each other , amazing to see. How many times must they have rehearsed this ?? Uncountable times !! And they are all so calm and collected !! Unbeatable!!!!
These horses are the Rocketts of the equine community. Good job everyone.
Beautiful…. Horses and riders at their very best!
Wow Absolutely amazing I am extremely impressed and how beautiful and magnificent these horse and Riders are with extreme precision and yes the horses look like they're thoroughly enjoying themselves
Wonderful performance. Excellent riders, horses well trained and finest groomed, standing calm, in absolutly trust and obedience ! Wonderful!❤
Battles must have been beyond scary in the past.
Thank you for your video
They certainly trust their riders beautiful horses 🐴🇬🇧🌸
Tell you secret, abused horses tend to not trust their riders.
I have never seen a show like this from the Royal Horsemen. It was brilliant The training that is needed to make this happen must take forever. Fun Fact the horse drum core only use Clydesdale. The kettle drums are very heavy so they need a big horse to carry them.
Actually the Drum Horses are Welsh Shire horses, very similar to Clydesdales
I’m crying out loud!!! Amazing! I know the Queen loves this!!
@@TheKira699 Shires aren't Welsh.
3 drum horses have come from the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw. CELT was the youngest shire to participate in Trooping The Colour and it was understood he could understand commands in both Welsh and English.
@@yorkshiregal Thank you. I thought someone was implying they had Welsh pony blood.
Nice the horses had their head on the soldiers lap! Also good the chaps standing up on the horses. [From an Aussie.] All of it is interesting.
As a professional rider of many years. An avid Horsewoman who well knows what went into that performance. I say -
BRAVO! WELL DONE.
Awesome , love watching the Queen' horses and her brave soldiers .
Thank you for posting this beautiful example of fine training and history.
There’s a spiritual connection with your horse when he or she bonds with you! Love the Last of the Mohicans music!
Only a fool would turn a blind eye to the process of having to break an animal from doing what is normal to his nature in order to entertain a bunch of idiots that ignore their stress and anguish in having to act in a circus that England forces upon them.
Do you mean "LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY" Music ?
Truly amazing brought tears to my eyes 🇬🇧
Me too and I’m not British.
This was fantastic! Magnificent team of riders & horses.
One of the things that impresses me is that all these rather stolidly built, but very handsome, horses are cantering around in circles for an extended time carrying over 18stone on their backs. And of course all these are regular army personnel, fighting soldiers, doing a one year course!
Nicely done the musical ride is beautiful if u like the house hold calvary you will surely enjoy the rcmp muscial ride
Superbe! Quelle entente parfaite entre cavalier et cheval! Quel travail en amont ! Du très grand art. Bravo aux animaux et aux hommes.
Amazing show, never knew they did shows like this
I applaud the Queen for allowing her horses to have a natural head carriage where the poll is the highest point and not rolled back to the third vertabrea. Well done! Bravo.
I definitely do agree with you. The horses are much more comfortable that way. I am curious. Do you know how tall those horses would be? Maybe 16h?
Donna Armstrong my horse used to be in the household cavalry and shes 17.3hh, they’re usually from 16hh-17.3hh ish i believe
Must be remembered that the Queen is a fine horsewoman herself.
@@donnaarmstrong9029 Horses must be 16.2 or taller
@@TheFadedFate when my daughter was showing up here in Canada horses had to be 14.2 or more.
Rodeo horses are highly trained and valuable ... including the bucking horses
Your an idiot who doesn’t get out much
@@kayeweller8854 The Humane Society has found abuse with horses at rodeos.
What a fabulous performance.
For some reason I absolutely adore the heavy horses that carry the drums and drummer. Their long hair hoofs are so cute! Here they have only one, but in other clips of the Household Cav they have two, perhaps even more.
I love uniforms and horses .. Amazing
Beautiful horses and beautifully trained.
I love this so much, everything about it makes my heart sing ❤
Oh my gosh,😮. How beautiful. I fell in love with England as a little girl watching Robin Hood and Maid Marion, Ivan Hoe, and others. I’ve gone across the pond to visit three times and named my twins Richard and Rhys. At 71 I don’t think I will be able to go back, but this was wonderful. 🥰
Does anyone seriously think that the Queen would have allowed her horses to be abused in any way? The Queen dearly loved horses.
Beautiful horses!
Wow you know they are well care for.
They love they job .
To the horses keep the good work 💪
Stunning!!
Horses, Guards (and ALL the training involved).
Well done, our Country in providing such spectacle!!

Viewer from the USA and just wanted to say how amazing this is.
I wish I could be there in person.
Me too!
What a stunning show! wow❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸totally amazing😄😀😁🥹😘
They are the most pampered and cared for horses you could find.
Loved every second of this, especially the flags at the end - fantastic!
Amazing makes you proud to be British
As an American and a horse rider I wasn’t sure what the laying down was about but I found a wonderful article that explained it to me and this particular article focused on a horse named George. Very interesting and beautiful horses and talented riders.
FYI to others that may not know the article said-
Lying down isn’t a circus trick, it’s a tactical strategy dating from the time when soldiers would lie their horses down on the battlefield, hidden by long grass, so they could leap into the saddle and preserve the element of surprise.
Lovely, what pride.. thank you for posting
The black horse with the white Star lying down on the left 5.37 I'm sure its ormound the horse guards.
Beautiful horses I'm very proud of everyone.thank you for your service 👏👏👏
Spectacular! What a show! Such skill and bravery, and such panache 🐎❤🐎❤🐎❤

These are so well loved, and groomed, they are slick as satin….the riders are wonderful
Not easy riding a horse…twice I rode and twice the through me…..my grand daughter took riding lessons
Puttin' on the ritz, indeed!!!
What a beautiful display! Such wonderful cocordination bbetween riders and horses! I bet theur Majesties really enjoyed it, too!
