Yeah, Jon Lord (RIP) from Deep Purple used to run his Hammond (C3 or B3) through a divider network on the Hammond A & B outputs with a couple of 1k resistors to get a line level out, then run the output into two Fender twin guitar amps overdriving them like crazy to get that gnarly Hammond sound that he was renowned for. Used to drive the Hammond purists crazy... lel!
You mentioning the lack of earthing reminds me that when my little band actually persuaded a keyboard player to join us, we had our first rehearsal in a deconsecrated church in north London. We set up all our beaten up 1960’s gear and began playing, only to have our new keyboardist somehow connect himself between a vocal mic and his Hammond. It did not end well.
Ah, valves! My very favourite technology! You can keep your chips and digitals and micro do-dahs. No, it's the lovely thermionic emission device for me! It's what I understand after years in the TV trade and day-release to tech college. I've even got a couple of City & Guilds certificates you know! Great videos, as always. Cheers!

I had a L100 with two Leslie 145s in our kitchen as well, my wife hated it, she used to put our wet washing straight out of the washing machine on top of the speakers, I couldn't win and eventually sold it all off 😡. Now we've got a bigger house and I've got a proper work shop, I'm hankering for another L or M.100. Thank you.😎👍

Shade of Jon Lord! I have an extra output on my B3, but it bypasses the Leslie speaker fo you can get a signal straight off the preamp and run it into another amp. It has another output that rolls of the high end so you can get more bass out of the organ. The company that restored my Hammond also sells an insert FX box that allows you to introduce guitar FX pedals in the signal chain which outputs through the Leslie. Sounds like you made a Franknorgan.

Have a look at the RCA out on the side of the volume pedal..I used to have a M160 and had a Leslie floor preamp attached to the RCA out on the pedal...It worked pretty well..And you'd also get the reverb too! Just discovered your channel...very nice.
It would be fun if you showed us the workings of your Lowrey L2 Wandering Genie (1978), when can we see it working? Anyway i still like this Hammond! More Hammond demonstrations please!
I would love to have an old Hammond organ. However, I would probably have to be a radio technician to maintain this beautiful piece. Are there still any spare parts available from Hammond?
Sadly not, Hammond was bought out by Yamaha(?) or someone and all of the old parts got destroyed years ago. You can get old replacement parts from eBay and new electronic bits from RS components etc

Not sure I'd have done the line out how you've arranged it - I'd have probably found the connection to the input of the power amp & split out from there, probably via a transformer (maybe a DI box - depends on signal level). Still, if it works ..

@VintageKeyStudio I got an L 122 in a garage sale. It's in very good shape, all original, tonewheel is ok but the sound is very low and faint. I replaced some tubes and cleaned the RCA inputs and connectors, but still the same problem... The volume/expression pedal makes no effect and the pedal drawbar makes a hum (constant note) when pushed. Any tips on why the sound is so weak?

hello, enjoying the videos, lots of knowledge. i have a question i didn't manage to research on my own and i don't know who to ask - you seem like the guy. on transistor organs, can you typically pull line outs from each manual? i don't yet have an organ to prod and i assume it depends on its make and age, but i thought about running some cheap organ through effects, and i'd rather have two individual loops for each manual. i'd be ok with some assembly, even having to build separate preamps or whatever. but are the manuals usually bundled together or do they have independent tone generation circuitry? thank you
Thank you for your question. It depends what organ it is. The older the organ the more likely it is to have separate tone generation for each manual. The best thing to do is find the schematic for the instrument and see if it has two outputs mixed into one and to tap into them before they merge. You probably already know but when tapping into the circuitry it would be a good idea to use a capacitor to block any possible DC and use one that is rated somewhere near the voltage of that part of the circuit. I usually use a 0.1 uf with the line out after the capacitor. Best of luck! Go safely and tell us how you get on.
I had a Hammond electronic organ from the 70’s and I would agree with you it didn’t sound all that great but it did lead to my love of organ music and in particular the Leslie speaker, I recall the belt on mine would slip during speed changes leading to a momentary ‘chuntering sound’ from the cabinet, such character. These days I see so many electronic organs for free, or very low cost, provided you take them away, I just wish I had room for them. I particularly liked your demo of the Yamaha C55 a series of organs which I shall always associate with mediocrity but I now know that I was wrong. I must keep my eye open for one!
Ahh yes - lovely old mechanical Leslies - any electone is good fun. The later ones with the grey finish and a sort of rolladex style menu didn’t look as nice, but had the same sounds and more functions

Replace (or find someone able to safely replace) all the electrolytic capacitors in the amp chassis, and the vibrato and percussion modules
