Good question. There are a few ways: - Just make it better. for example, have the best accel combos get to max speed in 0.1 seconds. - Change the item distribution so that speed items (like mushrooms) show up less often. More attacks and less speed items = more reliance on acceleration. I'd hate this tho obviously 😅 - have sections of tracks where you need to stop or slow down to drive it properly. regarding the idea of the next mario kart game having more diverse stats, there's one build i like to use in mk8dx that feels super unique compared to just about any other combo i've tried: Tanooki Mario Gold Kart Slick/Slim/Leaf/Rollers Peach Parasol the idea is that it maximises miniturbo while minimising traction. there are very few parts that have high miniturbo and low traction, and i've listed them all here (not including reskins, of course). it's just super fun to take corners with this thing, and tracks like Mario Circuit 3 and Neo Bowser City become an absolute joy to play. i think my favourite wheels to use with it are the leaf tyres, but it really just depends on how much miniturbo you want to give up for -traction.

I think the stats of that are really similar to waluigi wiggler, just with 1 more speed iirc. Personally I prefer a bit more mini turbo but it's a great combo! Insane invincibility stat as well
I definitly agree with what you said about stat variety, though they would need to make all the stats more equivalent for it to work. I would also like if different stats encouraged different strategies. For exemple I wished high-speed high-weight stat would encourage you to bump more into people to basically knock them off the track, currently weight is only a defensive stat but it's still bad to run into people with high weight. It would also be cool if they made a set of kart without particularly good stats but with one gimmick, like one that allow you to get more of some item, a very bad kart but that almost doesn't get slowed down by off-road, a kart that has special flying/underwater properties ...
I love the progression from showing off the acceleration to fruntrunning with a little acceleration use to taking back the VR crown from some random Japanese player. Perfect.
Hey shortcat, I realise I'm one voice in a sea of many, but I wanna say that I always love your videos. Seeing that little notification of your uploads always brings a little bit of joy into my day and for that I'm super appreciative!
It would be cool if in a future Mario Kart game, they had a similar system to MultiVersus where you could equip different loadouts to your kart, to boost stats etc. Im not a MK expert so I have no idea how that would balance out, or if it would make the game too complex, but hearing you talking about more fleshed-out stats made me think about it.
i have 2 ideas: -do a blue youself, where you bring a blue shell to 1st and hit yourself. it is required to hit directly you, not from the range -do a mario kart randomicer, it you will get a random character, car, wheels and glider. when you dont get 1st, that character dies, when you get first, you can receive a character. when you get a dead character as character, the video is over
You just made me think of something. Is it possible to throw a blue shell while NOT in first place, then get back up to first place and get hit by that same blue shell?
@@hfido_ pff maybe he first needs to complete the normal blue yourself 😂😂 im scared what kind of challenge shortcat will do in 2 years. Can i win by going backwards? :o 😂
another interesting stat that I think would be interesting to see brought back is the item luck stat from mario kart DS, this was a very controversial stat but i think it would be cool, like lets say you have high speed high acceleration/mini turbo, handling but your item luck would be absolute garbage, or maybe your item luck stat could influence what items you are even able to get at a given position like maybe if you have a high item luck stat you may get mushrooms in first place or less of a chance to get coins
It would be cool to see a video/videos comparing the smallest hit box vs the largest hit box. Largest hit box would technically be the highest "get hit" stat no?
Yes it would, but with a caveat. If I was playing the largest combo, it would have a high speed stat and I'd bag more, therefore getting hit less. And the small combo would try to frontrun and sometimes be too slow, therefore ending up in a middle spot where the attack items are. The worst combo (Lemmy steel driver and metal tires) has no chance frontrunning and no chance bagging, so I always find myself in the middle of the pack. Maybe that's why it has the get hit stat 😅
"Get Hit is the single most important stat as it determines the rate at which you get hit from a wayward turtle shell or an ill-placed banana peel." Boom
Something I think a lot of people forget is that play style and skill level are major factors in which stat is the most important. Mine mean that, for me, traction is the most important stat. There is no definitive tier list that applies to everyone. And getting up in arms about something like this is silly (although, it's better to argue over silly things, in my opinion, to strangers on the internet)
I think the issue is that acceleration is pretty much always tied to mini turbo. I would really like it if they changed a combo to have high speed and MT, but no acceleration and handling, I'd like to see how it fares both in 150 and 200
My personal favourite is keeping all the stats roughly even. I played DK on pipeframe before the dlc, but I don’t know right now. In 200cc it’s just enough to make the corners, so it’s mainly a fun thing. I’d definitely like to see how something like this stacks up though
My main combo has high acceleration and that is one reason I really like it. There jave been times where I would have lost the race because of getting hit by an iten but because i had the acceleration I was able to get the first. Also I am able to quickly start drifts or do tricks after getting hit which I really like. I feel like acceleration is helpful but isnt necessary
It's a very feelable stat, like mini turbo. Speed isn't so apparent, so you don't really sacrifice any fun by choosing low speed. I really like accel and mini turbo because of that!
