Hey man, I am curious now that this has been on your truck a while how the hybrid system handles it? When winching, do you experience the blower fans slowing down or any lights dimming? I would assume the hybrid motor system/battery is more than capable of producing the high amperage required for a 12v winching setup, but Toyota must have limited it to some extent. With a winch sometimes having up to a 500amp draw under maximum load, I am very curious how the truck handles it. Thank you!
Well happy birthday man! I too will be 42 in April this year and luckily no senior moments........yet 😆. Winch is a nice accessory to have and finishes off that new bumper nicely.
Love your videos. Very detailed and when I get my Tundra next month, I’m putting some of your instructions into practice. I was glad to see that you had no trouble accessing the clutch on the winch from behind the grill. I had wondered if that would require access from the grill and didn’t see how that would work. Mine will have the factory 3” lift, so hopefully I can reach a winch without a booster. 😂
Thanks man, I appreciate that!! Yea plenty of room to reach down in there to access winch, if the lift isn’t too high 🤣. Lemme know if I can ever help with anything!
Since your disconnect switch is so far away from the battery I recommend adding an inline fuse near the battery as any wire between the switch and battery is “hot”. Also you could of use any ground location in the engine bay or even frame where the bumper attaches instead of running them all the way to the battery.
Not a bad idea with the fuse, I actually thought it was weird it didn't come with one!...may be a stupid question, but would grounding it like that be ok with the winch???...I've grounded other accessories like you mentioned but I've never seen anyone ground a winch like that...and the instructions specifically say to connect both positive and negative directly to battery...thanks man!
@@NitroZ18Fishing I believe those instructions are like that to ensure a complete circuit as alot of applications use an independent battery that are not grounded to the frame IE on trailers. Since your battery is already grounded to the frame, grounding the winch to the frame would complete the circuit. Just ensure it’s a clean connection and not covered with paint.
Awesome video. I have the covert bumper on my SR5 TRD Off-road and I really liked it. I’m switching it out for an SSO slimline front bumper because I keep hitting the plastic on both sides of the covert bumper. You’ve sold me on the Zeak! Keep the videos coming. They’re great.
As always, great video! You are sooo descriptive and informative when you give tutorials! Question - if I don't have the Hybrid Tundra, do I just connect the winch terminals to the regular battery in the engine bay?
Can you show how the electrical connections were made at the battery? I also noticed on your battery has a box on top, never seen that on battery before. Thanks for all your content!
Absolutely! The connections were made with just your standard ring terminals, nothing special. Obviously had to get the correct size to go with the large gauge wiring, but pretty straight forward! That box on top of my battery was from my Rough Country switch panel I was using at that time. I do have an install on the channel going over that as well. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
Brilliant instruction, obviously your Tundra is still under manufacturing warranty. I wonder how your warranty is affected since you put this winch on your own? Was there any manufacturing recommendatons? specifications?
Amazing - thanks for sharing! It looks like you had to remove the air shutter to fit the winch - how did you get by the error codes / check engine light?
Instead of running the negative all the way to the battery, couldn't you have terminated the ground onto the chassis to eliminate a 2 large gauge wire run?
Just out of curiosity how did you connect the wires to the batterie? My batterie has a quick connect on the negative terminal and the batterie slots seem to be completely full I thought about getting a splitter or getting some vampire connectors to attach to the existing wirers. I plan on running 1/0 to a buss bar I'm going to install in the engine bay.
Great work as always man! Always look forward to your videos. I did hear something about the active aero no longer working after installing the CBI bumper. Is this true? Thank you sir
Thanks man, I appreciate it!...and that's correct, I believe they make a kit to work around it if I'm not mistaken...thankfully the Pro doesn't have it so I didn't have to worry about it...let me know if I can help at all!
Man I would love to!…I’ve actually had a few viewers ask if they can come to me, but they were a little too far away to make it work…I thoroughly enjoy working on these trucks, I’m not against helping any of my viewers out if the timing/location works!…if I can help, let me know!
I finished my install and was able to clock the winch (RUGCEL 13.5K) which aloud me to use the lower grill support bracket. Where did you purchase the battery cable extensions?????
Not sure about support, I haven't had any problems yet! (Thankfully)...but these sell out almost instantly...if I see em in stock on Amazon I'll let ya know, but keep an eye out!...they're sold out a lot of the time!
@@NitroZ18Fishing I’ll keep trying - the reviews on the ZEAK winch are outstanding. I have time as I don’t have my CBI front bumper yet. I plan to go to Idaho Falls in person to check it out. We have a second home in Sun Valley ID…. I just got my Colorado seat covers and 22” amber light bar. Unfortunately I missed out on your recommendation on the floor mats by a week as I ordered the Husky two weeks ago. I now have notifications turned on 👍
That's awesome, thanks for all the support!...this winch is definitely a steal, can't beat it at the price point...just as good as some twice the cost!...hopefully you'll get your hands on one, every time I've looked recently they're sold out again...let me know how ya make out!
How has the winch been pulling lately? Smittybilt and an Engineer at Baja Designs told me to swap the stock wiring for 0g since we’re extending the run on a 12k. I’m wondering how necessary it is?
I believe so, I know they make a kit to delete the air damn...the Pro doesn't come with that so I didn't have to worry about it but I know the front air damn is not compatible with the bumper...hope that helps!
No lift as of right now, I'm still on the factory TRD Pro suspension… No problems fitting the skid plate at all, no modifications needed… Hope that helps!
I just purchased mine thanks for all the instructions did you end up using all 25' of 2 awg wire? looking forward to own adventure installing it, Thanks!!
Hey Dan!...so I ended up using about 15' of wiring to make sure it wasn't pulled super tight anywhere and had plenty of "wiggle room"...I should have mentioned that in the video, I'm sorry!...thanks for watching, if ya need anything let me know!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Thanks yeah 15', that's a huge savings on price too. I did look around about grounded to the frame and it's not recommended, will cause the winch to run too hot and could possibly damage other electronics.
Yea I dont think I've ever seen a winch grounded to anything but direct to battery...the peace of mind is worth it for me!...let me know how your install goes!
I cannot believe how detailed this video is! You have good video editing skills. Amazing!

badland apex rebranded. Great video
Thank you sir!
Maybe Toyota did it right by no tow hooks. This way the after market business gets business and it would be better than any auto brand can make.
Nope, they are not that smart 😀
As disappointing as it was to not have em, I couldn't be happier with this setup I'm runnin now!
Haha lame I hate not having tow hooks in the front in the tundra smh 🤦🏻♂️
Mine was 82 after taxes.... they could have put some damn recovery points

What is the round module you moved over that was in the way? I was looking at mine yesterday and its angled oddly so wasnt sure.
Where did you remount your license plate?
Where did you purchase the "Flatlink" ? Did it come from Zeak or Great America Shakles?
