    Nurse here: 100% low iron can = hair fall out. Take your supplements faithfully. Maybe even switch to liquid version to get your levels back up quicker.

    Girl you will be fine. Stress sometimes cause excessive shedding. Never Google health symptoms, you will be left super stressed. I hope you don't big chop it. Your hair will recover. You can still visit the doctor for a check up to make sure things are ok. All the best and take it easy.

    But if you're washing your hair less frequently, i.e. going from washing once a week to every 2 weeks, you're bound to have twice as much shedding as you have doubled your time in between a good detangle. I dunno I don't detangle my hair between wash days so it's pretty normal for my shedding to increase when I wash my hair less frequently.

  • @FabulouslyFran
    @FabulouslyFran 2 года назад +53

    Cutting doesn’t fix shedding/ shedding is from the root of your scalp. Figure out if it is something on the inside, or a certain ingredient in an newly used product , or stress does cause shedding.. get a protective style and leave it alone allow it to repair itself. Low iron will also make it shed out badddd! Light trim and put it away for about 2-3 months

  • @Denise_Cocoa
    @Denise_Cocoa 2 года назад +161

    Increased iron, protein, and vitamin D should help. Could also be hard water in the shower, maybe look into filters for shower heads. Before you wash your hair spritz your scalp with either green tea or clove water and let it sit for about 15 mins. They’re DHT blockers or something like that and slow the shedding process and strengthen the follicles.

      I was going through something like this and I had to change my shower head and get a filtered one because I had hard water which was taking a toll on my hair. The time before that was stress related because I lost both of my parents back to back a year apart. My hair has since grown back.

    Being honest, your hair does look thinner especially when you showed the pic after you dyed it, the comparison is noticeable to me however....as everyone has said STRESS will do a number of things to the body including hair loss/shedding AND as many of us women can testify too low iron is a definite trigger of hair loss as well...your sooooo good with your hair and it's YOUR HAIR so you know what to do...good luck and keep your faith alive, it'll be ok soon❣️

    Girl, I experienced the saaame thing after I had Covid. It just seemed like it was shedding more than normal, and everybody told me I was probably just trippin. So, I tried to ignore it. But, then I started looking at comparison pictures and started getting really concerned. It did not feel or look nearly as thick (especially the front) . It lasted for months, but it’s gotten better. Just try not to stress (cast your cares on the Lord), take your vitamins (brewers yeast is good for hair growth), and speak hair affirmations (Mark 11:24).

    I learned when my hands are in my hair too much breakage starts to happen. So I have a routine where I keep it in braids for two to three months. And in that time it is flourishing. No combing no brushing,just moisture. 😌

  • @natrlchallenge
    @natrlchallenge 2 года назад +24

    I heard clove water helps with that. Just put some cloves in water and let it sit 24 hours. Sift out the cloves and pour the water in a spray bottle. It's supposed to help with hair loss and hair growth. Use an oil to seal the moisture in. Several ladies are using it.

    • @deidraeverett2127
      @deidraeverett2127 2 года назад +5

      Yes I agree with that I just started clove water today and I made rose water. Added essentials oils and voila. Stress and low iron could be the factor. Along with not combing it in awhile. So it dried and lacking moisture.

    That is a lot. Please go see a derm with your concerns. Wait, didn’t you have COVID a few months back? That could be causing it. A lot of people had that side effect. But start really taking care of it, washing every week or two, lower manipulation/protective styles, and taking your vitamins. Could be stress too though. Hair issues and autoimmune issues like alopecia run in my family and are often an issue for black women in general, so if it continues go see somebody ASAP while something can still be done.

      I had just posted a comment about covid before seeing this. I had covid at the end of December and towards the end of January I noticed more shedding. I had braids in and just thought it was because of that… but then I went to the hairdresser in Feb and she felt that my hair was thin and asked about shedding. Suggested that it might be because of covid 😩

    Stress, hormones and diet play a large part in hair shedding. For me, seeing a nutritionist and a therapist (that has an emphasis on prayer) helped a lot. A nutritionist can also help recommend diets and vitamins. Also a dermatologist can check your scalp if you need some ease of mind. Overall, breath you’ll get through this 💗

    I see in you what happened to me when I was severely anemic (hair color change and hair loss). You don't need to cut your hair and start over. You hated when your hair was short. You need to get back to taking your iron and building your blood back up. I really think you should see a doctor about your iron levels and vitamin deficiency. When my hair turned reddish brown and started falling out aside from the anemia I was also vitamin D deficient. I was surprised because I live in sunny Cali.

    • @Ax.DaEdge
      @Ax.DaEdge 2 года назад +1

      Yup!! I've been trying to pinpoint the cause of my hair colour change. From a deep black to a mousy brown/grey hue.
      I've been using Black Strap Molasses & Prunes (Copper rich). Also Copper anemia seems to be a'thing'. Symptoms exactly like Iron anemia.

  • @Samayaa.

    the low iron and stress can result in the falling of your hair. as for the knots when you're washing your hair, that can be cause you need a trim, and since you aren't managing your hair very often so the shed hair gets built up so maybe that's why you lose so much hair during wash days, along with the brittle ends. it can also be protein overload on your low porosity hair, so try reading the ingredients of products. just try meditating and using your supplements mamas,i also hear that castor oil helps with thickening hair. it's like i can see the stress and pain in your eyes and it hurts me :( i really hope things get better jess

    You have beautiful hair. It can be so many things like, hormones, stress, or even hardwater. But your comb looks like what I went through and it turned out that I was using too many different products from too many different natural companies on my hair. Now, I use simple basic staples that I know my hair likes and nothing else. Fixed it. No more chunks of hair coming out. I hope this helps. 🥰

    Not 525,600 minutes!! I understand your pain. I tend to shed more when I'm stressed as well. I'm currently going through a break up and now a move. I think you just need to get back into your hair care routine. The shedding depends on how your caring for it and manipulation. A trim and shaping would be good. I think you'll be fine.

