You could say that about USA backed when the British were controlling there. And yet the USA people refused to do thosed bad things, figured ways to get arms and then over threw them! So do not tell me as how they are not bad because only they were forced to do terrible things to their owned people.
My fosters father was a sheriff for over +22 years even and he would NEVER do any thing physically bad to any one who did not try to do physical harms to him or others first and that is how are 99% of cops in the USA. He doesn't seem to be compassionate for the people who were slapped/beaten because that's "not really torture"--I mean his brain recognizes that it wasn't right to treat humans that way, but it hasn't fully penetrated his soul. Because of his up-bringing, and seeing people being treated as animals at his Uncle's camp, and etc, I think his heart has been hardened, as it probably had to be in order to stay sane.

It is rather a common practice of authoritarian regimes to keep their people inside the country. I am from germany and back when the country was split into east and west germany you weren‘t even allowed to travel to another country as a citizen of east germany if you had no relatives nor anybody else who meant something to you. That was because they needed people you love so they could torture or lock them up in case you defect while being "outside".
I‘m quite sure you won‘t find this way of punishment in other asian countries like japan, taiwan or the philippines. Maybe in mainland china but that‘s obviously not because they are asian but because they are authoritarian.

The most structured political familial system of governance in human history. Your arguments about the Reich or GDR or whatever modern socialist garbage experiment are completely irrelevant regardless of how much I agree with their evil and harm to society. Your choice of using modern westernized Japan as an example is completely fallacious considering its Constitution was rewritten by the United States and is dominated by modern western industrialized economic and social norms as are South Korea and Taiwan. The Phillipines was a Spanish colony and most mainland Asians don't even consider it Asian, more like some aboriginal colonial island in the Pacific.
