Wow, what an improvement, that new front and rear look so sporty and solid. I couldn’t believe what a huge step backwards they took with the catfish-face model, but they corrected in a great way here.
I kinda liked the catfish
@@theshowmaster3836 Same, it looks better in person. When I got my 2020 Sonata limited, the front design quickly grew on me. I am very excited about the new facelift too, though!
@@theshowmaster3836 I liked it too. It looked different, had presence, and you can tell they had fun designing it. This new refresh improves on it but the current/prior one was very good. The only generation I really disliked was the seventh generation (2014-2019). That one was insipid and ugly and made no sense given the success of the sixth generation.
@@theshowmaster3836 same, they had amazingly beautiful lines
I feel like the only people saying the catfish look didn't look good, were people thatve never seen it in person lol.
That front end looks straight out of Cyberpunk, it's amazing how futuristic it looks.
And it's just a mid-cycle facelift!
This as far as we know will be the last generation Sonata for North America
@@John-kx3ng no it's last in Korea because not many people buy Sonata :v they jump to Tucson. If it does well in US, they'll keep it going
It looks like… a cyber truck. Everyone is copying it I see
@@josephshatrowsky huh?
I didn’t mind the old Sonata, but DAAAAMN this looks cool!
Such a big improvement over the current catfish 😊 hopefully this will keep the Sonata from being discontinued. Long live the sedan 🚘
Long Live the sedan!
Long live the sedan indeed.
"To put the bumpers in the headlights" made my day ahahah. Great video as always
I swear to god Kia and Hyundai knows how to design cars beautifully
It helps when you get the Avengers of the car design industry come altogether.
It's because they hired Audi designers.
@@yoshiakik.5332 Didn't know that actually hehe
The only problem is they dont know how to create reliable engines.
Why are you using God’s name in vain? It's just a car. Would you use your mother's name like that?
This might be the answer to all of those who hate the new Accord.
They mess up the new accord.
Interestingly, I feel that the black bar that they applied to this rear lift Sonata, reminds me a lot of the new Accord.
This is so much more distinctive, sporty, and interesting looking than the new Accord that looks decent, but far too safe and generic now. I overall loved the clean, yet dynamic look of the 10th gen Accord. The pre-facelift Sonata was always interesting and cohesive, but I personally wouldn't have bought it as the level of swoopiness and curves was too much for me. This one strikes a fantastic balance between curves and right angles, making it look really great, sporty, and upscale. I think it might now be my current top pick in terms of mainstream mid-size sedans from a design perspective.
Rofl do not even compare sonata with accord. Sonata comes no where close to accord in terms of drivability and technology maturity. Design is an important factor but sonata is just a no match. Lift two cars up and see how they are built and what parts are used.
Nobody that buys a Honda Accord is interested in a Sonata
Imagine if they made a full N based on this Sonata
Edit: Hyundai could use one of their Genesis engines, such as the 365 hp 3.3 L Turbo 6 or the 375 hp 3.5 L Turbo 6, for the task.
With AWD and a proper widebody, it's a wrap for the WRX like Christmas presents
I’d love it, but Hyundai can’t eat away at Genesis sales.
@@GaryKetchum808I don't think the kind of buyer for super stiff N is the same as a soft and luxury Genesis
@AE86FTS depends on the genesis the buyer is looking for. The g70 is pretty sporty
@@Desert_Rogue_Tanker As long as they give it a manual!
The H-shaped tail light is more prominent on their minivan Stargazer because it's huge and certainly attract people's attention
This is absolutely gorgeous from every angle, inside and out
Thanks for noticing all our design teams efforts @Bembli! This was a challenging project - but great to see the reactions now. Best wishes from Seoul!
You were on the design team???
@@skooskipotato3750 indeed part of the team :-)
Looks way nicer than the new accord, we're living in weird times right now. And we have an attractive new Prius??
words cant describe how I love this brand. they just don't miss lol
You should check their minivan the Stargazer, what do you think?
They miss plenty. Way too many engine problems over the last several years. Who cares if a car looks good if it's in the shop all the time.
