    Thanks Jeff for making this brilliant video ! I was curious about what pedal effects Warren used live at the US festival ? Was it a Morley echo oil can, AD flanger , MXR 100 , or other effects? He also looks like he has a bunch of rack mount effects , But who really know's ? What pedals do your use for Warrens tone? I would love to see you guys perform sometime ! Best wishes Tom

      Hi Tom, 2 years later I' not sure how I missed the comment. I am uninformed on Warren's specific US festival rig. My research was Fuzz Face, Foxx Tone Machine (fuzz), Morley oil can delay, ADA flanger, MXR100. I feel like I read somewhere that there was an onboard preamp on his guitar, but I can't confirm that. As such, I have a vintage DOD Preamp pedal that was the first in line. I used Fuzz Face and Foxx Tone Machine clones, as well as a rare ADA Flanger clone. I have a Maxon Vintage series Phaser, which I used to simulate the MXR (not a clone). The delay was the hardest. Catalinbread makes a pedal called the Adineko, which is apparently the brand of oil for those delays. It's a digital approximation of an oil can. It probably doesn't sound much like it, but it did get me a whole lot closer than a typical digital or analog delay, even with modulation. Hope that helps! And wish you could have seen us while we were active!

    Hello Jeff, pretty cool to find someone on here who,s into this song as I am , ive watched them play this song many times, ive been trying to find those notes and do exactly the there guitarist does it, hes a tricky somebody,lol, nevertheless a great guitarist , though he never has received the credit he really deserves , hes just as good if not better than a lot of wanna be guitarists out there who get more play for a song as a whole rather than just the guitarists , as this guy is clearly great in his own right, I was pleased to find your video of this song ,honestly I wasn't sure if it would be on here as a guitar lesson , I super appreciate you taking your time to learn it and post it, big time Thank You Jeff, now im able to play right along with you, very cool, had a good time learning this rare missing persons song, which back in the 80,s was on MTV big time, Martha stewart ,lol, I think she was the host of it when they were playing back then, that and destination unknown , and Dale , WOW !!! she was hot , you wouldn't happen to know the guitarist name would you ? many Thanks Jeff, I hope to see some more cool rare missing persons songs you know , very cool Jeff , William 4-25-20

      Hi William. Thank you for this comment. I very much appreciate it. And I'm happy you enjoyed it and found it helpful. The guitarist's name is Warren Cuccurullo. Did you happen to check out any of the other videos on my channel? I was in a tribute to Missing Persons for a little while, so figured out most of their songs. In fact. if you look at the comment below from "NO" "Noticeable Ones", that was tribute project. You might enjoy checking that channel out as well. Yes, Warren and everyone in that ground was amazing. They did after all, come from Frank Zappa, and Zappa isn't going to allow any slouches in his group. Best.

      Hey Jeff, thanks for the quick response, that's a wild last name for sure, lol, would you happen to know of his background as far as who hes played for before joining missing persons ? and what has Warren done since M.P. ? oh and I should be the one thanking you for not only learning this song but posting it as well, I have to be honest, I wasn't sure if I would find this song on here as a lesson, I was gratefully surprised to find it, extremely well done Jeff, to answer your question about checking out your tribute channel, I hadn't gotten a chance as I was watching you play noticeable one, lol, I had to keep rewinding to gain a good grasp on how you were pulling him off, I was having some difficulty, keeping up with you,lol, and had spent quite some time learning it , but now that ive gained noticeable one under my belt, im ready to move on to your channel, and check out the rest of your work, im looking forward to watching it and listening to you, you do a fine job of teaching ,and learning yourself, ill be spending some time on your channel ,I have some fav,s from M.P. destination unknown, walking in L.A. WORDS , I think it was called windows that sounded cool to me, one thing I also have to admit Jeff, is Warren had a very different looking guitar one ive never seen before, it looked as though he had a major guitar rig , not just an amp an some pedals, he had what looked to be a major rig, floor pedals, processors E.Q.,s floor keyboards, he was getting some wild sounds out of that set up and his guitar, I was wondering what he would sound like next, lol, but he kept my interest , a lot of these guitarists think you need to be like malmsteen to be any body good these days, when I feel just the opposite ,Warren didn't cram a thousand notes in a milli sec. lol, but he sure kept it interesting, at least to me he did, Jeff, im sorry for talking your ear off, I have a few more questions for you, if its okay, ah, would you happen to know how many albums Warren appears on ? and how many albums did M.P. produce ? and lastly, what besides the songs I mentioned , did they have more considered most popular songs ? and if so, would you know the names of the albums they appear on ? or the names of those songs ? Thank You so much Jeff, im extremely grateful for your time and knowledge and abilities , Cheer,s to you sir, well done , I certainly appreciate it, Thank you very,very much Jeff, Sincerely William Missing Persons Fan , 4-27-20

      @@The68lespaul Hi William. I don't really have all the info you are looking for. While I know how to play a lot of MP songs, I haven't thoroughly studied the life and career of Warren. I can tell you that he came from Frank Zappa's band (as did nearly all of Missing Persons), and after MP, played with Duran Duran (was the guitar player for the mega hit Ordinary World). Beyond that I cannot really tell you as I don't really know myself.
      As for most popular MP songs? The only "popular" song they had was Walking in LA, and not everyone even knows that. But that was their big "hit", if you can call it that. The album that has the majority of songs anyone would really know is their debut album, Spring Sessions M (which contains all the letters of Missing Persons). Outside of Spring Sessions M, there were a couple notable songs. Color in Your Life and Give immediately come to mind. Just look it up. Google is your friend. Thanks again William.

