And us specifically, the reason we did this was obviously to be in support with those student groups and those campuses. But we also want to support our own divestment campaigns here on campus. So the divestment campaign is basically our demands are basically to
divest the University of Minnesota from its manufacturing companies that bomb places that create weapons, that bomb places like Yemen, Palestine, Gaza, to be specific, and all other countries around the globe.”

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of students erected yurts and tents on the University of Minnesota campus as part of a protest against Israeli military action in Gaza. They also demanded university administrators divest from companies providing weapons and other support to Israel.
“So the reason we decided to do it was one is other campuses across the United States-Columbia, Yale, NYU, that are doing similar encampments, they're basically upping the stakes now for the divestment campaigns that they're planning,” said university student and Students for Justice in Palestine member Adam Abu-Tay.
Earlier in the day, campus police dismantled an encampment erected overnight by protesters.