15:05 this is so true, when i first looked into the hidden stats this was ny first thought. Everything is so locked in, despite all the "customization" you can't really customize at all
Even basic logic will tell you that acceleration cannot be the best stat. Acceleration only does something while you're accelerating. If you are at your minimum or maximum speed, or if you're decelerating, the stat does nothing. Considering that the vast majority of a race will be spent at your top speed, acceleration can never be more important than speed.
Funny how acceleration is kind of an unsung hero stat in that regard. The point of high acceleration is to spend as little of the race accelerating as possible.
Love your content! i was wondering if you could do a video about brake drifting, im super struggling with it and by watching your videos I see you doing it really well. Thanks for the great content
I talked a bit about it in the 200cc section of my beginner guide. Tap B instead of holding it, unless you need a quick and big decrease in speed. Besides that, I think just practicing it will do more than any guide since it's really just a matter of "how much do you want to slow down?" And tap B accordingly
Thanks for giving some love my girl! Toadette + Pipe Frame/Rollers + Peach Umbrella is my jam lol. Driving with that combo feels like balls to the walls on a razor's edge 😅
Hi! Yet another awesome video! I haven't finished it yet, but I'm already sure! Are you ever gonna do another "Shortcat Vs." format type video? As you said, you never practiced Vancouver Velocity, you could make a video on that!
I forgot about that honestly, I definitely could have done Vancouver but I already practiced it now. I still have tracks I am bad at like piranha plant slide and also I might do more for wave 6. I'll keep it in mind!
Nice videos! Been learning quite a bit from them. To your point about stat diversity, they could also play around with certain stats affecting item interactions. For example, heavier weight = larger items; better handling = longer item duration; more traction = shorter 'stunned' animations. (Or something along these lines.)
The pnut(brain) part of the video got me wondering, how long do you have in the game? I know it's easily checked and given your skill level I would assume you probably have a lot
In Mario Kart Wii, Spear had decent acceleration and the best speed. If a track had no turns, spear would be great, and acceleration is important because on straight aways you have to wheelie a few times. If you dropped your wheelie (didn’t chain it because that’s like a 2 frame window) then Spear goes a LOT faster than Flame Runner
Bowser, Dry Bowser, Heavy Mii, Morton, or Wario as the driver (10 Speed, 0 Acceleration) or Donkey Kong, Roy, Waluigi, or Wiggler as the driver (9 Speed, 1 Acceleration) the "pre-DLC meta" stat class (which includes Wiggler, though he wasn't added until Wave 5 and is smaller than DK/Roy/Waluigi) must be used with a tire and glider combination of 2 Speed and 6 Acceleration City Tripper, Landship, Pipe Frame, Streetle, or Varmint as the vehicle body (2 Speed, 6 Acceleration) any vehicle body provided here will work as long as the other parts of the combo add up to 11 Speed and 7 Acceleration either variation of the Roller tires (0 Speed, 6 Acceleration) or Button or Leaf tires (1 Speed, 5 Acceleration) the Roller variants must be used with a driver and glider combination of 11 Speed and 1 Acceleration any glider (some have 1 Speed and 1 Acceleration while others have 0 Speed and 2 Acceleration) a glider with 0 Speed and 2 Acceleration must be used with a driver and tire combination of 11 Speed and 5 Acceleration Everything I've listed here can be mixed and matched for 13 Speed and 13 Acceleration, as long as the accompanying directions are followed properly. Hope this helps.
