Sting is the main and biggest reason why I became a wrestling fan as a kid. His early matches with blonde hair and colourful tights and moves blew me away Long Live the ICON STING
Bret Hart is my favorite wrestler. With that being said, he said that "nothing WCW did in 1997 could compare" to his angles in 1997: I respectfully disagree. Sting's evolution as the crow is the best story arch WCW ever did, and arguably the best in the business, period. I'd hate to use the over used u-word, but Bret's 1997 work is underrated, but the crow evolution was in a class by itself.
I almost expect a resurgence of Chuck Norris jokes but with Sting instead. Like... When Sting walks through the rain. He doesn't get wet. The rain gets Stung.
God forbid a WCW talent was more popular/ over than a WWE wrestler. Sting knew VINCE WOULD NEVER GIVE HIM A FAR SHAKE. THAT WHY HE DID NOT SIGN AFTER VKM PURCHASED WCW. AND WHEN HE DID SIGN WITH THE COMPANY....MANY YEARS LATER THEY SCREWED HIM....JUST LIKE HE KNEW THEY WOULD. SHOULD OF STUCK WITH HIS GUT FEELING. STING WILL FOREVER BE WCW. BAD MANAGEMENT & STUPID CONTRACTS, & HORRIBLE STORYLINES. DOOMED THE COMPANY. STEVE BORDEN AKA STING. WILL BE FOREVER LOVED BY MILLIONS THAT WATCHED HIM.
In all honesty, Sting would probably have died if he went to wwe in 2001. He was addicted to pain killers. He talks about this publicly, and stated that the time off saved his life.
Didnt watch the stinger much when i was a kid but i always knew of him. Glad i was able to see his actual retirement about 30 minutes from where i live
Darby said in an interview today that Stings son Stephen is now training to wrestle. (The one who wore the Wolfpack paint at sting’s retirement match and did those super high stinger splashes)
Black Crew Cut, No Paint Heel Sting would have been interesting... and on the level of Ripple Effects think of what that does to WCW's Booking for the next two years...
Sure but in the world of wrestling, they're treated as two different people. SCSA isn't the same entity as Stunning Steve. Sting also wrestled the Undertaker when he was Mean Mark Callous but the Icon never wrestled the Deadman.
I remember when sting started wrestling. Missy Hyatt and Eddie Gilbert brought sting age 18 and Rick Steiner age 19 in 1985 to original NWA and not long after they came near tag team champs.
And it don't say none of that now on the web. And have noticed a bunch of stuff been left out or changed. So you can't tell me that on sting. I seen NWA, awa, wccw, uwf, WCW which were pretty much the only ones round at that time. Then WWF/WWE bought uwf and NWA bought awa and wccw then in 1990 something WCW bought NWA. I should know cuz I seen.
We can sum up Sting's WWE tenure in one phrase: Vince was a petty bitch. Given how he turned the product around, I'm pretty damn confident that if Hunter had been charge back then, Sting would've been treated a helluva lot better. Sting was supposed to win Clash of Champions to make up for Wrestlemania but after the neck injury, Seth had to take the win. dun know about anyone else but Sting's a lot more forgiving and nonchalant about his WWE run than the rest of us, TBH. Darby Allin's my favorite of Sting's tag partners. Those two made magic and you can thank Darby for getting Sting into the ring on camera because he knew Sting could still go in front of a live audience at a time when they weren't sure if he could.
Number 12 just proves that Sting is one of the most legendary tag wrestlers ever. And yeah his WWE run wasn't the best but even there he had tag bouts with the likes of John Cena. And recency bias my favourite tag partner of Sting is Darby Allin.
I respect the fact that Sting didn't want to make the jump when WCW ended because he most likely would have been buried just like he was when he finally did show up. I can only imagine the amazing matches and interactions he could have had, had he been a part of the Invasion and they actually used him properly.
Honestly, I never wanted to see Sting bs 'Taker. I wanted to see Sting and 'Taker vs everyone else. Kane was great, but Sting was perfect to be 'Taker's in-ring other half. Their styles would have been perfectly complimentary, and Sting's faster pace and technical move set would have been the perfect balance to 'Taker's slower, more power based arsenal. Had they paired, and added Kane as a thord, they would have had the makings of an absolutely bonkers faction/stable.
@@stlfatman man, I used to fantasize about that pairing. I even made up storylines for them during the Corporate Ministry days, where Sting and 'Taker were pulling strings behind Vince's back, and were actually working to take him down. I was devastated when Sting went to TNA, instead of WWE, because I knew I'd never get to see it happen.
Ric Flair simply because while teaming up with Sting he did a double turn "during the f**king match" and the best part Sting actually believed that Ric won't betray him despite the writing being inevitable....... because it's Ric Flair
But his reaction was great, he got up immediately and grabbed Ric by the throat (he said he'd kill him if he DID just betray him) and gets attacked by Arn and Pillman, and the three-on-one commences; they had Sting giving Ric the benefit of the doubt (due to his upstanding character) yet did not make him act surprised, and as a result he came across as a hero, not an idiot. Flair still needed Arn and Brian to protect him, and this was one of the endless betrayals that eventually created the impetus for the Crow gimmick a year later...
