I guess that muslim women are ONLY FREE to dress as they please in democratic Secular and progressive societies!?...And guess where those are!?? Ilove to look at all those marxist islamist women in Iran that are free to dress as they wish...by the law of the Iranian State! I also like to see how jews and christians can dress and are free to exercise their Marxist right to dress and practice their religion as they want! They are talking about being in the US so we have to use the American definition of naked. Women are not allowed to go out in public naked. Here in the US it is against the law for man or woman to be naked in public. It goes to show just how un American she is. If your confused here naked means without clothing, all clothing, showing all of ones body from head to toe.
I agree a woman can be covered....but assimilation is how you become American....not through isolation.....look at the black community they isolate themselves in ghettos, and because of this they become violent. Leaves me to believe if you wanted to hold on to your great customs, then why not remain where you were? I feel one flees a country to start a new life, and welcome in new customs....this means you would want to fit in....this means you abandon the old ways to an extent to fit in more.

I´ve heard all of these "muslim feminism" before and they are true only in the west! This is a sort of muslim/islamic "Marxism" done mostlly by western new converts because many of the religious assylum seekers flee those countries because they dont wish to dress like that because THEY ARE FORCED TO DO SO, under Sharia, AND THEY WOULD BE PUNNISHED for "being naked"!

It's on video coming from a student attending a Islamic school that they are being taught Sharia law and didn't have a clue on what Federal and State law was. I find that to be a big problem because it's telling the kids that our laws don't mean shit, that only Sharia law matters.

I'm East African Christian and we wear head scarf, especially the older generation. We especially wear head scarf in church, weddings, baptism & holidays, but most young generation are ignoring this traditions.

I'm from Eritrea, 50% Christian and 50% Muslims and the people live at peace toghether. Even during Easter and Christmas, Muslims artist will perform at an Christian event and Christians artist perform at Muslim events during Ramadan. However, I do notice the separation of Eritreans living in the western countries, Mulsims Eritreans only associate with Muslims and Christian Eritrean with Christians, but it is not like that back home, it all love. Don't believe what you see on the tv or the media, it's all politics and incorrect information. Btw, many of East Africans have Middle-Eastern blood (either Jew or Arab) because many of our ancestors migrate to East African and mixed with the Africans (interracial marriage). As a black Muslim the most hate I've ever received was from other non-black Muslims, I've been treated as a human being by mostly non Muslims. I like the religion but hate the people in it unfortunately.

I'd rather hear about their stance on Sharia law and the Hadith in relation to US laws. If they admit it has no place in a nation of Liberty, then they are not really Muslim since the two cannot coexist. If they wear the hijab _only_ for identity, then it's really no different than getting a tattoo, making it merely a fad that will socially dissipate on its own.
Quite frankly, as long as people live within the confines of the law and all the Constitution brings then there is no special interest in who they are as individuals. But something tells me they view that as the greatest insult of all.

I don't agree with the hadiths or Sharia law. I wear a headscarf for modesty, as my Catholic grandmothers used to. The laws in this great country are perfect, only man distorts them at times.

The word hijab is being used incorrectly here. Khimar is the actual word for the head covering. Hijab is the word used for the full Muslim woman's dress which must be loose & long while covering all skin (except that of the the face and hands). Some only wear the khimar with tight and/or revealing clothes below it. This is NOT hijab. Hijab actually means curtain or partition. Hijab protects a woman's dignity and self respect by placing a curtain or partition between herself and the eyes of men. When a man looks at a woman wearing hijab he is forced to focus on her face, not her private body parts.

Of course many Muslim women living in the free world are able to chose whether or not to wear the hijab, because it is a free country, and in many cases their parents emigrated to escape the oppression of Islam. However if they went back to their country of origin they would be forced to wear it, and would suffer ostracism and sometimes severe punishment for not wearing it. It is my opinion that women in the west who wear it are disrespecting their sisters back home who are forced to wear it. I spoke to a Muslim woman yesterday wearing a hijab on a bus which had broken down, because she didn't understand what was happening. When the replacement bus arrived and I followed her to the door, she stopped and stood aside for me to go out first. She obviously did that because I was man, and she felt that men must go first. I felt that was so wrong, and being an English gentleman, I insisted that she should go first.

Well in Egypt the wife must ask the husband for permission to leave the country. I know because I am from Egypt originally. In Egypt when I lived there women did not wear the Hijab. That came in the 70s'. And some are pressured to wear it.

Yes fashion by association is a form of 'Stocklom syndrome" but in the present control religious power of women, the non understanding of the meaning makes women become even more victim by believing that they are not and will gladly adopt their opressors control. Just study what the syndrome is and you might understand my comment. To push the envelope further we are all in a certain way victim of it.

Fine , wear a covering for your hair, yet if a police officer needs to identify a person......the hair covering must be removed for proper identity. And if entering a federal bldg the women must remove their covering to simplify the officers inspection for an identity match and weapons hidden in the hair covering. It is unreasonable to expect the officers to touch and feel around the hair covering for such things as non-metal weapons.
