Something that people don't mention about learning to draw faces is how important it is to learn the anatomy of the skull. It's as crucial as learning realism before stylization. People skip realism and end up having grotesque facial proportions on their characters. You're not stylizing, you're just drawing it wrong. Don't skip the very basics otherwise you're gonna have a VERY rough art learning journey.
But isn't the face sketch like Loomis a simpler way to represent the fundamental form of the face? Drawing a skull doesn't seem like a beginner thing but more like a guide to use when doing more tedious realistic faces.
@@YoEnzo655 not exactly. The Loo is does represent the face in a simple way, but knowing the depth of the eye sockets, and the overall shape of the skull and it will give you a better understanding. The Loo is method is great for first starting off and works great as a guideline, but it isn’t strictly necessary to know the full details of the skull, but it greatly helps
I literally just figured out how to draw heads now drawing the outline of a head is so easy now thank you I love you I literally;u just clicked on the video and followed the day one steps and now I can draw heads wowowowoowowowow
I hope marc and his team continue to find ways to earn good money outside of directly charging for these videos. This is on target to be the greatest youtube school of all time
Marc, can you do this but with color study? Like light and shadow, texture, color harmony practice/exercise etc. Please? ❤ If you read my comment, i hope you'll consider making a video about this 😊 Thank you so much for the hardwork you've put in creating this channel :)
I am trying to do this traditionally :) and it is very nice and gives a lil routine , so I thank you , even if I have to redraw some stuff because it gets messy otherwise, it do help
I'll definitely be following this new study schedule once I'm done with the "learn to draw characters" one ! I'm on day 3 of this one 💪 Thanks a lot ! Heads and faces are so hard to draw...
Hi Marc, sorry for my English (I'm using google translate because I have difficulty writing in English), I love your videos they always help me, could you make a video on how to draw with your style?, it would be very useful also because I like it a lot
Honestly mark i think this can be in one evening or beeing realistic, in two days Max, if you wanna know how to draw heads, focus on the most detail part, the low part, a circle Is good but just as a guide, in a case where i can put the basic shapes in perspective ok, all right, but then you realize That the facial features are important too, the Head Is complex, study the skull, why everything Is like It Is, Lear to do eyes, nose, ears (those ones are tricky) 'cause if you know basic perspective you can make a Head using a box, just like Kim jung gi use to do.
The point of ot being stretched out is to make sure you eat the things you learn in small portions, if you do it all in one night itll be easier to forget
Thanks a lot for this study schedule and exercises, I'll definitely try it! Incredible timing on the video because this is exactly what I've been trying to improve at recently. I have been trying other angles as well, upwards / downwards and also if the angle is not exactly 3/4, and I find those quite hard to do, because it's a little hard to determine the size of the side circle of the loomis method, and also where to place the chin (especially from the upward / downward angle). Anyway, thank you again for this video, I really appreciate it, I have been unsuccessful with my recent attempts so I lost a bit of motivation, but this video gives me a bit of motivation!
I love your tutorials and I have improved a lot thanks to your videos. And I would like to say that I would love to see more videos showing the painting style from Zelda's video I really loved the way of painting in that video.
You are pure magic Marc,i've been following for years the channel and it remains fresh, useful and inspiring through time.Thank you for all the hard work and art guidance.
Followed by how not to draw the same face over and over again.^^ One of my biggest problems. All my female characters look exactly the same. And i can't figure out how to change that... Maybe a topic for a future class, Marc😉
The crying face in the thumbnail 😂😭😭. I don’t draw too many human faces or anything, and I don’t think I’d suck at it, but I’ll do this and compare my faces from start to finish LOL 😂
Man just watching your videos made me change how I want to draw anatomy First I wanted to do mostly big heads like an artist i love, but now I want something more proportional but stylized while maintaining a style similar to that (If anyone's wondering the artist is "Yoako", just be careful, they do nsfw art too)
He mark, will IbisPaintX be ok to draw this? Also could I start doing this on paper then move to digital, and do i have to do this 7 days in a row? Thanks
In all honesty, I struggle so much with clothing folds. I know how they look, I just have no idea where they should go. It would be much appreciated if you made a second tutorial, but don’t let me dictate your uploading schedule.
hi, I just wanted to ask if you could make a video about the ellipses and cylinder method? I wanted to ask this because I was having trouble working with it. I tried all the other methods and I think this is the best for me, but I'm just having trouble drawing its front, back, and sideways. So I wanted to ask if you could make a video of how to draw the ellipse and cylinder method's front, back, and sideways. thank you for your time.
bluds been following us 2 weeks ago i was struggling with hair now with the face ;-; the next vid better be the human anatomy >8D or poses or anything related to the body of a homo sapient
I dunno about everyone else, but when I ask myself "just how does he know what I'm struggling with right now" it takes me a few seconds to realise that I'm struggling with literally everything because I didn't listen to the last tutorial properly... 😁
Hello Marc, I have a question, I watched all your videos and bought the Art school but I don't yet understand 2 simple things ^^ The size of your canvas and the size of the brushes when you draw faces, can you tell me please! ^^ Have a nice day !
Maybe it was intentional to discourage people to skip the video. Encourages users who would just write it down to watch the video and help the watch time.
Thank you so much for creating this set of practice! I'm trying to follow this instruction this whole week. Now I am at day 2 and I felt that I've improved my drawing skill already.
Thanks for this short videos Marc, I have ur art program but sometimes I feel really overwhelmed with my two jobs and the program and I don’t feel like studying that much tbh, this kind of videos are always a lifesaver ❤❤❤
We’re hosting family this week so time’s been even harder to find than usual but class has finally started, pay attention! ⛔️

Are you in my walls, I'm litteraly struggling so hard with faces recently 😭😭
He’s in everybody’s walls

U will struggle more in hands dude
HOW DO YOU KNOW MY CURRENT ISSUES!? 😭

Marc is a wizard of knowing that is audience need help in something specific and uploading a video
It only took me 7 minutes to figure out what's wrong on my head drawings because of this video, thanks mate its super helpful
This literally dropped the day I decided to finally get good at drawing characters, well drawing anything really.
Two times I've made this weekly schedule and both times I got results. Thanks a lot Marc!

I agree. If you skip realism, you’ll have your faces looking worse than the grotesque heads of money spiders 💀💀💀💀

@kingideaofficial I see. I'm really new to drawing so I'll stick to Loomis for now but I'll consider using the skull anatomy further on.
Yea you're right. The Loomis head is actually simplified skull so yea...@@YoEnzo655
I spent too time on human anatomy not on faces 😅 thanks for the videos as always. You're my favorite art teacher.
this is exactly what i did :(((

Omg so early! Thank youuu for your videos!❤ it has teally helped me a lot to get back into drawing
Where did the day 6 and 7 go on the right side?
The fact that i was literally telling myself i need to learn to draw heads better and this came out 😭. Your timing is impeccable.
I am trying to do this traditionally :) and it is very nice and gives a lil routine , so I thank you , even if I have to redraw some stuff because it gets messy otherwise, it do help
Perfect timing! I was just looking for a video with exercises to practice faces.

Marc for 20+ years you have been an artist. Have you ever experienced carpal tunnel syndrome or wrist pain?
Gonna do it, chief! Not immediately, but I failed the Loomis method once, maybe this time I'll get it.