If it wasn't for Sting, I probably wouldn't of ever cared about wrestling. It was always on and I never paid attention. Then WCW vs NWO Revenge came out, and the intro video to the game got my attention!
Sting wasn't the first choice for the lead role in Shutterspeed. The film went through a rough development over a few years. The original plot depicted the main protagonist meeting and falling for a woman named Betsy. They started dating right away and slept together. But the morning after, the protagonist was alone and went to Betsy's place to see her, only to be met by an old woman, who told him Betsy had been dead for 10 years. So he went on a journey to track her down and solve this mystery. Long before Sting got the lead role in Shutterspeed, Italian-American Actor Joey Tribbiani was cast as the main protagonist. But the money wasn't coming in, and by the time Tribbiani showed up on set, production had to close down, and he was left in the Las Vegas Desert.
sting did a commercial once for a wcw credit card "because money is no object." so he's like the million dollar man and spent wcw money because again money is no object. 😂
I'm glad I dropped the 50 bucks it took for me watch on Bleacher Report since I live nowhere near Greensboro. I was finally on time for something historic.
If Sting had gone to wwe right away he would have been jobbed out to Taker at Wrestlemania, HHH on PPV, and pretty much anybody else that was a big wwe name the.n. Not like he went there and got jobbed out to HHH at WM anyway, right?
The Taker and Sting are 2 of my favorite wrestlers. The Stinger is the only one who should've been allowed to end the Wrestlemania streak. The streak never should've ended but since it did, it should've been at the hands of an icon.
I became aware of Sting because of his TNA run. It was while Sting was in TNA that I became a Sting fan as well. I enjoyed all of it, even the stuff that wasn't as good. His WWE run was disappointing, but still awesome just to see Sting there. Long live the Icon, Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!
The Sting/Taker match had only ONE great possible ending. Some kind of finish that allowed fans of each to claim victory of their guy. Something like that Godzilla/King Kong ending from back in the day.
We all know that wrestling match between sting and triple h should have ended with sting winning. The writers mainly Vince McMahon probably wanted to have one last day at their biggest competition ever and if there was anybody that was deserving of a big victory in the eyes of the WCW fans it should have been sting
I like to think that Sting didn't beat up that child for the money in the Sprite advert, I want to believe that Sting kicked seven shades of shit out of him because it was both easy and fun. The money was just a little bonus.
kinda wish Sting did give WWE a big run. but i know that Sting did not want to sign a contract with WWE. WWE offered alot of money for Sting to sign a contract with WWE. but Sting did not do it. because he wanted to remain a free agent too sign on to any other independent circuit other then WWE.
I been watching wrestling for a very long time. So I know when I saw him brought to og NWA. And what was said. I don't know if the announcers was just lying or not but that is the age the announcers had announced in 1985.
10:34 SMH that's old C U Next Tuesday hated WCW so much that winning everything wasn't enough he had to buy their workers just to humiliate them and cost him money
His WWE run was so bad, they had the Icon Sting & managed to mess it up. He should’ve won at WM against Triple H & definitely should’ve beat Seth for the WWE title at Night of Champions.
The only one I didn't already know was the "greatest us champion vote" thing! But I call bulls**t on those votes though as Rick Rude should be up there as well for greatest US champ. He held the championship for over a year after beating Sting for the belt and had to relinquish due to injury, not being actually defeated for he belt And d-x as greatest tag champs? come on! As to best tag partner... possibly controversial but I'd go with Darby Allin nit only some great matches but Darby Allin is one of the few who didn't stab the Stinger in the back and/or feud with him!
If you ever watched sting in the 90's you followed his career and knew this stuff. Sorry what culture but you get a lot of stuff wrong and then state the obvious on the correct stuff.
Sting is the GOAT!!!!! Screw you for not knowing that. Rollins wasn't safe with Sting and injured his neck and put him out of wrestling. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!!

I'll forever be mad at Vince for how he treated WCW tops stars in 2001. We could have had Sting v Undertaker at WrestleMania 2002.
Not just Vince.
Triple H as well

Sting's contact was the reason for that. Vince McMahon had nothing to do with it. He even teased Sting on the simulcast on March 26, 2001.

"IT.S STING!!" 🦂
you forgot his most famous pre-WCW fame tag team with Rick Steiner (before he'd join scott in the The Steiner Brothers) in the UWF
For the time that I was into wrestling as an adolescent, Sting was my favorite.
Another fun fact that wasn’t mentioned: Sting was also a member of The Four Horsemen

Matt Damon was actually the third member with Warrior and Sting as the Ragin’ Bodacious Bros
He also met the other sting the musician/lead singer of the band the police 1:20 that's the other guy in this photograph.
Ready to Rumble was a damn good movie. Not a “mess”.
You forgot the video for Islander's "Crazy Crazy World"

Sting beat Austin so many times in WCW. It was like watching Brady vs. the NFL !