    Hello Ms. Lady, If you have not been to the Doctor lately, One way to find out if your iron is low or too low is by asking the Doctor to check your Vitamin D Level. My Doctor had me taking Vitamin D3 for about a month, then he had me to come back for lab wotk only after a month to see if my Vit D level changed any. I also added Biotin 10,000 Mg daily. My hair stopped coming out once my Vit D level reached over 20. I also Deep Condition my hair weekly. However, Stress can be a big factor in hair loss. So now my Doctor check my Vit D level every 6 months to a year. Make sure to keep your hair hydrated throughout the week.☺ Blessings, Thank you! 🙏🏽🌻

    Hi Jess. So sorry that you’re going through this. It may be multiple reasons as you and others have mentioned. Firstly, I recommend going to see your medical doctor ASAP. Low iron levels are notorious for having this happen among other things. This nothing to be taken lightly. Perhaps a higher prescribed dosage will work. As for family related stress, my wise advise is to try not to become too overwhelmed with everything, work on one thing at a time and the rest leave it God’s hands. You’re only person who could do but so much. Praying for peace for you in the midst of the situation.

    Iron and vitamin D deficiencies make your hair fall out. That plus stress, it makes perfect sense . You should do a protective style (even just mini twists) so your hair doesn’t tangle up as much since buns aren’t great for tangling/breakage either. Take care of yourself boo. Your hair and body will thank you.

I recently began using collagen peptides in smoothies with some protein powder as well. The collagen is suppose to help with your hair, skin, and nails. i have a few tips. i had the same problem that u had, dont wet ur hair all the time just once or twice in a week. when u wet it massage ur hair for about 5 min. use conditinor before shampoo. put a protective style in your hair before u sleep. also wear a bonnet. and if u want to use waax only do it once a week since it really breaks ur hair. stop using heat, only diffuse if needed. and u could use vitamins, rice water for a faster grow and thicker hair :) (sorry my English is not the best) {there are the best tips that worked for my hair} [3c-4a]

Especially because the shedding and thinning isn’t the first change. I found it pretty weird too that your hair was changing colour. It could just be stress, but hair also communicates a lot and rather safe than sorry right? I hope everything is okay. Your hair has been growing beautifully! ♥️

You should be fine if you are not having hair come from your scalp and it’s coming from the mid shaft it’s more likely you need a good healthy cut. Please feel free to ask any questions.

    Definitely iron deficiency.
    The exact same thing happened to me. I only noticed i was loosing hair when it came to wash days and before I knew it my edges were thinning out. I ended up cutting all my hair off because I couldn't take the sight of the hair loss. I started taking blood builders and within 2 months my hair started to slowly grow back and more importantly, my hair stopped falling out.
    6 months later my hair started to grow thick and full. I then fell pregnant and now I'm going through postpartum shedding.. Happy days.
    So I'm back to stage 1 however, I'm near the end of postpartum shedding.

    My girl Jess! I am with you. I have been experiencing more shedding than usual too. I almost fainted when I seen my hair loss. Saying to eliminate stress is kind of not helpful because stress doesn't go away overnight. But the best advice I can give to you is use a tea rinse! Green or black tea will eliminate shedding in ONE rinse. I've used it for me, my mom, and my cousin and we all seen instant results. Doesn't stop the stress but stops you from stressing about the hair loss. I pray you see this 🙏🏾 and try it!

    You could be shedding more for all the reasons you stated. It's important to get your iron back up asap! Low iron may be the biggest factor in your shedding. Stress, change in routine, low iron any one of them can cause more shedding than usual and you have all three going one at the same time. Based on the issues you are currently going through, I do not think that the hair in your comb was excessive.

    Jess (and anyone else)! If you can, ask your Dr. to test for Alpha or Beta Thalassemia. It's more common in certain ethnicities (mine for sure, but not assuming yours). If your iron has *always* been low despite supplements, it could be that. It sounds scary, but it's really not - I found out that my body just makes tiny red blood cells. I got ONE iron infusion (via IV) and felt like a different HUMAN BEING! Some folks need to top up every few years, but it's worth it to me because iron rich diet and supplements *could never*. Also, certain manufacturers of the infusions had payment assistance if you need to get it more than once.

    Girl I felt the same way a few months ago. Like I felt my hair was thinning 😫My stylist told me we go through a shedding phase. Look at the ends of your shedding hair and see if you see a white bulb. That means it’s coming from your scalp and new hair is just coming through. If it’s not then you have breakage. If this goes on for more than a month you need to get your blood checked to see what’s going on. I also did a tea rinse which helped me. I wish you the best of luck. Try not to stress because it makes it worse.

For me I am a protective style Queen ( meaning crochets ) so I hopefully in theory trained my hair to understand it will be a while before I wash her and a lot of shedding I’m used to because I go long periods of time without touching my hair but right now it’s natural hair out so A month~ish is as long as I go without washing my hair maybe 2 If I’m tired and extremely busy but again your hair has its own routine so if you switch up that might be a problem as well plus stress , not sticking to your supplements etc .
