Dude, paralyzed? Dead cold, C1-C2 is both very close to medulla oblongata, the place that stimulates automatic breathing, and literally every muscle that is even capable of making you breathe has its nerves starting below that level, meaning that they would get paralyzed as well. Not the best spot, especially to do bumps or taking any risk!

I read that only 5% survive his type of neck injury. To put that into perspective:
100 people break their neck like that, 5 people will survive. Out of those 5 people, 99% will end up paralyzed.
TK really did beat the odds.
Also here's a nice story while doing quick research: when TK was taken to a hospital better equipped for his type of injury the doctors were skeptical about his injury telling him 1% survive. Cesaro was with him & told the doctors "well, you don't know him, he could be the 1%"

Tyson has a Basilar neck injury, which happens in high impact car accidents and usually means instant death. It's the equivalent of pretty much being beheaded in terms of nerve damage. It is at the base of your brain stem. He was very...very lucky and it's not something to ever toy around with again. The fact he can still function in a normal life is a godsend. It's fantastic he can still be a part of what he loves without actually being in the ring.
Super interesting how he educated Stone Cold on how bad his was and why he had a different surgery. Because Stone Cold is smart on these things and it's just something he wanted more info on.

In case you don't know, the C1 and C2 are also known as the Atlas and Axis vertebrae. They control the movement and support of the head. If you notice, he has to move with more deliberation. Those are also the most dangerous ones to injure because they are anchor points for the spinal core and cerebral arteries.

No, the fact that he's still alive is top tier. The doctors told Tyson Kidd that his neck injury should've killed him instantly because the part of his neck that was broken controls his breathing. Most people would've suffocated on impact but it was nothing short of a miracle that he could still breathe and continue living.

Holy shit. It sounds like being able to walk, move his arms, BREATHE ON HIS OWN with this type of injury is nothing short of miraculous.
The doctors and surgeons who put this man back together have earned every cent of the money they make!

Kidd was extremely lucky to be even still be alive after that break/fracture. Let alone the fact that he's able to still walk and be able bodied. Breaks that high up in the spine are at the highest risk of damaging all the nerves that run right through there that basically run all your internal organs and muscles. Damage those, and your body stops being able to run things like your lungs, heart, etc.

Being a pro wrestler is a hellacious job. It takes a lot of grit to perform day in and day out and put your body/ life on the line, for not that great of pay. They deserve way more credit than they get, better pay and healthcare too. It’s tougher on the body than being a UFC fighter.

He was on fire before that injury such a shame. I’m happy he found peace and life after the ring.

It's tragic his career ended so abruptly. His tag team with Cesaro was one of my favorites and I feel like he could have at least gotten a solid run with the IC or US championship at some point.

Tyson won’t get the respect he deserves but people who really watch and know wrestling know how good he was and how good he could have been! But I know the women he works with love and respect him.

I remember hearing the news of what happened and was legit freaking out and worried about Tyson Kidd that was scary as heck tbh it was smart that the muscle buster got immediately banned and Samoa Joe hasnt used it since that moment it was a accident but that was way too close 😢

I had tumors removed from Spinal cord. They removed the vertebrate. I have a c1-t1 complete fusion. My doctors are amazed i still walk (barely but i can). It amazes what the body can go through these days. Good for Tyson. Continuing to work with his passion. He might not wrestle but still works in producing.
