It's so cool that one zone has three forms between acts. First, we have the outside of the base Then, we get INSIDE the base After, we get to..... you know....... And then finally the final boss of the game
Sonic Mania does this too in Titanic Monarch. On the first act, you're outside the robot, then on the second act, you go into the robot, and i think you're trying to destroy it. Then on the third act (even though it says act 2) you fight the core heart of the robot, Robotnik's bouncy thing.
This is an odd memory to associate this song with, but I was once dumped over a text while playing through scrap brain zone. I was broken hearted, but I still played through the level, teary eyed and all because this was my first time making it to this level, and I was determined to beat it. As a result.. I find this song to be very melancholy, an odd memory. Just thought I’d share it.

This game does a good job at showing how eggman has industrialized or urbanized the land of South Island, and how everything was once connected. So we start off with green hill zone, a very green, lush grassland, with beautiful flowing rivers, Then we have marble zone that shows signs of life forms existing there, but a lot of the signs are just ruins, but the land itself is still heavily forested, possibly being connected to the savanna system of green hill. The zone also has large purple mountains, which is also similar to the maintains seen in spring yard! Were they connected? It may be that way because spring yard still retains some of its flora and mountain ranges. After spring yard we enter the labyrinth, a watery cave that could be connected to green hill zones main river. After labyrinth, starlight zone. A heavily urbanized area with large buildings and highways. The highways are covered in street lamps, indicating that people do live there. Then we get to eggmans main factory after he has slowly built his way through South Island. Scrap brain is scattered with electric posts, lasers, and fire. It is a large metal factory that has conveyor belts, and pipes. It is truly eggmans max industrialized area.
It Also has a Time-line,Sonic Starts in Green Hill at 10AM-12AM,Marble Zone at 12-3 PM,Sping Yard Zone at 3PM-5PM,Labyrinth Zone at 6-8PM, Starlight at 8PM-6AM And Scrapbrain at 6-7AM,The Final Phase Maybe At 7-9AM Because of Back to Green hill zone it's 10AM Again
Because it represents Robotnik’s industrial empire, which literally takes life and turns it into inorganic material. If you want to put it poetically, this is where innocent life goes to be polluted or die outright

the music sounds scary for me because when first time being a sonic fan, I started watching sonic.exe videos before the normal sonics, and I watched Knuckles place the "you can't run" and it was taken in scarp brain zone, and until when I started playing normal sonic games, I played scrap brain zone and it is exactly where it was taken, so I got scared, with the music, because of the sonic.exe, the normal sound of scrap brain zone for me is scary. Luckily, I've been a sonic fan already 1 year ago.
Ok, from a gameplay perspective, act 3 is horrible, but from a story perspective, it’s the perfect ending. It’s the best representation of Robotniks lack of care for nature. He literally built OVER untouched ancient ruins just to build his empire, destroying an ecosystem and infecting it with his presence. Things like the dull color pallet to the comically toxic looking purple water just truly show how little he cares.

Sonic was definitely a lot harder back then, I beat Sonic 2's final boss with no problem, Sonics first final boss however felt a bit more difficult, I guess the Sonic bosses were always easy like that.
