This, ironically enough, is that same energy that caused a rift between Lamborghini the company, and one Horacio Pagani, who in turn went on to create Pagani, and then the Zonda and Huayra afterward.

    • @reyeseuropeos9153
      @reyeseuropeos9153 Год назад +69

Actually it's a false equation, Enzo Ferrari did "insult" Ferruccio Lamborghini on a personal level just because Enzo was an egoistic man who didn't want to take feedbacks for a premium race car from a tractor building company's owner while in the case of Horacio Pagani, he was an employee whose ideas were ignored and rejected on an organisational level, which actually is a common act in all the companies/firms/organisations/institutions etc, and happens all the time.
And it was even more clear and expected cause Pagani wanted Lamborghini to change its whole concept and base design and he wanted them to introduce carbon fibre which was actually not thought back then.

Indeed, one thing to point out is also the differences between the two Italian styling houses - Pininfarina traditionally did the Ferraris, while Bertone (or more specifically Marcello Gandini) did the Lambos. The squared wheel arch is a typical Gandini design cue, seen on a few classic Lamborghinis, and other brands whose style he influenced too, like Maserati and Citroen. Also lately, it seems Lamborghini has brought the square arch back.

Bembli, the mention of the rift between Ferrari & Lamborghini in your article reminds me of how intense it was.
I was traveling the circuits with Paul Hawkins and Frank Gardener in either 1965 or 1966??. - memory is not what it used to be.
Frank had crashed at Pau so we returned to Modena for repairs where we were kindly allowed to use the workshops of Scuderia Serenissima. Whilst there we were offered the use of the very first Miura but the proviso was that we took accommodation very near Ferrari’s factory entrance and we were to leave at the same time as Ferrari’s work force arrived to clock on and return when they clocked off AND we were to drive like lunatics - as much wheel-spin as possible!!! No problem...
Apparently Enzo was always having major bust ups with his staff and Lamborghini wanted experienced personnel, particularly disgruntled ones! I remember the start of the Lambo production line starting in the largest factory I had ever seen.

i'm not certain that the story of the clutch is quite accurate, he did have clutch issues with his white car, but he was more upset about the fact that Ferrari wouldn't replace it for him, so he modified it with a clutch from one of his tractors. That very car is currently in a UK garage where the full history of where the tractor clutch came from is being investigated and clarified for historical purposes.

    • @mrdigi2t

The version I've heard was that he was having an issue with the clutch, and after disassembly at his own shop, discovered that it was an off the shelf part that he used in his tractors. It's when he discovered that Ferrari was charging 10 times the actual cost of the part, that he confronted Enzo about it. Instead of trying to justify the cost, Ferrari instead insulted Lamborghini by alluding that that perhaps the driver was the problem, and not the part. With that... the rest is history.

I'm at somewhat of a crossroads when it comes to this video and this argument. Here's my problem: I've been to those tracks where you can rent a really fast car and go about for a few laps. I've driven the Aventador, and a Gallardo Spyder around, Ferrari wise was a 430 spyder, california (friends of mine), but on track the 458 and the F12 were fantastic. I grew up a Lamborghini guy, my favorite Lambo has to be a 6 Speed Murcilago Roadster, but now growing up and having these experiences, Lamborghinis and fun, aventadors especially are built to grip and accelerate like a mad man. But Ferraris are so goddamned precise, everything feels correct and meant to be, it's feels like a cold calculated surgeon. Also if I had a lot of money and went into a dealer full of lambos and saw a 599 GTO for sale, well the 599 wins 🤷‍♂️😂
As much as Enzo was an asshole that man made some amazing creations and shaped his brand to chase after that precise perfection.... Also shaped the company to be assholes to send out cease and desist's
Also I've known this story I'm aware the clutches were what caught his eye but Ive also heard some parts from the brakes were used as well...

Enzo Ferrari always wanted to be a race car driver.... He literally owned Ferrari and could drive any Ferrari he felt like driving; he drove a Peugeot!! Oh, and let's also remember that Ferrari considers owning a Ferrari to be "An experience". I suppose if a person enjoys being treated like garbage, is told that they should feel happy for being overcharged for repairs, is told that they must purchase several undesirable Ferrari models before they will even be considered an acceptable buyer for a desirable model in the future, will be sued if Ferrari decides they do not approve of a social media photo someone took of their own car, is okay with being forced to pay $25000 for a certificate proving the Ferrari they purchased brand new from an authorized Ferrari dealership is actually a Ferrari, etc. then Ferrari might just be for you.

Wedge design was far more of a characteristic of late 60's and 70's card design rather than of just Lamborghini's. Lamborghini was the brand which continued on with it so much so it became it's trademark design, it while others moved on

Just saw this. You do not really analyze this right: 1) The GTO was front-engine, while Miura was mid-engine (very different distribution of parts and weight). 2) the design differences were not between Ferrari and Lambo, but between Pininfarina and Bertone (or more correctly Marcello Gandini who 'styled' both Miura and Countach. BTW- Gandini himself holds Countach is higher esteem than Miura). The Modena and Gallardo and the rest of current drivel were corporate designs and do not really matter as far as "classic" Ferrari and "classic" Lambo go.

Focusing exclusively on the body shape of these cars really misses over half the story of them. Lamborgheni created the 'modern' super car with the release of the Miura. Relatively light weight, with a high powered V8 transversely mounted mid-ship in the chassis. Ferrari, and no other car maker, had anything like it. Beautiful to look at, exhilarating to drive (I am told). At that point, Ferrari was half a decade behind in developing an equivalent car. And when he did, Lambo was there with the ultimate Countach.

Comparing 250 GTO and Miura is vot very valid. The right one would be Miura and Daytona. Also the 288 GTO and Countach is not the correct one. It should be BB and Countach. Secondly Miura was never really Ferruccio’s desire. It was a side kick by his key designers and only once the car was built to a completion it got Ferruccio’s acceptance.
Lamborghini design language has had three stages over the years. 1. the first cars 350 GT; 2. Miura which was an intrepretation of GT40 and 3. The 1970 Bertone futuristice wedge style which still continues. Ferrari with a history with Pininfarina and Scaglietti had for long emphasis in curvy female forms - 330/P4 being the culmination. Since around 1990s both of them have integrated detail trends into their designs.
Great cars. In my eyes the best successes are 330/P4, original Dino and lately 458 Italia and on the other side 350 GT, Miura. I dont like anything Lambo did starting from Countach. They look pervert exhibionist’s cars.
For driving, it is every time Porsche.

The actual offending conversation between Enzo and Ferruccio, and widely quoted, Ferruccio said to Enzo, "I love your cars but the shifter sticks in 2nd gear when they are cold." Enzo replied, "You don't know how to drive Ferraris. You only know how to drive tractors. Go back to your farm." This was at an Italian Government function celebrating post war entrepreneurs.
BTW: Lamborghini started after WWII salvaging battle tanks and converting them into farm tracors.
