Famed Hollywood Mountain Lion Captured After Attacking Dogs

- Hollywood's celebrity mountain lion has been captured. Wildlife officials announced they finally caught the famed lion known as P-22 thanks to his tracking collar. He was captured in a resident's backyard after being shot with tranquilizer darts. The famous lion was once a beloved fixture in the Hollywood Hills. However, that all changed after P-22 made his way into residential neighborhoods and attacked several dogs.
The reason why he became more aggressive is that as he got older, he couldn't compete for food against the stronger and younger cougars.
Facts
not actually true; he has been isolated from other cougars by freeways and it's somewhat of a miracle he has lived in such a small range and in such an urban place as long as he has. maybe, though, it is becoming harder for him to hunt wild prey as he gets older so he is resorting to easier to kill pets
Normally this would be true. Not in this case. He was cutoff from all other cougars by highways etc. Getting older and slower definitely changed his behaviors but he was not competing with any other cougars.
I say that’s a fair assessment.
Then they shouldn't release in another area. He'll have a better chance in the sanctuary
Can't blame the mountain lion. It's not easy finding food in the wild. And humans encroach and bring easy prey and you expect a mountain lion to not act upon its natural instincts? I feel bad for the mountain lion for trying to survive in our presence.

I think a sanctuary is probably the best option. Anywhere they try to relocate him to he is going to be out of context and extremely stressed and will find it difficult to hunt and look after himself in a completely unfamiliar territory. I'm not saying a sanctuary will be any less stressful for him, but at least he can be looked after while he adapts to his surroundings.
Following this story to see what ends up happening to him!

Also, keep in mind he’s 12 which is extremely old for a wild cougar. It’s best for him to be sent to the animal sanctuary because he’s too old and now unfit for the wild. He’ll continue to harm small dogs and children which will cause more problems than him being sent to where he can be wild and be looked after during his final years
This is a lie. We all loved him and still do.I live in Los Feliz, the area that P22 would come frequently at night. For 10 years we never saw him. Then more and more our neighbors would catch him on our ring cameras at 3 in the am. This month is the first time in 10 years he is ever attacked a dog. It's apparent he's getting too old to hunt coyotes. We all love him and hope him the best.
A few people don’t love him as much. It’s clear he can’t hunt the faster, wilier prey anymore, so he’s targeting pets. Hopefully, he’s healthy enough to go to a sanctuary, or protected area, or it will turn out he just needs dental work to get him back into coyote fighting shape.

It’s entitled “A Eulogy for P-22, A Mountain Lion Who Changed the World.” Here is a small excerpt: “I write this eulogy while looking across one of the ten-lane freeways P-22 somehow miraculously crossed in 2012, gazing at a view of his new home, Griffith Park. Burbank Peak and the other hills that mark the terminus of the Santa Monica Mountains emerge from this urban island like sentinels making a last stand against the second largest city in the country. The traffic noise never ceases. Helicopters fly overhead. The lights of the city give the sky no peace. Yet a mountain lion lived here, right here in Los Angeles. I can’t finish this sentence without crying because of the past tense. It’s hard to imagine I will be writing about P-22 in the past tense now….” 😽🌈🙏😇🤍
Will a vet be looking into P22? Dogs aren't exactly a regular item on the menu for big cats, so it might be that P22 has poor dentals or some other cause that has been making him change diet. Age is a factor, or course, but it's a good idea to give him a health exam before sending him into the hills.
mountain lions eat coyotes it prob thought the dogs were weird looking coyotes
The dogs were small prey to a mountain lion. The lion didn't know.😪 But with his age, it's best for someone to care for it.
Big cats have excellent tracking skills. If they release it back into the hills, eventually they will find their way back. It sucks but it's best for someone to care for it in the rest of its golden years.
I’m sure they’re going to give him an exam in addition to testing for diseases. His health will probably determine whether he gets relocated, sent to a sanctuary, or euthanized.
Thank you for not killing him.

Maybe stop developing houses in these animals territories... where else do you expect this cat to hunt for food when you moved into it's backyard lol.

Omg the screams of that poor dog!
There were early reports that he was possibly hit by a car, but no word of any injuries, or even any signs of him being hit. But I'm wondering if that's why they're not sure whether he will go to a sanctuary, or be rereleased into the wild.

*Honestly thought when they labelled P-22 as a "Hollywood mountain lion," I thought they meant he was an animal actor.* 🤦♂️
Isn't that what it means?
what did they expect the mountain lion to do? stay in the woods to be burned alive?
People keep building homes farther away from the city and then complain about the wildlife, fires and gas prices due to the commute.
A Mountain Lion gets relocated after attacking a few Dogs but a Pitbull gets a free pass to Maul as many Dogs,Kids,Seniors or Delivery Drivers as it wants.
free pass where? those dogs get put down immediately.

I hope he was getting those little loud Gucci bag toting things.
I do not know why he’s acting like that P22 ate the koala’s zoo years ago.
I'll bet that lion's family was there for many generations more than the people that live there now.
First the native Americans, now the animals. How DARE they try to survive.
Reign of terror and stalking for years? The people living near P22's territory actually like him. Wtf is she talking about?
It was looking for food, you can't blame it for trying to survive. Aging animals have to go after easier prey.
I'm glad they captured him without harming him however I don't understand why dog owners want to play the victim it's not the mountain lion's fault that you don't know how to own a dog you just let your dog off a leash and let it walk away from you that's no different than letting a child walk away from you and then getting picked up and by Stranger in a vehicle or a van or white van it's called irresponsibility...!!! Wildlife being protected speak to yourself the very fact the lion is wandering in the city proved that it had lost its habitat to the humans. Wheres the wildlife being protected?

Hunting Dog for food? Yes! Attacking dog for fun? No.
Being an older male, relocating him would be a death sentence, another cougar would probably kill him. Plus, he would be in unfamiliar territory.
Perhaps a nice retirement in a quiet sanctuary where he could live out his days well fed and stress free would be the kindest thing.
We learned a lot from P-22.
The least we could do is let him retire and live in peace, free from traffic, hunger, and stress.
agreed, it's the best option at this point
I support P22. That was his block. They should have kept their chihuahua in the house. Bring back P22
That sound made me cry
Poor animal. Now he will live the rest of his life in captivity. Food could have been becoming scarce in his territory if he ventured into these residential areas.
TBH don't like them giving them aggressive tendencies. It's a wild animal with natural instincts. What's aggressive to us is their way of life. The necessity for food, and aging all come into play with this behavior. They should be giving those examples as well instead of calling P-22 a terror or former beloved(idolization of an animal is weird). I'm not excusing the animal's behavior but providing why P-22 acted the way it did. I hope those dogs make a swift recovery. Again, they should've done this way sooner as a wild animal is still a wild animal, especially near communities.
