Microsoft: We have an army.
Nintendo: We have a Reggie.
Geoff asks the tough questions. Its good that he interview's executives like this, it keeps them on their toes. Respect.

"The repeatabitily"
Reggie must've been tired as fuck.
REGGIE IS A BOSS LOL
He didn't dodge any questions, he just didn't give the answers people were expecting, but he still answered them appropriately. Reggie was actually very straightforward in admitting things like Wii U's poor sales.

I loved Reggies comments about DRM. It's great that someone still is targeting what consumers demand.
awww, E3 2013, we got 3 really memorable interviews from 3 different console company figures all by Geoff Keighley.
Don Mattrick: Fortunately we have a product for people without a stable net connection, it's called the 360.
Jack Tretton: *drops the mic*
Reggie Fils-Aime: PLAY. THE. GAMES.
It may have not been the best overall E3 but gosh dangit, Geoff Keighley did a hell of a job!
Well, if you haven't played mario games, how do you know if they are hardcore or not?
Tell me, which hardcore games have there been on Wii U, with a rating above 70 on metacritic, besides Zombi U and Batman Arkham City?
Jeff has no chill
"I'll have to smoke you in yet another game"
Does it have hd graphics, a majority of adult players, and serious characters?
I enjoy these interviews. Reggie, and the other Nintendo execs, are really cool people.
PLAY THE GAME
tbh this makes me sad to watch retroactively, cuz of how the wii u performed overall, but man Reggie really is good at what he did.
And oh my god... I feel like there has to be a bunch of wii u games that need to be rescued onto the switch still... I saw Wonderful 101 for Switch in a best buy a few weeks ago, and I feel kinda silly for not grabbing it haha, even tho it's already 8 years old somehow, I didn't realize it was wii u
This is a pretty epic interview.
You'd have to discuss that with wikipedia. Since you actually still haven't managed to post a single source that says otherwise.
This guy was so disrespectful to Reggie, I bet his body wasn't even ready.
Survivor14780 Gaming Channel As much as I love Nintendo and Wii U, he was just being honest to Reggie.
Man, that emoticon at the end of your comment was just the cherry on top of the obnoxious cake.
HOLY CRAP THAT THING GOES ON FOREVER.
I can't find any picture of it on google where it contains blood.
I must admit, Reggie handled the questions well.
I'm glad that the question about him being in Smash was asked too, actually.
Also, where are you getting this 99% from? Can you show me solid statistics that verify that claim? Or is that just what you feel the amount is?
Hello again, it's been awhile ;p
What do you think of games like Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Braid, Fez? Are those outdated 2D platformers? Albeit they're not full-priced.
Art style I would argue is so much more important than graphics. A good art style makes a game looks good even throughout the years.
Reggie is a very well trained speaker always has been. In the industry, game developers, studio execs, PR, or game people who have to deal with the press are given set answers to certain questions. PR train the interviewee to expect certain questions so they can deflect. Dealing with certain interviewers like Geoff Keighley, a person like Reggie is given information and a heads up on what the potential questions are and who the interviewer is.
All available or coming this year and 50% of those are exclusive on Wii U (+ maybe 3DS). You're welcome!
I like the way Geoff interviewed him, as a nintendo fanboy, because it's exactly like im feeling. And in my opinion he did it in a respectfull way
why is everything suddenly about the console and not about the games???
reggie what about the games for 2015 and 2016
There were plenty of them tbh...the Wii U was actually an incredible console with some amazing games.
In 2015 and 16 there was Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, Mario Party 10, *Splatoon* , Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pokken Tournament, Star Fox Zero, Mario & Sonic Olympics 2016, Paper Mario: Color Splash, and then there were probably other things I'm leaving out because those are just the ones I can remember from '15 & '16.
damn Geoff with a sick burn at the end
is that a sony tv in the background? lol
Can someone count the number of times Reggie says experiences?
A new challenger approaches!
Reggie is very satirical, fun and comedic in person. In the public eye he just focuses that towards the Nintendo brand.
"I'll have to smoke you in yet another game."
Reggie is amazing.
But the last sales figure for the past 3 months was just 160,000 units globally. 360 and PS3 are still selling in the millions.
Also surprisingly well is what in terms of Nintendo cutting down sales projections by a pretty significant margin just prior to that bundle? What bundles can they do at the end of the year which would trump bundles that the PS3/4 and XBox360/One can do?
The difference between EAD and SWWS is that SWWS is an umbrella for all Sony development studios, EAD is an umbrella for many of their teams, not all. My point was that they both contain teams that develop exclusively for their owners and that they are both within their respective companies.
My body is ready to play the game
reggis is a master at dodging questions
How?
I don't really mind if they delay a game. If they feel that their product is not ready they should not release.
and what makes a game hard core guns and blood? sry thats inmature
You've been constantly discussing this for 1 FREAKING week without any breaks at all and you tell me (who discuss occasionally) that I'm all over the place?
