    *ARE YOUR SPEAKERS TIMBRE MATCHED?*

    • @fomoontech8217
      @fomoontech8217 5 лет назад +8

      Nope. Your ears lose their timbre resolution for sounds overhead and behind. It’s all about the front LCR matching, the others are strictly governed by placement and dynamics: are they properly placed relative to the MLP and can they go as loud as your LCR/Sub? Timbre is completely irrelevant. Remember that mixing engineers route ALL dialogue through the front LCR, and only environmental effects through surrounds for immersion. Timbre matched rain drops from above are not noticeable. Timbre matched creaking floors? Nope. Complete waste of money when el cheapo Elac surrounds will sound indistinguishable from surrounds costing 10x more if you’re not listening at THX reference levels (99% of HT consumers)

      I'm using a combination of my previous first 5.1 setup and (Polk 10" sub, 4x satellites for surround) and Klipsch RPii-series LCR - RP600Miis and RP-504Cii - and RP-series heights - 4x RP500SAs - and 12" sub. The subs are stacked on top of each other. Eventually I'd like to get matching subs and replace the surrounds. but I'm restricted in terms of physical space and financial ability.

    Oh no Shane I have been pronouncing that word wrong for over two decades. At least I have always went with same brand and same product line for over twenty years. I agree and do think it makes a huge difference in the overall blending of surround movement in your sound field. Thanks for a great and informative video. I will take cheaper speakers that are same product line rather than non-timbre matched high end speakers anyday. Obviously high end timbre matched is the ideal.

    My System is 6.1 but only the front left and right and rear left and right match each other. The rear left and right are from a sony HT-RT3 soundbar (because they are small sattelites which I needed), Front left and right speakers are Sony floor standing speakers , the rear center is from a Logitech X540 PC speaker system and the front center is a Tannoy. So its all over the place LMAO. If I could buy a full set that match with small rears (smaller than bookshelf) then I would buy it.
    The reason for the missmatch is that my living room is only 12' long by 11' wide and theres a corner window (two windows in an L shape) in the back left so I had to put the rear speakers up high , but I will be changing the Sony floor standing speakers for Tannoys that match the center channel.

    if i was to build a surround system i would get 4 bookshelf speakers of same type, it enough with 4 speakers for me, but adding a center channel if same type would be easy since they are small enough to fit near screen and it is same orientation. cant beat same speakers for timbre matching.
    i think having 2 driver speakers is best for this since the tweeter is close to the screen if you dont have it behind. MTM get a bit tall for that use. i would bet that ARENDAL SOUND 1723 BOOKSHELF S THX would do just nicely.
    the subwoofer setup would be something to think about here, can't just plug in the subwoofer to LFE channel because then the smaller speakers would not get the benefit from subwoofer all the time but only on LFE content.(as far as i know how receivers work)

    Here’s a question that is somewhat related but related to power amps.
    What’s your opinion on whether or not there is a noticieable impact when using a certain brand & make of amplifier to power your FL-C-FR and another brand & make for the surrounds?
    Have you been in such a configuration before, and if so, what were your observations?
    I’m asking because I planned on first upgrading my front stage amp (to cover music and movies) and keeping my current 5-channel amp (of different brand and lower power specs) for surrounds until I can afford to purchase the one to match the front, but I’m scared that the sound signature will be “disjointed” when going from speaker to speaker. (Kind of like what you explained in this video). 🤔
    Thoughts?

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  5 лет назад

      You may notice depending how much more powerful your new amp will be compared to the old one. It’ll also depend on your listening levels and how resolving your speakers are. Of course how well your hearing is will be important too.