You can also try out the other carts with the same stats. Cat Cruiser has the same stats and Pipeframe, Landship, Streetle, City Tripper, and Varmint have the same Speed and Miniturbo stats. Yoshi Bike and Comet also have basically the same stats but are inside drifts.
If you go kamek + inkstriker, you get nearly identical stats but with a smaller hitbox. Honestly I hadn't even thought of that when I picked king boo. Kamek has the same or similar stats to Mario, Luigi, Iggy, Ludwig, and medium Mii.
Their argument about acceleration is like saying in the old Mario Kart Wii “Weight” was the most important stat because every good build had a lot of weight. But no, it was the speed. Same with this, mini-turbo is the most important stat, the acceleration just comes with it. It’s still important but mini-turbo still stands on top.
Hey Shortcat, as always I appreciate your video! But, I don't think it's very appropriate to call out and rant on a random commenter who isn't very tactful or rhetorical with their arguments. I can understand quoting a comment or two, looking up the quote they pulled, then criticizing that published article; but, reading off a rather annoying comment thread to bash them in front of thousands of viewers is not very entertaining, informative, professional, mature, or nice. Respectfully, I ask that you please keep from doing this in the future. Referencing and even arguing against comments is still great, just as long as you keep it positive. Looking forward to your next video!
Thank you for your input. I didn't think that far when I chose to do it, and I just thought it would be funny. On one hand I see your point, but on the other hand these comments are public, and it's always up to the commenter when to stop commenting, delete their comment without a trace, or switch to acting more civil. I have shown comments frequently in videos and in shorts. Plus this person was VERY confident that they were correct. I would never go to this extent if someone was wrong but still civil and/or open minded or showed uncertainty. Anyway you make some good points and I'll think about it more before showing comments in the future!
the commenter writes like a 13 year old who is speedrunning a paper that's due the next morning for 8th grade english... if this guy really is old enough to have been playing since the SNES, that's truly unfortunate.
One thing to consider is what the "meta" is depends on your skill level and the people you are playing against. Handling is a good example... the worse you are, the better it is for you personally; the better you are and the more you know all the tracks the less you need it. So I could see if a player is making a lot of mistakes or is not using items defensively then acceleration becomes more valuable for them. Mini turbo also has more value if you know how to drift properly... being able to maximize this gives a great deal of value. What these players need to understand is that if you improve on these things it changes your stat priority.
Honestly I think when most people say acceleration is the best stat they're just lumping mini turbo in with as the same stat. Even people who are aware that they are technically different. If we didn't know there was a mini turbo stat in the code we would all just say high acceleration gives better mini turbos anyways. In fact I think that's what Nintendo was going for.
something i found funny about that commenter is that everything he said about why acceleration is so useful, like being able to recover quickly from stray items or mistakes, is genuinely very important... but you literally get all of that from mini turbo and speed lol. if you mess up and fall behind you can hit a boost pad or get one of the million item boxes for a boost item, which works with speed not acceleration, and you can speed up faster by drifting with high mini turbo than you can by driving straight with high acceleration. the ability to accelerate quickly is arguably the most important thing it just happens that in 8 deluxe you do most of your accelerating with mini turbos, boost pads and items not with the stat
I true full reaction at 25:22 - "you join them... you where suppose to defeat them but you join them >:"v " *deletes shortcat from my custom mii's* Nice vid btw 👍
Talked about in the 13 or 14 minute section. The R.O.B. Kart is a huge example of this, and is one of the best Karts in the game besides Dry Bomber and Egg-1, the Mini Turbo Boost I think is 3rd best in the game but the Speed Stat is much better than those other two Karts, I too wish it was like what you were explaining, but still dependent on the weight class and character, but giving some heavier weight classes better Mini Turbos with some vehicles, and same with light weights and mid weights, to further increase the diversity of what is being used in the next Mario Kart game and it's meta.

unrelated but kinda funny fact: this is the first Mario Kart 8 video I've watched that featured the morbius strip track in a worldwide race, I don't play the game myself but I guess some tracks simply never get picked
In your opinion, what would it take to make acceleration the best stat in a Mario Kart game?

