When it comes to finding a decent public bathroom downtown I like going to hotel lobbies. Hotels always have random people entering and exiting them so no one will call you out if you just casually waltz in to use the bathroom, unlike, in say, a coffee shop. Supermarkets are all legally required to have public bathrooms as well, though they can sometimes be in awkward places, like in the storage area in the back.
Hack for staying cool: I’ve been going to the library a lot recently to do work and it’s air conditioned! They advertise themselves as a place to escape the heat so if you want to escape the heat, be productive and not have to spend money on coffee or food, the library is a good place to go
I've been away from Vancouver for a year and a half now, living in Manchester (UK), and I've been homesick, so watching your channel has been comforting. My partner and I are moving back to Van in 4 months! I cant wait to eat my favourite foods again.
If you cycle or ride a scooter download or memorize the Vancouver bike path system map… since our car roads are very trafficked and dangerous, I try to only stick on the designated cycling streets (some are also much quieter)
The trans link day pass (something like $11 from midnight to midnight) is fantastic if you’re in the city for a day. You can ride unlimited on the buses, sky train, and seabus.
My contribution is also Compass Card related. If you keep losing your Compass Card like I used to, go to the TransLink BC Customer Service at Chinatown Station ( it's moving to the Waterfront Station this days, not sure if they already moved though) and get an alternative Compass. I bought a Keychain Compass, but they also have a bracelet thing and maybe some other options.
Thanks Adam! I'm moving to Vancouver in two weeks (omg I'm so nervous and scared) and these hacks are going to be super helpful. Too good to go is a big thing here in France so I'm happy to know I'll still be able to use it in Vancouver :) And the "no alcohol outside" rule is good to know because as a French person I'm used to walking around the city with beers
A Vancouver tip ive found after my move from Calgary: Depending on the type of street parking you could pay $1/hr to $8/hr. The gray parking meters with the old designs tend to be on the cheaper side. And if you see newer ones or big advertisement on them like "Scan QR code to pay here" they tend to be the $5-$8 per hour parking!
Compass Card Life Hack (additional): You can set up Auto-Load with your credit card so you don’t have to load the Compass Card every time it’s low on funds. That way you’ll never have the awkward *taps cards* “insufficient funds” moment on a bus.
The two times I visited Vancouver from the UK I found it confusing that the SkyTrain went underground for portions! My lifehack is if your employer has showers, or there is a gym very close to work, buy a good bike and cycle to/from work 3-4 times per week. Maintains reasonable cardio fitness and saves a fortune in transportation fees (less bike maintenance costs)
Ah that's why people still use the coins for parking! I never knew that as I don't drive here :P. But my Vancouver hack is whenever you take a SkyTrain (Canada Line) to Templeton area, particularly to McArthur Glen outlet store for shopping, since it will take you more than 1.5 hour (Translink time for charging a user again the next tap), you'd better take a day pass which would be around $11 and that will be cheaper than tapping in with your Compass Card that would be around $2.45 and then as you tap back in from that area if you are beyond 1.5 hours out it would be a single fare just like from VYR airport which will cost more than $11 in total than a day pass.
Thanks Adam, messaged you on instagram a while ago. I will be in Vancouver by December. First I’ll be staying in hostels and hopefully land a job as soon as I can. So I’ll be on a tight budget this is a lifesaver 😅
Jamie! Love to hear it, hope the move goes well for you !! I also made a video called "can you survive on $1000 in vancouver" and that vid has some good financial tips ✌
Hi, planning to relocate to Canada this year, still deciding between Vancouver and Toronto. Will appreciate your advise. I'm 28, 5 years professional experience in legalization of foreigners, but opened to opened to any other works. I've graduated advertising management. Thank you for your time!! P.s if I'll be in Vancouver coffee's on me 😊
Great Video! Was it just B-Roll when you showed the Splitwise app in Euro's not CA? My reason for asking is because Ive noticed some people use US dollars when talking about money in Canada. Is it a wide spread thing to use foreign money instead of CA dollars in general?
That screen recording was done by my Editor and collaborator Peter! So he recorded that segment 😆 Usually every one uses CAD here! I didn't think anyone would notice !
Feel like you gotta find someone at a skatepark and see how someone from there lives on a day to day considering how many skateparks and skaters, bmx riders, scooter riders would be dope!
Ha! They are not "streets" they are "avenues"! "Streets" belong to Vancouver's suburbs. Just say, numbered avenues run East/West and named streets run North/South (almost 99% of the time unless you are below the avenues - hence Cornwall and Point Grey Road if you are on the West Side). Doesn't work Downtown however....
This is a pretty terrible one and I’m not proud of it but if you ever buy anything from Nordstrom there’s no return period. I’ve literally had a friend return something from a year ago and they didn’t even ask why…
REAL LOCAL LIFEHACK: grocery stores, and I mean the true vegetable stand type ones, usually have a clearance veggie section where you can get a whole bag of mixed veg at steep bargains like $1.50. Availability subject to store and time of day/week. The stores I have found this at include top 10 produce in kits, kin's farm market in kerrisdale, joti's no frills at city hall. I'm sure there are lots out there tho
With the situation in East Hastings street in downtown Vancouver, that would be the last city on earth that I would consider moving to. Vancouver has become a dangerous unsafe dystopia and a hotspot for the mentally ill and drug addicted. This is due to unsound policies drummed up by misguided politicians who were voted into office by misguided voters. I doubt that there is a way back. Beware those considering moving to Vancouver. Its not what it used to be. A far cry. All thats left is really to cry about what this city was and will probably never be again. Shocking.
“Mountains are always north”
Mount Baker has entered the chat
*most of them* 😆