@@nodak81 I concur with your point. Yet, lots of people seem to love Land Rover and Jaguar for their design when they're mostly parked in service centers for mechanical and electrical issues year round
@@HyperVanilo Looks ass.😂
@@daniedeklerk1914 it is an MPV lmao i don't think the main focus on them is looks but capacity.
Has so much inspiration from the Hyundai Ioniq 6
I remember when I first saw the pre-facelift car in a parking lot while I was eating breakfast, I was like “woah what car is that?” I couldn’t believe it when I found out it was a Hyundai!
I love this redesign i'm getting audi / lambo urus vibes from the front bumper. the only thing i don't like or would change is the emblem on the hood i would move it to the lower part of the front bumper where the sensor box is under the license plate and on the trunk the space above the tail light i would just paint black or continue that checkered flag pattern.
Never been a fan of bumper lights, but man does this work perfectly for this
Imagine if Honda redesign their cars with 90's vibe. Hyundai design team understand something Honda don't.
THIS LOOKS BOSS AF, who's in the kitchen at Hyundai??
Luc Donckerwolke, Albert Biermann and Sangyup Lee.
This looks great. I was a Honda guy, but they lost me with the 2023 accord/le Sabre. It looks HORRIBLE!
Have you seen it in person yet? Or only online
@@Big.W. it's definitely much better in-person. However, most trims look extremely boring and generic in-person IMO
@@Frizzionnare I’d rather have boring and generic over unergonomical. A few days ago, Hyundai even promised the return of buttons in admission that buttons are more ergonomical than a touchscreen as a climate control interface. With these new Sonata climate controls, I’d have to take my eyes off the road more due to how these touchscreens don’t register 100% of the time like hard buttons.
@@Big.W. is not that much better in person tbh!
Love how the straight uniform one beam light is making a come back from the 90's. Old Cressida's and Laurels had that one beam tail light where you could fill the license plate with a reflector making one solid graphic. FD RX7, S13 coupe and NSX rears come to mind as well
BMW needs to hire Hyundai’s designers
Hyundai’s designers/engineers are former BMW designers/engineers.
@@EVsSuck777 That's probably why bmw's cars look the way they do now
@Anthonygixxer94 you making things up lol hyundai took a BMW m engineer, but a BMW designer? What next, hyundai took bmw's salesman as well? 🤣 anyways idk why people say this dumb shit. All car companies have workers that has worked at a different car company in the past.
Looks pretty cool to me…now if they can just focus on and resolve quality control and recall issues and improve customer confidence, they would really be crushing it.
I'm sad we lost those cool chrome lines that mimicked turning into the DRLs.
Like seriously that was super unique and interesting.
I miss that feature as well, at least they didn't ruin the new one
It was a cool feature, but ugly.
I like the last look too.
disagree that was ugly
Honestly, they could have kept that styling on the face lift. Instead of swooping up over the hood on the outgoing design, they could have followed the drl lones to the side of the car and fade out into the car body color. Maybe do a similar motif on the rear end too, fade into the brake lights.
Hopefully they release the N74 as well! What a beauty!
No car company at any price point is doing it like this right now. Just WOW.
Amazing, how Hyundai mastered the front lightbar where VWs and Mercedes' attempts at that just look random and tacky.
This now has mini new Grandeur (Azera) vibes.
Although I love the ‘23 Sonata N-Line I’m currently leasing - aesthetics and all, I have to admit that refresh looks pretty incredible - personally can’t wait to see it in person, namely the N-Line variant. 🤞🏾
I used to hate facelifts, but damn, Hyundai is fixing all the strange design choices they made 2/3 years ago. Hyundai also fixed the HB20, the difference between the 2020 and 2023 versions it´s astonishing, hoping they fix Creta´s design soon.
I can honestly say that the new Sonata is a looker. By far the best looking Hyundai to date imo.
I own a 2022 N Line and I love it. Quirky, but different. I do have to say, in response to your steering wheel comment, that I wasn’t a fan until I bought the car and got used to driving. It’s actually quite nice in daily use.