      Cool Jeff, destination unknown was the 1st song I ever heard , then by accident I caught walking in L.A. Dale was one well built lady ,she claims to have designed all her own costumes , to me ,I think Dale was the 1st to invent that new wave look, broken glass glued to her face, 3 or 4 colors in here hair, see through costumes , she was the bomb, lady gaga don't come close to Dale,s imagination of style and voice, Dale started it far as im concerned , she,ll always be the QUEEN of the new era for this kind of music hands down, but it seems like they took a dump and petered out as far as writing great hits and keeping people into them , no top 10,s hitting the billboard chart, no top 10 hitting the singles chart, its like there talent for new and creative songs went out the window, the hits stopped coming, heck even a great single once in a while would have been something ,but that never came to be , its like they gave up as if theyball felt they gave the best theynhad thenn there were none left to give, that's sad when Dale, and the rest of the band had such passion especially the drummer he slammed those drums , beat,em like a wild man , but it was great, the music world is up and down, and awesome hits don't come easy, some bands EX: Rolling Stones ,keep filling stadiums forever , without ever writing a new hit for decades,lol, its crazy unreal, but it happens , you walk up to someone today and ask about M.P. they,ll look at you like your crazy, its like you have to have a huge pile of great hits to lift you to the top along with a mountain of albums full of hits that went platinum that everyone around the world loves and seems to keep loving forever, those types of bands can take a 10 15 year break , tell the public there doing a tour and they sell out, ???? it just blows my mind , writing hits doesn't come easy, most bands become tribute bands but even they fade away, but the ones who write the mega hits and sell the platinum albums get to feel what its like to be a billionaire , wild world we live wouldn't you say ? lol nice talking with Jeff, take care ,oh thanks for all the info on the band , much appreciated Jeff, 5-15-20 Sincerely, William W.H.W.

      I just had a conversation with the bass player I played in the band with (who also did a couple shows with Dale). He said the original song has no bass guitar, only synth bass. That is what we did live. You can see him on the right in the video at the end.
      He also said that Dale’s book “Life is so Strange” has the original sheet music for the whole song. So that might be a place to look.

    Are you actually playing a Carvin rig like Warren played? WOW.
    I don't even think of Missing Persons as new wave. For example when they played the US Festival in 83, they played on ROCK day, and most of their songs are just good straight up rock. I was lucky enough to see them on their Spring Session M tour.
    Also, do you play baseball?

    • @JeffreyMusial
      @JeffreyMusial  3 года назад

      Yeah, I actually found a vintage 1980 (or 81) X100 half stack. I had all the authentic pedals. The tone was super dialed (save the fact that I was using a guitar with EMGs).
      That’s super cool you got to see them. The drummer (and think the bass player as well) saw the US Festival. As for genre, I always was told they were new wave. I’m in my early/mi 40s (🤫 don’t tell anyone), so I was just missing it age wise - even though my parents did a super good job of blastocyst rock music. Must be why I ended up playing guitar!
      Thanks for checking out the video!

      @@JeffreyMusial So while I got you here Jeff, why does everyone seem to be playing this wrong? When Warren plays the GMin riff into the C bend, down to the Bb, he isn't playing single notes, he's playing partial chords.
      When he bends that C, sharp up to the D or microtonal "almost D" he's also grabbing the F natural above it, and he doesn't just end on the Bb before that slide, he plays the Bb and D partial chord (part of the GMin or part of Bb major). At least that's the way it sounds to me on the recording, yet all the cover bands play those single notes.
      What's up with that?

  • @DirtyBlues8
    @DirtyBlues8 Год назад +1

    Shouldn’t that intro riff be G 3rd fret on the 6th string & G 5th fret on the D string & not G & F as you mentioned?

    • @JeffreyMusial
      @JeffreyMusial  Год назад

      It's both. Rewatching, I was not as rigorous with my words as I could have been. I said, "Octaves on G and F". To be clear, the G is played as an octave as you say (3rd fret on the 6th string and 5th fret on the D string, which is what I'm playing), and the F is only on the 6th string once between Gs on the 6th string. There are no octave Fs (no 3rd fret on the D string). I played it accurately and was a bit loose with the words. Thanks for pointing it out. Does that clarify things and make more sense?
