Thanks for doing all these. I know to you it was more about your late Grandpa, but as an owner of an S10 it really helps me get an idea of what to expect, and what it looks like going through my truck. Really enjoying these. Subbed and all!
Wonder why they didn't just put disk brakes on all models instead of this complicated drum system lol disk brakes are a lot easier and more efficient. Think about just buying a axle from a model that has rear disk brakes and swapping the whole axle out and just make new brake lines for the disk brakes to work lol
Am I ever happy that my 2001 S-10 has disk brakes all around. I remember working on drum brakes back in the day and they were a pain. Way too many moving part to remember where they all go. After you do a few in a row it starts to get a bit easier but not by much..
Don't feel bad I got a 1973 cutlass I put new shoes and wheel cylinders on the car and didn't pay attention to the shoes and put both same shoes on the same side cause you have a primary and secondary shoe they don't tell you when get the new parts in the box keep up all the good videos
Awesome I'd Love to hear the rant on parts quality (or lack thereof) :) What a struggle, just for grins they change the colors of the springs as an added challenge exercise.. Don't ya hate when you know you have the specialty tool and can't seem to locate it....Probably last seen in the early 2000s... Thanks for the great vid
We had to turn down the back of some rotors not too long ago to get them to work on one of our trucks. I don't understand how people are installing these bad parts. We have a lathe but I am sure most people don't have access to stuff like that. Some of the springs were heavier than what came off. That made things difficult to install. Not sure why they do that. I think we loaned that tool to someone and they never brought it back. That is one reason we have the "No Tools Loaned" on our pegboard. It's expensive to buy all these tools and then someone borrows them and never brings it back. Not to mention we then don't have the tool when we need it.
mossman381 , thank you for this video. I had the exact problem with 2 new sets of shoes, one from Napa the other from AutoZone. I did your solution and it works but I need to take even more metal off the front shoe to get a bigger clearance. Chainsaw files work great for this task but take a lot of time. What a joke buying new parts then having to modify them just make it fit and work like it should from the beginning. I was going insane trying to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. The test of leaving the flat bar out confirmed what was going on. I want to be able to move that falt bar at least 1/8 inch with all the springs in place. Have you had any problems with the brakes since the video? Thank you again. I hate drum brakes
I don’t like drum brakes either. Too much work for little stopping power Too much to adjust and if you adjust too much you have another issue on the road. I can do them but prefer disc brakes. Sooo much easier and for better gain.
They started to go away from drum brakes then GM decided to cheapen up the trucks again and they started putting drums on. I don't know what the new stuff has but I would think they have gotten completely away from drums by now.
mossman381 Actually my uncle was telling me some trucks after 2000 not sure exactly what years but this was only a few years ago from what he told me. That the discs were wearing fast on the backs, that GM was putting Drum brakes on again. Just googled it there are 2011 Silverados with drum brakes.
Hey. I just came across your channel. I like what you have going on. I subbed your channel so I can keep up with what you have going on. Drop around to the Dog House and see the trouble that I get into. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, The hint about getting new parts kit made the job for me much easier and I felt more confident that the job was done right. s10s are great trucks, I only hate the rust.

Great video. I have to do the same job on my '95 Suburban. Should be basically the same. Great info. Thanks!!

@@kevinanglin678 .the reason is because of the production cost
Vice-Grips makes taking all the springs off much easier. Just did mine. Only tool I used to get everything off
Loved the bloopers at the end Randy haha. Another great video!
I figured some would like those.

Yup, you have to be careful with where the shoes go. Pics of the assembly before taking them apart can be very helpful.
Thank you very much for a great video
Awesome

No problems with the brake mods. "New" parts are awesome these days.
Can you show us how to covert it to disk breaks next?
Probably won't be doing disc brakes on this truck.
Damn... whatever I'm getting probably will have drums on the back...
It would have been nice if you could have cleaned everything up a little so we could see what spring goes where 🤦
Love the dif just open
What side was you working on 1st

You should have replaced the axle seal prior to the brakes
Can I just leave that flat spacer out period I don't need a parking brake

Take the pins out first it is tremendously easier
Point the damn camera straight so people can see geeZ
