FYI: You can run slightly steeper pitch props on the bottom motors because the relative angle of attack is lower since the air is accelerated by the top props before teaching the lower ones.
It should increase efficiency a bit.

offset motor mount is interesting, especially thinking that there is an airflow benefit irregardless of being a shortcut design

just wanted to say that your flouride 5" i´ve build flys absolutley amazing. So happy about it!
No i wondered how to get better hd out of it (better then dji dvr). Had some bad experiences withnthe isnta360 go and session 5 seems pretty heavy
the session 5 is actually pretty good for the 4" or 5" Fouride. It would be my recommendation. The gopro mount platform on the Fouride is the same as all the other frames at FPVCycle so the same mounts are compatible.

That's a hex. The best you can hope for is a controlled crash if you loose a motor/prop on a hex. An octo will have zero issues running without a motor or two. I've had it happen in the past more than once
so when you land.. the bottom motors shafts going grind the floor all the time?
Yeah but this is just a test. I've ran 4 batteries through this quad and I'm taking it apart already for the next test
Can you make a 5” freestyle frame deadcat that can fit a 1000uf capacitor, a gps, a vifly 2 beeper, an air unit and a 30x30 stack please. Where it fits neatly and not stuffed in like crazy
That is the Glide with optional dead cat arms we have in the store. The glide has tons of room. Not a challenge to fit it all in
How do you land it without damaging the motors?
I've been trying to figure out a safe way to land with upside down front motors and angled props. Best I could come up with is using a fin underneath the quad, but I feel there might be a better solution that I'm not seeing yet.
Yeah this is just a test quad. It doesn't do anything for take off and landing. It's a struggle running a quad like this for sure

You could drop four motors/props and it would still fly fine. It would need to be the correct 4 motors/props however
What do you think of Y4 and Y6 setups, then?
Seems like you'd have to do something different on the bottom vs the top like maybe higher pitch and/or kv to get the biggest benefit but that's just a gut reaction. Awesome project!
Yeah you could do more pitch on the bottom.
Contro rotating loses 50% thust than two singles anyway. That misaligned motor is weird and might work, try the upper motor in front of lower, then when tilts props will align more and upper will compress air better for lower prop.
I moved the top motor back to make sure props were out of view

How come....what's the advantage?
Several advantages to consider. It’s much stronger than either micro or mini usb, it’s a newer technology that’s much more universal nowadays (in the world as a whole, not just in FPV). Plus it’s what DJI and GoPros use so makes sense to have the same connector across all three.

why is there no horizontal standoff on the camera plates on the fouride? Wouldn´t that protect the dji cam from the bottom as well?
That frame you're describing is the Prototype 5 frame for now. the latest version should be here sometime soon

Youre probably losing any gained thrust with the lower motor blocking a good portion.
No more than the lost power from the coaxial setup
X8 is also good for redundancy. If a motor fails or an esc the quad "should" be able to recover and make it home, no?
Yeah I explain how you could loose up to four of the correct motors and still fly home

The motors combined only weigh a couple grams more than a single 2306. The frame arms are lighter and the rest I cannot begin to understand myself

The issue is cramming the esc's in there
Check out the shendrones big baby it's a 3 inch octo though the props are not like these they are on top of each other
Lower speed is useful for cinematic as you still want the full movements but too much speed makes cinematic video look bad, that's why I thought the protek was promising but this looks more like it.
I forgot to mention that this flies a lot like a cinewhoop. Super slow and controlled
@@Kabab yeah but you were throwing it well also, as in fully aerobatically, I took my 5" in trees and that's when you release how fast it is, so then to fly slow your angle to compensate, the cam then is crap for vid etc. It's nice to have something that is as capable as 5" but slower but still carry full GP. Most cinewhoops are rubbish for good dynamic flight as a lot of frontal drag and sitting on jets of air is just weird it turns out 🤣

Our own glide frame because it's actually designed to work well and it's not that expensive. We should have just gotten a shipment in. Will be opening the box tomorrow. It just arrived right now.

they're about 16% larger than 2306.5 but weigh about 2g less. There will be two versions. The premium version that's pictured and the normal version. The premium will be $24.49 and the normal will be $19.99.

@@noamamir0942 the motors will only come in 2200kv and 1880kv. So 5s and 6s. There's no point to 4s on 5" unless it's under 600g AUW which is basically impossible with a hero GoPro.

How did you land it?
Just cut the throttle and let it drop. Same way I always land on gravel or sandy floor. Minimizes dirt getting in the motors
4s 4-inch maxes out theoretically around 3750kv. That's 60000 RPM for a tip speed of 1047fps. Speed of sound at sea level is about 1100. For comparison, 5-inch tip speed on an 1850kv 6s setup is 968fps at just under 45000 rpm. Not pushing the limits quite as much, but based on that literal comparison of 1 setup, I'd reason to think 900-1000 is safe and 1000-1100 is pushing the limits, especially if you account for my calc of RPM being at a round 4v per cell for simplicity, and not taking into account drag effect of the blades preventing the motors from reaching the theoretical RPM.
Anyway, my point is; X8 4-inch on 6s with 2500kv bottoms and 2000kv tops. 25% difference in RPM should compensate for the coaxial effect, and from there you can play with prop matching to further dial in the characteristics. Also, a 4-inch octo should theoretically have similar disc area to a 6-inch quad. Well, actually it would have to be 9 motors and props of 4-inch to perfectly match it, but people don't even mess with normal tri-copters anymore, much less OTHER odd numbered setups.
I've tested this a lot more recently and made some videos on coaxial things later on as well. Unfortunately I find that there's only a ~7% efficiency gain to be had if there's a ~10% difference in kv with the bottom being higher. Also, the general 'stuck in 2nd gear' feeling never goes away. Coaxial is just not good and should only be used if absolutely necessary.
@@Kabab But have you tried a greater difference between the motor KV? Such as 20%-25%?
@@Drunken_Hamster yes. I've gone as far as 50% and I've made custom motors to test too. Not just changed it in software. There's no benefit. The greatest improvement in control performance is if you just shut off the top or bottom set of props....

Build a 3s TP3 to complement it in areas where you can take advantage of more power. Tp3 in office parks has been my JAM.

After checking this video, I checked some of the motors available that are 2408.5 motors. They are about the same combined weight of two 2203/4 motors but they are 1.5 times the stator volume. You could technically build a 12s quad with the your 4” frame using the gemfan 4052 props and still be under the weights you are describing. But I imagine with your build there is more redundancy value.
Sure but what do you need 12S for? Voltage doesn't mean anything and unless you need the power, it's a LOT less efficient
