Been really thinking of doing this to my M100, since left hand bass is my playing style most of the time. I currently use an analog synth sitting on top of the organ for bass, but of course it's less than ideal. This is the best demonstration I've seen or read of this technique. Thank you! What I really wish is that I could add a second wiring harness to the lower manual and have a switch to go between stock/octave drop. But that sounds like too much work.
Great video. Someone gave me a free mint condition L111 a month ago. I just grabbed a M111 for $150. I love them both. The L111 looks slicker but I think the M111 (it's also in excellent condition cosmetically) have a much rawer sound Hammonds are the Soul Brother's Stradivari
My harness won’t reach that far. Comes up 2 inches short. Even pulled up the manuals looking for hidden slack but found none. Can the contacts be extended?
@ i did cut the wood but it still came up short. What’s the proper gauge for the wiring? I looked around but only found people cautioning against using to thick a gauge of wire that would change the resistance.
if my hammond M model, not m100, does not have the farthest left ones empty and they are all already used, would it still work to bump it over and up an octave like you did and do it? or if they are already connected would it make no difference? Thanks in advance!
@@dspiffy Thanks for getting back to me. I'm always wary of modding my organs. I always screw something up even while fixing it! I've destroyed at least one Hammond and two Lowreys
Thanks so much for sharing this, Dan!! this is just the video I was looking for! Would you be kind enough to do one on adding an audio jack plug to an M3? Just as an output to run a lead into a vent or amp? With CV I have a lot of time on my hands having lost 100% of my gigs.
Mate I did the mod - worked well for bottom keys - but now the top keyboard is not working on some notes on some pipes. What could I have done wrong do you think?
So the first one goes to the 2nd octave 2nd jumper goes to the 3rd.. on the last jumper, where goes that go? You have your 12th jumper on the new octave, I don’t know where that one goes to
just one more question sorry to annoy you. i have read that l-100 only has 7 lower manual drawbars so that state that it's not worth doing on a l100 since you have done it do you believe it's worth doing as i have soldering and wood work skill but not keen if i achieve nothing. thanks for your time i appreciate you answering my questions your a nice guy. cheers.
I want to do this on my T100. That is, add a lower octave all across the lower manual. I must be missing something...how is it you get the 16' on the lowest octave? The way I'm understanding it, the lowest 12 notes play the same as the next 12 notes.
@@dspiffy I'm sorry, maybe I don't fully understand the meaning of "foldback". Does this mod somehow make the low octave of the lower manual play an octave lower than the factory setting? The way my mind is seeing it, the added jumper wires just make the lowest 12 keys play the same tones as the next 12 keys.
@@dspiffy Another voice from the confused wilderness. The foldback demo vid (yours and others) make it look for all the world like you're getting extra bass tones out of the low end of the manual. A great/desirable result! You also see it at the end of this video, compared to the beginning. But like the OP here, I can't figure out how it works - the process you describe here makes it look like the end result should just be that all BUT the lowest register get dropped an octave. Those lowest keys should sound exactly like they did before the mod. So where is that low tone coming from?
I just finished on the model T. When I walk up chromatically in the first new low octave, the next octave (F) sounds lower than the E that was right before it. Is that normal?

This is the only foldback explanation I've seen that wasn't overly convoluted and needlessly complex. Kudos. I'm going to do this to my T412.
Thanks!

i will have an m111 in a few weeks. what should i do before shipping ? i already told the guy to tighten the tone generator screws
@@aggelosk3013 That's as much as he need to do internally. Other than that it should be really careful and make sure it's strapped down

That's why I cut away the wood, but you can also splice longer wires

I've used 22g
Got the first 11 wired up and folded back but there’s almost no volume. Any ideas?
I'd like to buy a nice M-3 with your foldback bass lower manual setup
I replied to your email. I dont have any organs for sale right now.
Thx! great video , just bought a m101 and did not knew about this

I believe so, but I've never worked on an M.
If it only goes down to f do you think it’s limiting?
Yes but a lot less limiting than a regular spinet

How much do you sale these for typically?
Where are you located?
@@dspiffy About an hour and a half from New Orleans
So they are worth more down there than up here, but not as much as other countries. I'd say anywhere from $200-1000 depending.

If only Hammnd organs were this cheap here in Italy, I'd have filled the house already!
T series shouldn't cost you much. It's all solid state, but has a tonewheel generator. In the US, they sell for around $25.