Can't argue with that statement. Well played.
That's because "every question" was in truth only one question packed in different words.
4:25, love the way Reggie almost laughed when he said are you worried about XBone.
The graphics changed amazingly, the third one was very dynamic and good looking. Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time both had the same video/DVD graphics and that was 13 years and 2 generations in between
He just didn't let Reggie get away with any bullshit. This was actually quite an informative interview because of that.
and just for the record, straight from wikipedia i pasted the following:
"Wario World was a commercial success, selling over 142,000 copies"
They seem to be setting things up the same way. Nintendo stated they're not doing a price drop for the Wii U, but they also said the same thing about the 3DS back then, probably for the same reason as last time too. I'd say some bundles wouldn't hurt either. The Monster Hunter bundle in Europe sold surprisingly well from what I heard.
Did you ever here of the X game? :/
when did sammy sosa start working for nintendo?
@1:37 The same Wii Fit crowd ain't gonna come back and buy your WiiU bro.
We know damn well Wii U is in the backburner lol... rip
8:38 "PLAY THA GAMES". "i'd love to play smash bros, it's not here" LOL
I don't know how many times you wanna go over this again... I said: Not everybody only makes games of money, there mre many developers who make an effort out of their games and it's especially on 360 and PS3, Wii u don't offer any of this. DO you have some kind of problem with that fact?
Then you're also talking about how specs-wise the WiiU is on par with the 360 and PS3, but is more than/ just as much as the PS3 and 360 (depending on the SKU of those). It doesn't have the library of games both have nor the support of 3rd parties (yet). What it does have, which is good, is at least some disc-based backwards compatibility.
Nice shot, but I'll concede this point if you answer this: Both Red Lobster and Olive Garden are owned by Darden Restaurants. If I look at Olive Garden's menu, made by OLIVE GARDEN employees, am I reading a Darden Restaurants menu made by Darden, or an Olive Garden menu made by Olive Garden? If I do the same at Red Lobster, is it a Red Lobster menu with Red Lobster meals, or is it a "Darden's Seafood" menu with Darden's meals, which just happen to be seafood cause of where I'm eating?
Agreed, I love my Vita, even though I'm a little starved for games at the moment. Hopefully they'll bring out some more hits.
So... in your theory if a game has no online mode, then it can't be hardcore??? then no game released before the dreamcast can't be a hardcore game???
I'm a little confused about something, people like to criticize Wii about rehashing old franchises, but no one criticizes Sony or Microsoft about re-used franchises like Call of Duty, Assassins creed, Splinter Cell, Halo 1-4 and the spin offs, Uncharted and the list goes on and on.
Am I misunderstanding it, or are all the platforms reusing franchises?
Anyone get the hidden message at 9:44? XD
I'm expecting a price cut at some point. I think it's also worth noting that the Vita actually has some success in Europe and Japan. Not much, of course, but it's not doing as bad as most people think it is (still nothing close to good though). The strange thing is that the Vita, despite being a handheld, took longer to reach a million sales in Japan than the Wii U did. Handhelds generally tower over consoles in sales there. Dunno if this speaks worse for the Vita or better for the Wii U, so eh.
What exactly has CoD done that is a huge change?
Hey guys, I'm sensing some tension here. Might be the high pitched, strained voices but I don't know.
I wasn't only talking about graphics and I was making the argument that better hardware makes it "easier" for developers to solely worry about the game and experience of the game without having to worry about so much about restrictions of hardware.
Ok, I think I understand your point. But I'm now curious about something else, of all of the major franchise games that Nintendo has been releasing, has any of them not sold well? As far as I knew every Zelda game, mario game ect has sold very well and are well received by the fans. Wouldn't it make sense to keep doing them?
Other than that your right, Nintendo has been doing it longer than Sony or Xbox.
Sonic has some push power, I'd say. Like I said, it would take a library of games to help sell a system, and Sonic will likely deliver as an appealing title (especially since there was a commotion similar to Bayonetta 2 that occurred when Nintendo mentioned their partnership with Sega and the exclusive Sonic games). Problem with Titanfall and Destiny is that they're available on the current gen systems as well. They may help sell systems, but they don't seem major for the XB1 or the PS4.
It sold amazingly...
You can use the same character if the character is popular, recognized and well-liked. It's called a mascot. If I can't count the mobile and handheld games for CoD and only count the main CoD games, then why should I have to count the Mario games other than the Super Mario games?
This guy can persuade anyone.
My body is ready!
"People look at all the previous games and maybe they say look at all these games coming maybe they're gonna delay them again" - Geoff
"We've been very specific in launch dates and when these games are coming, so our track record is pretty good, so when we say a game is coming in a specific period of time Nintendo's track record is pretty good" - Reggie
Lies, DK got delayed twice first it was scheduled for November then they changed it to December then they changed it to February, its been seven months and its still not out yet.