Anyway, I’m 100% trading mine for a 2024. I am honestly shocked at how much I love the redesign.
Thank goodness we got this! I was worried that the Sonata was going away, but now I’m not worried
One of the biggest changes for the interior is the deletion of the center console mounted push button gear selector with a column mounted twist style gear selector.
Would it be insane to suggest that a Sonata N Shooting Brake/Fastback/Wagon should be a thing? Maybe you can show us what that might look like? ✌️
Check out the Kia ProCeed shooting brake. They don't sell it in the US, but Hyundau/Kia did a dang good job with its appearance. I am not wild about the front end, but the rest of it looks killer.
@@vezonf3nrak Thanks, I'll check it out.
Simply an AMAZING review and analysis of their designs. It's amazing how quickly Hyundai / Kia / Genesis keep advancing and improving. Keep up the amazing work!
This would look so good in silver
I really like so much the Hyundai Sonata 2024 facelift update (especially with the N Line package) and especially from the front...!.👍🏼👌🏼😉
😎
There is some GT86 rear ¾ angle. And that's a GOOD thing.
3:28 That fish absolutely looks like an Aston Martin dbs superleggera
The 2024 Sonata front looks like a car from Back to the Future Part 2 in 2015!
Accord = Generic GTA 5 vehicle
Sonata = Overstyled cyberpunk vehicle
Camry = Toyota, this is your golden chance, dont mess it up.
There gonna mess it up I can already tell
Sonata on top
Hyundai killing it with their designs! Now for then to honor their warranties.
Imagine if Toyota's design team had the same leniency as Hyundai 🤯.
they just launched the facelift to the verna in the Indian market which is very similar looking to the upcoming sonata
The front dlr light bar puts the styling inline with the Staria and new Kona without them like looking cookie cutter design.
This looks beautiful.. but I need that Elantra N
Fantastic review as always!! One of the biggest changes in the interior is the “curved display”. If you look at the display panel it is actually curved, not flat. Hope it becomes a standard to all Hyundai cars in the future.
hyundai is my new favorite brand
You should really do an episode on the split headlight trend.
이번 소나타는 정말 사고싶네요. 궁극의 소나타가 나왔다고 생각합니다~!!
I think "digitalized emotion" is a perfect descriptor phrase for hyundais current and upcoming design language. Like a futuristic android thats developed emotions. Really happy with it all
Lifting the dash cluster from the electric line, works for me.
I've been saying this. Let Hyundai cook 🔥 🔥
The design is definitely an improvement over the previous "droopy eye" design. However, I think that the front looks very flat now. The grill is so wide, and the graphics on the side that frame it are vertical, so the front of the car looks like a poorly designed back end.
The back end of the new Sonata is much much better than it used to be. Where I think there will be room for improvement is in the Pulsar style "louver" turn signals.
In India Hyundai gives same looks called verna two petrol engine optimization 1.4turbo and 1.5na with cvt dct and manual sifter also
3:05
Hyundai and Kia said that this will be the last K5 and Sonota ever before they kill both off. They are not major sellers and the probably want to kill off nameplates to be replaced with the generic EV and Ioniq names sadly.
They said it could last as long as 2028 before finally getting the axe.
3:20 fish in the river in the mud 🤣🤣 thats the nickname of sonata in Korea.
I’m very happy with the 1.6T Hybrid on the Sportage. Coming from a 3.3 TT Stinger.
I saw this on twitter and I thought it was a fake. Man, this is gorgeous❤
i personally dont like the new front end, the old one I loved, but this new car as a whole looks INCREDIBLE, interior screens look like a damn BMW
Front end looks like a more stylized Lucid Air
0:55 "To put the bumpers in the headlights" :D
interior design comparison should be done with the night mode for the current sonata. it does have similar color ambient lights, so it looks kinda similar to the new one.
Awesome! So the Sonata is not going away! I can’t wait to see what the next Subaru Legacy and Honda Odyssey looks like! Hope it’s available in the US! If it’s not, then I’ll get it in about 25 years.
