Nice work. I have a pair in my community tank. It’s a planted tank with lots of plants, including Java moss, that is situated next to a window that gets morning light. I’ve been feeding lots of brine shrimp and Daphnia and yesterday discovered 1/4 inch fry! Want to try intentionally spawning them in a small aquarium like you do here. Do you know of any other spawning triggers?

Emporor tetras are actually ‘period’ spawners and will spawn on a daily basis until the female is empty of eggs. If you separate the sexes and feed them up for 10-14 days and then put them together in a spawning tank you can raise a spawning of approx 40 youngsters. Alternatively, you can put a trio, 1 male to 2 females, in a heavily planted tank with Java moss and start harvesting the tank after about 6 weeks. You must of course have soft water with preferably zero KH although pH seems to be less important.

I have soft water with 0 kH and acidic pH with a huge clump of Singapore moss in a 26 gallon tank. Would that work for spawning emperor tetra?

@@giftofthewild6665 what is your GH? As long as this isn’t too high you should be fine. There is only one way of finding out so try them. What you have to remember is that the tests we carry out as hobbyists are only an indicator and cannot tell us what other chemicals or minerals are present in our water - only a laboratory analysis can do this. Also, there can be many factors that make your water slightly acidic some that good, some that a not so good…

@@SaadKhan006 are you talking about N palmeri or I Kerri (the so called purple emperor) as they are different species? Also you say you have soft water but what are the KH and GH measurements as well as the pH?

I think i have 4 males and 1 female. I wasnt worried about breeding but ive since decided i want all my fish to display their authentic natural behaviours. Ideally id like all my fish to be reproducing and alot of them are( ive even managed to get Kulhi Loaches breeding and i only started with 3) but these guys haven't yet for me.
TLDR: i believe i have 4 males 1 female, they havent bred yet. Should i add females to even out the number? Or remove a few males?

does temperature play role in female and male ratio on the egg? I heard from some breeder, temperature play a part in producing more fry on certain sex.

Thats cool you achieved to breed them. Is it the same process for all tetra species? Im trying to breed ember tetras but so far no fies and no breeding behaviour :(.

Great video man! I wanna breed mine some day too. Awesome video and will put this info into use for sure! Keep up the amazing work and looking forward to seeing more work from you! 👍
Also, do you keep the water heated when hatching the eggs? And if so, how?