"We've been very specific in launch dates" Smash Bros = 2014, Bayonetta 2014, Mario Kart 8 = 2014.
im pretty sure both are being published by Nintendo, I know for a fact Bayonetta is
That's good to hear. Finally you admit that.
Oh sure it sold. I bought a copy. You just can't be online with other players more then 3 minutes without errors.
I remember the preorders for the Wii U got so high that Gamestop had to take a waitlist for preorders. I don't doubt that the other consoles are getting high preorder sales, but people with more experience than myself have told me it's nothing new, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt at the moment. I'm more concerned about the stability of the upcoming systems. A repeat of the RROD that the 360 had would be terrible. I still don't know how the 360 managed to get through it unscathed.
Only time will tell. The second half of the year is bound to be pretty interesting. Nintendo is dishing out some of their largest IPs on handheld and console and MS/Sony are entering their consoles into the race. I'm still waiting on TGS before I can say anything more on the PS4. After how MS handled themselves, I think Sony doesn't have to worry too much about many of the regular gamers, but their lack of Japanese games might hurt them at home. XB1's tv features might help it a lot, honestly.
Considering the PS4 and XB1 versions of Destiny, Titanfall, and Watchdogs are the premier versions and would probably be the best place to experience the game, I would say they are major. I know that Respawn is focusing their entire development team on the XB1 version and another team is doing the 360 and PC versions.
Look forward to a dog-frisbee game for moms and grandmas hahahahahahaha
Dorito pope hurt reggies feelings and still lives to see another day lol
The best part is that you just know Reggie could crush this guy's skull with his stare.
reggie is friggin amazing
Sony is the developer of some of their games as well. And you were saying that these other companies don't also make their software. SCEA or SSM are just different divisions under Sony. Nintendo EAD is a different division under Nintendo. Naughty Dog is owned fully by Sony, but is like Retro a subsidiary of their respective company. It's also like Rare which is fully owned by MS.
Haha.. he brought up Vitality Sensor. That piece of vaporware. I love Geoff.
And most regular people still don't know that the WiiU is really a thing. More people are aware of the XB1 and PS4 coming out at the end of this year than they are of the WiiU. Yes, there will be shared ports, but as soon as the differences between versions is realized and if they are very noticeable, people will move on to the next console. Using a graphical example, the Watchdogs version for next gen and current gen is huge to say the least.
An Ambassador program would certainly work with the Wii U if they pull it off just right. 3DS had NES and GBA games, so the Wii U equivalent should include gamecube games. But anyways, the Wii U's benefit compared to the Vita is that the Vita is actually getting more software in Japan right now, which would help explain sales. As far as NA sales go though, Wii U has been catching up to the Vita despite the year difference between the two. Ultimately, they both sell when games come out for them.
What is EAD's relationship with Nintendo then? Is it to develop games for Nintendo?
SWWS didn't acquire every studio under it, some were there way before like Sony Santa Monica and Team Ico.
They're employees, but that's a technicality of working for a company that has been acquired. Like I said, if you make an Olive Garden menu, you aren't making a menu for Darden Restaurants. You're making a menu for Olive Garden, which is under Darden Restaurants. Sony, in relation to SCE WWS, is like Darden Restaurants.
Sony Santa Monica and the SCE Japan branch are peculiar, but I don't think they invalidate my point. If that were the case, Retro would be a part of EAD...but it isn't.
yes i do agree with you that they should make more ips but they have made ips since pikmin some big examples are pandoras tower, xenoblade, battlion wars, and the last story also their new ip is currently wonderful 101
I think that one is either 1st or 2nd party. But I'd like to think that's one of those games people might by the Wii U for.
And how of much of that install base actually bought games for the Wii? It was a known fact that most games other than Nintendo games did not sell well on the Wii despite the large install base. And you are saying I did not say. All I'm saying is that due to the missteps of Nintendo for the WiiU, the PS4 and XB1 will more than likely sell at a higher and accelerated rate than the WiiU. If you look at sales numbers of WiiU, they are lower than Wii, PS3, and 360. For a new system that is bad.
The story might be the same, but I'm pretty sure the gameplay has progressed with each release. I'm not an expert as I've only viewed the games over a friends house, but it doesn't seem to me that the gameplay has stagnated in them.
You do make some interesting points, and I'm interested in seeing what Nintendo has to offer going into december, since the X game that the Xenoblade team is working on looks amazing. I'm leaning towards buying a wii u after seeing that.
Reggie and miyamoto, kickin asses and taking names ( I ) C/
the questions do represent some consumers' question which is simply: does the wii u want to set aside from the competition with nintendo games and have its own thing? or does it want to compete and sell more than xb1 or ps4? For one, Nintendo fans buy the system, but will pc gamers do that, xbox/ps ppl that, will the casual market do that? If Nintendo doesn't convince these guys, the wii u sales will end up as best like gamecube unless they use the gamepad properly.
I love the expresion of Reggie.
They did make a Wario World game on GameCube. It didn't do so well.