This thing is awesome! I'm surprised you didn't describe the shifter change from push button to Mercedes style column shifter. That's pretty awesome too. I like both. 👍🏾 cool car
I would love if the swooping hood was raised a little. Kind of like the RS6 front end, it needs a larger a longer face.
They definitely have the Chinese market in mind with the new face-lift. That's an XPeng front end.
Can't wait for the next gen, btw new Altimas, Camrys accords and Malibus are coming too
I liked the old headlights though
So much better than the previous look!
This car shares its platform with the K5/Optima right? I can see the K5 all in the face but just more sculpted and it’s gorgeous. A lot more emotional than the new Accord sadly
The tail light housings are actually about the same size and shape as the old, just the lights and design is different. Which is good, and keeping the old housing means they likely didn't have to change any sheetmetal, just slotted in. Its possible the new housings could actually fit in the old car. I feel the front could have been improved like Bebli showed in his render, but the all new front end is a positive step. Reminds me of the Hyundai Grandeur in Korea. While I loved the old rear, the new one reminds me more of the Elantra rear (upper trim levels), which I love even more. Overall, I agree, its great. Hopefully help boost their sales, which have been lagging lately. (I hope they do something like this to the Ioniq 6 in a few years- the headlights are too amorphous, don't create strong character)
Hyundai refreshes a model, everyone: wow, it looks just like a redesign/new generation.
Other car makers refresh a model, everyone: I can't really tell what's new or changed, is this really a refresh?
FORD ESCAPE REFRESH WAS SO LAZY LMAO
Grumpy Robocop look is good.
It looks so good!. The only car they need to fix now is the Tucson. Shame they copied BMW in the interior
Not a fan of the big dual screens in these modern cars, but overall this new Sonata looks exceptional
Hyundai and Kia has the best glow-ups ever.
Can't wait to see how they step up the K5 when it gets a refresh. That's gonna be a bombshell.
Like the previous stairing wheel. Hate the intentation on the rear side.
I've never wanted a Hyundai yet alone a sonata BUT this one in the N line 😮💨 might have to cop
The new rear end tail light bar design come from the Elantra N.
10000% better than the Accord 😩👌👏🏻
Much better front end!! Not a fan of the tablet screen sticking out of the dash like it was tacked on look. Would look nicer if it had a built in look. If it was a lift back I would consider buying one.
Man Hyundai got the wildest 'mid-cycle' refreshes. Lol....G70 was wild too.
I love the new design, especially since I own the current sonata I think the new one is a good improvement, I wish they kept the taillights from the current version though, I’m sure it would still fit in the new design they have and I think it looks a lot better than the new sideways I- beam style light that they have. I also prefer the current steering wheel, I use all the holds at the bottom of the current one, the new one removes the center hold which is actually my favorite for long drives, I think car manufacturers should leave the four spoke steering wheels because then everyone has somewhere to put their hand
I have the 2021 "Caftish" N Line and will NOT be trading it. I love the older style. This one is not bad but they took all the personality out of it.
I LOVE THE NEW ACCORD
You can easily tell that it means business! And when I mean business I mean barreling down the highway past German sports cars! And it also screams sporty and fast! Amazing pick TheSketchMonkey/Bembli!
Headlights in the bumper broo lol
The new design language by Hyundai makes the whole brand seem like miles ahead from what it used to be
You forgot to mention that gear selector moved to steering wheel column...
It looks so good. Shame I won't be able to get one here in the UK.
i think im actually going to consider this over the new accord now that its been refreshed
That front is just insaaaane
Absolutely the best design of midsize sedans right now . I love this brand specially azera and sonata
Those Korean car brands do know how to make beautiful technologies and designs for cars. Too bad they dont know how to make reliable engines and transmissions. Last I check that is the most important part of any vehicle.
Wow. I like this. It feels very cyber punk to me without being too out there
they got the front headlight idea out of the 7 series. Except they just executed it in a much better way
Love the 2024!
The bumper headlights don’t create an identity since everyone does it. It was cool at first but now they all look the exact same.