The Nordstrom bathroom downtown is always great. Doors to the floor.
I usually just hit up an alley lol

Adam out here teaching us how to save money in the most expensive city in British Columbia 🔥👍
IT'S WHAT I DO
Just an edit - The compass card payment actually costs $2.50 when you use it! Not $2.05 my bad 🤡😅
Still savings to be made though 💰💰
It went up that’s why haha

happy to share! and welcome 🙌😄 everything will be great !
Are you aware of the situation in downtown Vancouver? I would re-think the move to Vancouver if I was you.
@@ruthbanon6049 You mind sharing the situation? I'd like to know
One other thing: east west are “Avenues”; north south are “Streets”
no
I've never realized

If you're international, you'll need to have a CA zipcode to use this feature
Love the video!! Been living in Van for 4ish years now, and gonna be using that free parking app all the time from now on haha
I use Too Good to Go quite often :) Thanks for sharing! Btw, I love your necklace :)
How cold is Vancouver during the winter?
I don't mind the rain, but I can't deal with Cold ❄️
If I need to take the bus everyday would you say it is better do buy a monthly pass or just add value to the card??
Thanks for your videos! I will be moving soon to Vancouver and they have been so helpful!!
Love to hear it! Welcome Juan, you may see me around !!

Genius!
I did the same at my last job, biked in, hit the gym (sometimes 😅) then used the showers when needed. Said lots that year !
Tips for staying cool when it's super hot outside... Ride the Canada line. Skytrain, ride buses. Canada line underground stays nice and cool.
The high rate of living presently a new dimension of earnings, despite the drop in Bitcoin price will not stop me from investing
What could be the most secure and efficient way to invest in cryptocurrencies? I've done some research but am still unsure; advise please!
The idea is to buy low and sell high. Buying low, however, is only half the battle; you must also know when to sell
Knowing what you're doing is also essential. You don't invest in cryptos unless you have a solid understanding of how the market works.
Hodling crypto has cost me a lot, which is frustrating. How can I improve my situation??
Any recommendations for a reliable investment platform?

I love raw oysters and I started to go to a Happy hour just for oysters then go for dinner somewhere else 😊

I always used PayByPhone because it was quite common to see people to fish out coins with magnets… but now I might do it to save the dollar or two 😅

Compass card is actualy CaD 2.50 for 1 zone, not CAD 2.00.
thanks !! my mistake 🙏

The streets are not 1st Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street ect , they are 1st Ave, 2nd Ave and 3rd Ave etc. LOL - Stop spreading FAKE NEWS Adam hahaha
TRUE !
In North Van they are 1st street 2nd street etc !

Those are huge generalizations, I’m offended because I live here in Vancouver and I don’t feel unsafe and I’m not crying over it…
