@@peterrainer3723yeah I figured it was traction. A couple races before I was on the same combo but with Ancient Tires. And top 2 is the only way to end!

Honestly, I think the Traction stat would be more useful if it affected your off-road speed. It still wouldn't be an amazing stat if that was the case, but it would at least be usable on most tracks instead of nearly useless.
Before this video, I was certain that it did.
I think Mario kart 7 had an off road stat.

traction, a stat that has a minimal use on not a lot of tracks: not hidden stat
mini turbo, a stat that is used constantly, used by the most important mechanic in the game (drifting), used everywhere all the time, the most important stat in the game: hidden stat
Slippery roads also effect your Top Speed, which is determined by Traction. 0.75 Traction would result in a *-2%* or *-3%* Top Speed reduction (depending on the category of slippery road). 5.75 Traction would result in a *-0%* or *-1%* Top Speed reduction.
Every point (0.25) of Traction reduces the slowdown by *0.1%*
While you can adapt to the slipping part of Traction, you have no control over the slowdown effect. Blooper Ink is also effected by Traction, so it might do something (even though it’s still little) even on courses without slippery road.
You'll have to be a giga nerd to notice a 3% speed decrease 🤓

Oh that's actually huge, i didn't know about the speed thing. For anyone wondering, 6-7% is the difference between the slowest combo (1 speed) and fastest combo (20 speed), and also the difference between 0 coins and 10 coins.
In other words, about 2 or 3 points of traction is the same as 1 point of speed (on slippery road), which is huge!

Shortcat and Liam are the True Traction Team! Yeah, I've never worried too much about the traction stat in this game. It does seem very situational in your average online race. I mean, I could see it coming in handy for like Time Trials, though.

It's because the traction stat doesn't have any visual difference for us viewers, it just looks like he's playing a ugly combo. But for him who's actually playing the game, he can feel the diference

You should definitely play Mario kart. It takes some practice, but if you get good, you can usually beat your friends in parties

I was bored today and decided to recreate the Shortcat Mii. When playing, I forgot to change back to my Mii and appeared as Shortcat in the lobby. I went on a massive roll, winning a bunch of races, and surpassed 8000 VR, so thanks for the good luck, Shortcat Mii:)

i think if next mario kart does the whole pick your stats thing again, every stat should have a use not only for something gimmicky like "better drift turning on slippery road" but also something that applies on most tracks like "lower deceleration on offroad" or "better drift turning in general". while i'm at it, would be cool if they separated mini turbo speed, length, and charge time across like.. speed stat, miniturbo stat, and idk traction stat i guess.

I think what happened on Waluigi Stadium with the banana randomly appearing is someone in a boo got in front of you and left it there. If you look later in the race, one of the Black Yoshi's reappeared on the map as if he/she used a boo.

Pretty positive that it also affects your traction on normal terrain as well when in a drift, though to a far lesser extent. There is a Mario Kart 8 mod that adds Mario Kart Wii-esc inside drift, and it had to give the inside drift bikes all max traction to feel like MKW inside drift. This might mean it was a MK8 thing removed in Deluxe tho.

I once, no shot, got a star in second in a full race. The front runner had a pretty substantial lead, but right before said star, I had 3 red shells. Thanks to some shortcuts I managed to use the star to steal the lead and win
