We have a legal immigration system, one that works when enforced at all our other borders and ports of entry. The problem is, and always has been the fact that the southern border is open land for miles with little to no enforcement of immigration regulations. We could have the perfect immigration system in the world and would still have this crisis as there will always be people seeking to enter this country but would be turned back, and to not risk it they just do anything they can to circumvent going through the process and having to obey the rules and laws and wait their turn. We cannot take in all of South America as well as from other countries world wide who know they can get across in the south without having to go through any formal procedures. There were finally signs that we were getting control of our southern border, and then the administration changed and we were hit with a flood of people who had not tried to come in illegally as they knew it would not work, who now make the trip saying this new president will let them in. Biden is supposed to put the US and US citizens first, but if her would rather ignore the voters north of the southern border and care for those south of it perhaps he should go be president in one of those countries. How can we hope to get a handle on covid and other transmittable diseases if we have these events on our border? I would recommend we get people involved in this situation. By that I mean, a peace corp body of people able to be trained to assist. Why is this solely on the US? It should not be put solely on the US government. It’s sad and these people deserve good lives.
We have a legal immigration system, one that works when enforced at all our other borders and ports of entry. The problem is, and always has been the fact that the southern border is open land for miles with little to no enforcement of immigration regulations. We could have the perfect immigration system in the world and would still have this crisis as there will always be people seeking to enter this country but would be turned back, and to not risk it they just do anything they can to circumvent going through the process and having to obey the rules and laws and wait their turn. We cannot take in all of South America as well as from other countries world wide who know they can get across in the south without having to go through any formal procedures. There were finally signs that we were getting control of our southern border, and then the administration changed and we were hit with a flood of people who had not tried to come in illegally as they knew it would not work, who now make the trip saying this new president will let them in. Biden is supposed to put the US and US citizens first, but if her would rather ignore the voters north of the southern border and care for those south of it perhaps he should go be president in one of those countries. Maybe he would be happier then as he certainly does not care about the US citizens

We have such extremes in ideas about what is happening. Most of the information is frightening. The lives of children is the first horror. The payment of huge sums to coyotes is another. Any criminal behavior is possible under these conditions.
I don't have answers. I just have a lot of questions. How can we hope to get a handle on covid and other transmittable diseases if we have these events on our border?
I would recommend we get people involved in this situation. By that I mean, a peace corp body of people able to be trained to assist. Is there a short intensive course we can design to equip ourselves to assist in processing all of these people compassionately? Americans can be so incredible in dire circumstances. We can also be monsters. It is a huge national crisis that could make covid 19 look like a birthday party.
