- The second debate between Frank Turek (author of I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist) and Christopher Hitchens (author of God is not Great). The question of this debate was "What Best Explains Reality: Atheism or Theism? and was recorded at The College of New Jersey; 31st March, 2009.
Poor Frank. It was over before he even walked on stage.
Imagine being as articulate and clever as Christopher Hitchens it amazes me whenever he speaks , such a great man rest in peace
@Scot .harvath If there is an omniscient god who wants me to believe it exists, why does it send the likes of Turek to put me off?
I've not seen the whole debate, but from what I've seen, he hasn't landed a single point. In fact I've never seen that happen.
He’s not resting in peace 😂😂
@@jillcollins8424 No he's dead. Something we all have to try once but seldom twice. A bit like pot noodles.
@Scot .harvath Can't say he was even close.
Articulate, clever and brain dead. I watched his video the other night and he was handed his ass on a silver platter. He could not answer a straight forward simple question.
Wow Franky boy has got a little anger problem eh?

"The second Law of thermodynamics proves a creator",,,,Oh really....??
Absolutely astounding!!
Although it could have been universe farting fairies....
No it dosent. It just proves that the Universe had a beginning and that the universe is expanding infinitely. Space time and the universe had beginning according to Einstein Theory of relativity. With that said, in order for the universe to be such finally tuned and balance, its determined that nature itself could not be random. The second law of thermodynamics just support the idea that universe was designed and that it had a beginning
I paused the video at that time to check the comments, ridiculous. These religious nuts just make up things as they go by.
Because anything that has a beginning must have a cause, and things which have a complexity of information which is superior, but supports that which comes after it must have a designer. The designer need not have a cause if it never had a beginning. That which is outside of the omniverse, which exists in eternity, having no beginning or end, does not need a creator.
Prior to the big bang matter was so dense that time didn't exist. Also, the way that we perceive time is very limited as we know that other dimensions exist. Time isn't lineal we just perceive it that way. Einstein's theory of relativity recognizes that the speed at which time passes is relative to the speed mass and energy of the vessel. The universe could have existed in the pre-big bang state for a timeless eternity or for just a moment, we don't know. The cosmic microwave background is the only evidence left and it is dissipating as the universe continues to expand.
The universe is not eternal - but it has existed for all of time.
When Einstein said human stupidity is infinite, he must have had "Frank Turek" in mind 😂😂😂
Perfectly said! LOL.

@@comunistanuncatemcomida what?
Lol… Perfect!!!
I don't think Frank realizes that infinity isn't a number, it's a concept. There are infinite measurements between 1 inch and 2 inches. You can have infinite time between two points of time because infinity isn't a number. Frank is saying it's impossible to have infinite time between two points of time because he doesn't understand what infinity means.
Too many of these kids dont actually have a question. They just want the spotlight for 20 seconds . Not well phrased or even thought out. Good patience be the debaters..
Turek is embarrassing.
Turek totally misses the point on the first question. Sometimes Hitch gets stuck in his "greatest hits", But this was a good response.
And on another note I have no idea why people are attacking tureks argument in particular other than the fact that before they watched this they made their mind up and were not even open to hearing what he had to say. Overall Turek had the stronger argument in this particular debate (this isn't me saying he is right though! He just debated the topic alot better!) Christopher's points were generally very very weak and most of the questions he couldn't even answer properley. Not his best night?
Science allows for a sort of agnosticism...so there are things we know and thing we dont know the things we don't know we seek to know..if can be known..nevertheless we dont stop seeking ...the problems with religions in general is that they all seem to be constructs....man made..invented ..but as our cortex evolved we could conceive the thought of God...in one way religion is the opium of the people ..but not just religion..
To say time had a beginning is a logically flawed question. To be a cause to something requires time in the first place so at the instant of the big bang logic completely falls apart. We simply dont know the nature of that state of existence.
So basically, you just said you're lazy about seeking truth, and when you spout your opinions and someone calls you on them, you run yourself into a circle. Then when you see you're at the end of your rope try to turn the debate into an emotional scenario, in which I'm the wild loon and your the cool-headed genius. You have some learning to do.
Tureks like the guy that joined boy Scouts for the uniform, and not like the guy that didn't join boy Scouts even though the pocket knife and fire starter were tempting
@7:08_ is Turek for real?..coz millions of christians would totally disagree with him.
We have quite a lot of data, for example, data using Psychopaths (using FMRI) that clearly illustrate that morality is mechanical in nature (created by the brain). OF course, one should remember that what we deem to be 'moral' can be 'learned' from our environment (the ideas we take in). For example, for the hijackers of 9/11 their actions, to them, were moral.
God did it. Everything is answered.
Excellent. Now let's stop all scientific exploration. Let's see how that works out for us.

A a pastor I must say that I have loved listening to Hitchens. He had a brilliant mind and was superb in exposing religious nonsense. He was also a very entertaining speaker with a delightfully dry sense of humor. I miss him.
I think honest Atheism is a brave conclusion and perhaps even brings you closer to the Truth than Religion does.
Thank you, truly, for being open minded. I'm so worn of hearing an intellectual argument getting boiled down by people of faith to simple ignorant hate and judgement. It flies in direct contrast to what I know of the Christian faith. Thank you, sir.
Surely you're to open minded to be a pastor?
The truth is not always beautiful, nor beautiful words the truth pastor. Just because someone entertains you, makes you smile, and keeps you interested does not mean your not headed straight into a wall. All of those elements you praised Hitchens for, are obvious distractions created by the devil, to blind "open minded" people like you into thinking blasphemy is present here but not there. An atheist like Hitchens was always commiting blasphemy. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that you are probably complacent of withcraft (if its white magic), pagan religions (if they include love), and anything else that explores a universal (all roads lead to heaven) motto. It is very clear your quasi-christian version of God borders on the satanic. You posted your comment just to score points with people that clearly choose not to believe in Jesus Christ and that is dissapointing. I would rather please God by being honest regardless of who I offend than to keep my faith hidden because I have not enough spiritual backbone to defend Jesus Christ and his Kingdom. If you want a fulltime God, you have to be a fulltime believer. Straddling the fence impresses no one. Jesus is coming soon, be ready, no time for games Pastor ...
Well, sir, I hope you've considered alternative employment in the subsequent 4 years since your comment.
The atheist feels empathy for those waiting to asks questions and relinquishes his time. The Christian snarls fuck them I am making my closing statement.
Frank Turek is insane.
Asking "what is the purpose of life?" is implying that life exists for a purpose, rather than life exists because of physics.
It is like asking what is the purpose of nuclear fusion in a star? Nuclear fusion is simply a consequence of physics.
Hitchens wins again!
Hitchens is great, but his strength is in debating with emotion, politics and humor. I think someone with more of a scientific mind would make for a more interesting debate against Turek, perhaps Sam Harris for example. I think it is obvious Turek's knowledge/understanding is lacking, but it was a pity Hitchen's didn't really pull him up on it.
In my opinion life has no definite "purpose" I think it's up to each individual person to find his or her own "purpose" that's why so many people struggle with the question of life. Ones " purpose" may be entirely different from everyone else's conceived notion of a purpose, but that doesn't make him or her wrong.
