The same thing happened to my hair. It shedded and broke off so much, that my twist-outs were see through. I was bummed because I finally made it to bra strap length. I shaved it completely bald a year ago and it has grown and thicker like it originally was. In my case, I wasn’t clarifying/chelating enough. Now I’m able to tell when my hair needs to be clarified. About a week ago, I put gel on my hair to slick the edges down and when I washed with a moisturizing shampoo, the front where I put the gel was brittle and shedding even after multiple washes. When I used a Ion’s Hard Water Shampoo, the shedding stopped and that section softened like the rest of the hair.

I had finally got my hair so long and healthy and then i went to my hairdresser for the firat time for a treatment, press and trim and it was all over. @@fafakatty6892 Hi! I think you have to figure out what works best for your hair. What I did was trim every 3 months. After I got rid of my damaged ends I extended trims to every 4 months and realised that was too long. I knew because I started experiencing more split and rough to the touch ends than when I trimmed every 3 months. So I went back to every 3 months. Aphogee is the truth, however, not everyone can use direct protein. Some people are protein sensitive so for those who may be reading this you may just need a conditioner with protein vs a direct protein like Aphogee. They have another one for curly hair that may work better for those who are protein sensitive.

It's in the same spots, too... My temple area is super sparse and I have those short pricklies all over the place. I don't think mine is breakage, though... I've been using a clove/fenugreek leave-in and I think it's new growth. Your thinning may be from stress... GOOD stress, but stress, nonetheless. A good trim should make a world of difference. You might prefer the fullness that short hair provides. Its easier to detangle my as its gotten longer, i can do it in 2 sections opposed to 6+, just the weight of my hair stretching my curls out makes it easier when washing/conditioning (I’ll never go back to short layered hair - its a detangling hassle). Fyi, my hair density has not changed and no abnormal shedding. Also, regarding the edges, may be something underlying (if not poor hair practices), and would be wise to see your physician, otherwise the issue will persist after you cut it.

My hair is doing the EXACT same thing right now. First I just blamed it on my hair getting longer and being weighed down, but now I’ve cut 3-4 inches and it has only gotten thinner and finer. I don’t know what to do either😩 Lord help us please

My hair is doing the same thing due to me being ill, going months without washing it, and on a lot of medication. My edges are thin. I even have a spot that is missing a small section of hair. I decided not to chop it but to keep it trimmed, use my rice water, deep conditioned, and moisturized. So far so good. Still thin in some areas, but growing.

The same happened to me. One day I was delta going my hair and my sections (especially in the front) were soooo thin. I analyzed the crown and front of my hair and there were easily 2-3 inches of see through ends [mind you I just got a trim like last month]. So I literally said screw it and chopped of those 2-3 inches and my hair already looks and feels so much better. Now like you, I chopped off this hair and plopped my wig on with the quickness 👀😂, but I know in a year my hair will really thank me 😌

Idk what happened to my long behind comment but in short-this was me from end of 2020 to all of 2021 where I spent a year trying to remedy my he thinness. I had to start over bc that thin was not it for me and my hair started growing back so the roots were waaaaay thicker and it was like I was transitioning again. No amount of treatments, Ayurveda and them kitchen remedies (onion, rice aloe, etc) could help with the damage the fall out did. My hair is waaaay shorter than the waist length I had end of 2020 but it’s waaaaay thicker than those pencil-like braids/twists I had in 2021.

I feel you sis as I have been there. Happy to share what I did with mine. Firstly I had to own that I wasn’t caring for it as I should. Secondly had to find out why it was shedding and breaking as it was. Answers were check my nutrition and over use of products eg product build up. For the past 18 months been taking a good nutritional supplement and concentrated on eating healthier - good benefits all around. I also think this addressed shortages around vitamin d, zinc and Iron. Then started using herbs such as fenugreek, alma, bhringraj, aloe, for scalp and hair. Moranga provided excellent topical nutrition for my hair. Hot oil treatments which has been working well. My hair is recovering well. Breakage and shredding is a thing of the past. Also put in place a simple hair routine that isn’t so time consuming and aimed at keeping my hair healthy. Stress was also a factor and found that the herbs lessened the impact on my hair. I am now planning a good cut by a professional as I have trimming ends myself. I consider myself even after 18 months to still be in the treatment phase so have learnt to be extremely patient with my hair as there are no quick fixes. I hope you find something that works for your hair before you cut it off cause it is lovely. You just going through a difficult phase and your hair is telling you something. Concentrate on recovery before cutting to ensure you have addressed the issues.

My hair was looking just like yours for about a year until I finally did this:
    Coffee rinses
    Coffee oil
    “Thickening” Shampoo and Conditioner
    Collagen supplements
    Finger Detangling
And eventually a Mini Big Chop, bc your hair will start back growing and it will be noticeably thicker (normal density it once was) at the root

Why don’t you get a nice blow out, get it pressed and trimmed that way. I had a similar experience where my hair seemed to be acting UP. My curls seemed uneven, I was dusting so many fairy knots. I got it straightened and was shocked at how full my ends were. I just needed 1/4 of an inch or less trimmed here and there. My hair was no where near as damaged as I thought. I did need protein though.

  • @neeceeneecee149

It could be stressed related or your hair is just changing. I think you should wait at least another month or two. Maybe try deep conditioning twice a week and try two protein treatments a month. And probably keep it in cornrows or mini twists/braids for a while. I really think you can bring it back without completely starting over!