@@Instanence bro why do you care so much your on like 3 other videos talking bout this lil bro 😭
regarding the idea of the next mario kart game having more diverse stats, there's one build i like to use in mk8dx that feels super unique compared to just about any other combo i've tried:
Tanooki Mario
Gold Kart
Slick/Slim/Leaf/Rollers
Peach Parasol
the idea is that it maximises miniturbo while minimising traction. there are very few parts that have high miniturbo and low traction, and i've listed them all here (not including reskins, of course). it's just super fun to take corners with this thing, and tracks like Mario Circuit 3 and Neo Bowser City become an absolute joy to play. i think my favourite wheels to use with it are the leaf tyres, but it really just depends on how much miniturbo you want to give up for -traction.
Man you and Smii7y have completely reignited my love for Mario kart (haven’t played in 6 years cuz studying), thanks and much love❤
You dare question the mighty authority of pnut3844able? Who do you think you are? He has played COUNTLESS hours of this game AND has played mario kart since the SNES. Just listen to his wisdom scrub
Uh, I hope this is sarcasm…
@@Lightning_XD The fact that you would even question this is absolutely ridiculous. Do you even know who pnut3844able is?? He is a player who has played COUNTLESS hours of mario kart ever since the SNES. He is THE authority on mario kart and the fact that losers on the internet would question him is truly pathetic
@Lightning_XD how would it not be you dumb
@@ItsJCrewThis sounds like your worshipping him, and also, it's not like we're all on their level- and if we've never played Mario Kart before, the terms can be confusing for new players. So no, they're not losers, they're probably just confused.

I have actually been really liking adult Rosalina, Teddy Buggy, GLA tires and the Paper Glider. I like the usual meta Yoshi combo, but using GLA tires and a heavier character feels so much better to me.
Thank you so much 😊😊
It would be cool if in a future Mario Kart game, they had a similar system to MultiVersus where you could equip different loadouts to your kart, to boost stats etc. Im not a MK expert so I have no idea how that would balance out, or if it would make the game too complex, but hearing you talking about more fleshed-out stats made me think about it.
nintendo was like: "so you have max acceleration right". proceeds to hit you with 675 items in one race lmao.
I love how he calls out that guy, time to cyberbully him /J
i have 2 ideas:
-do a blue youself, where you bring a blue shell to 1st and hit yourself. it is required to hit directly you, not from the range
-do a mario kart randomicer, it you will get a random character, car, wheels and glider. when you dont get 1st, that character dies, when you get first, you can receive a character. when you get a dead character as character, the video is over
You just made me think of something. Is it possible to throw a blue shell while NOT in first place, then get back up to first place and get hit by that same blue shell?
@@hfido_You just made my mind explode LOL
@@NathanielIanLewis yeah but that would kinda be a new edition of blue yourself kinda
@@hfido_ pff maybe he first needs to complete the normal blue yourself 😂😂 im scared what kind of challenge shortcat will do in 2 years. Can i win by going backwards? :o 😂
What Shortcat has taught me:
Best stat: Luck and Cute
Worst stat: Get hit stat (Lemmy only)
why is this combo criminally cute
"It shouldn't be too bad" famous last words
another interesting stat that I think would be interesting to see brought back is the item luck stat from mario kart DS, this was a very controversial stat but i think it would be cool, like lets say you have high speed high acceleration/mini turbo, handling but your item luck would be absolute garbage, or maybe your item luck stat could influence what items you are even able to get at a given position like maybe if you have a high item luck stat you may get mushrooms in first place or less of a chance to get coins
Shortcut threw a whole race to bring up a RUclips argument
True Legend
@@Shortcat321 you're right how dare I take the get hit stat crown from Lemmy? That's all he has.
I've just discovered that I can't edit a comment in a mobile browser x.x
I think the issue is that acceleration is pretty much always tied to mini turbo. I would really like it if they changed a combo to have high speed and MT, but no acceleration and handling, I'd like to see how it fares both in 150 and 200
When you said " don't laugh" it was already too late.
My personal favourite is keeping all the stats roughly even. I played DK on pipeframe before the dlc, but I don’t know right now. In 200cc it’s just enough to make the corners, so it’s mainly a fun thing. I’d definitely like to see how something like this stacks up though
Yes! You beat C!! I was actually getting a little too loud at the end and my parents came into my room to yell at me...

That is what I think…
The most important stat in every Mario kart game is the fun stat. If your not having fun you are losing.
acceleration might be great but the get hit stat on this one was pretty high too
I don't even play mario kart why am i obsessed with those videos
Love your content! i was wondering if you could do a video about brake drifting, im super struggling with it and by watching your videos I see you doing it really well. Thanks for the great content
I talked a bit about it in the 200cc section of my beginner guide. Tap B instead of holding it, unless you need a quick and big decrease in speed. Besides that, I think just practicing it will do more than any guide since it's really just a matter of "how much do you want to slow down?" And tap B accordingly
thanks i was totally holding B everytime, its a lot better now lol!@@Shortcat321
I have an idea; do max weight, i wanna see how it affects the game play!
That’s basically max speed
@@ShdhbsjsvvMax acceleration is basically max handling but he still did it

I wonder what builds are out there that have equally high Speed and Acceleration.
Bowser, Dry Bowser, Heavy Mii, Morton, or Wario as the driver (10 Speed, 0 Acceleration) or Donkey Kong, Roy, Waluigi, or Wiggler as the driver (9 Speed, 1 Acceleration)
the "pre-DLC meta" stat class (which includes Wiggler, though he wasn't added until Wave 5 and is smaller than DK/Roy/Waluigi) must be used with a tire and glider combination of 2 Speed and 6 Acceleration
City Tripper, Landship, Pipe Frame, Streetle, or Varmint as the vehicle body (2 Speed, 6 Acceleration)
any vehicle body provided here will work as long as the other parts of the combo add up to 11 Speed and 7 Acceleration
either variation of the Roller tires (0 Speed, 6 Acceleration) or Button or Leaf tires (1 Speed, 5 Acceleration)
the Roller variants must be used with a driver and glider combination of 11 Speed and 1 Acceleration
any glider (some have 1 Speed and 1 Acceleration while others have 0 Speed and 2 Acceleration)
a glider with 0 Speed and 2 Acceleration must be used with a driver and tire combination of 11 Speed and 5 Acceleration
Everything I've listed here can be mixed and matched for 13 Speed and 13 Acceleration, as long as the accompanying directions are followed properly. Hope this helps.
Wow, great info there!
@@RemyWillard Greatly.
Hey, I really like your king boo teddybuggy combo. Are there any characters with the same stats that I could use (or very similar stats)?
Link and Rosalina have the same stats 👍
You can also try out the other carts with the same stats. Cat Cruiser has the same stats and Pipeframe, Landship, Streetle, City Tripper, and Varmint have the same Speed and Miniturbo stats. Yoshi Bike and Comet also have basically the same stats but are inside drifts.
If you go kamek + inkstriker, you get nearly identical stats but with a smaller hitbox. Honestly I hadn't even thought of that when I picked king boo. Kamek has the same or similar stats to Mario, Luigi, Iggy, Ludwig, and medium Mii.
And if you're willing to sacrifice more stats, try yoshi on blue falcon, or DK on Mr Scooty.
Roller and cloud/paper glider for all these combos
Their argument about acceleration is like saying in the old Mario Kart Wii “Weight” was the most important stat because every good build had a lot of weight.
But no, it was the speed. Same with this, mini-turbo is the most important stat, the acceleration just comes with it. It’s still important but mini-turbo still stands on top.
Can you do minimum traction on only slippery tracks?
A lot of videos make me laugh, but the argument makes it by far one of THE funniest videos I've seen.🤣
how important is acceleration? (while frontrunning)
I love how shortcat actually writes replys, idk I just think its sweet
You're probably the only person I've watched who makes vine booms really funny
the commenter writes like a 13 year old who is speedrunning a paper that's due the next morning for 8th grade english... if this guy really is old enough to have been playing since the SNES, that's truly unfortunate.
Ive actually been using this combo for awhile, heck pretty sure i used it before i saw this vid, as always love the content dude

I completely agree. I wish there were more stat variety.
the comment war section was amazing lol, maybe having short funny story sections in some future videos would be a cool addition :P
Congratulations on winning after waiting one lap! This is totally the right video!
You realize that this is ALMOST EXACTLY WHAT I USED TO DOMINATE ALL MY FAMILY?! Also Toadette is my main character for Mario Kart game XD

Congratulations on your first win on Vancouver Velocity on online Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
