This is the best method, actually.
pomodoro hmmm
When I read 'tomato method,' I thought he was going to talk about YOUR method, lol.
Wasn't expecting you on this comment section xD
@@enkaru Same lol
@@Philtomato i feel you are biased towards this method, not sure how...
Off topic but I really think that since you started studying artists more and dissecting their works, your art has really being popping more. Like the colours especially, much more vibrant.
100%! Love you Marc 3>
Did he do that in his last videos ?
He totally did improve himself while trying to help us get better, and he was already a great artist to begin with. It's incredible to see that a master can still become a bigger master
Another study method for artists with ADHD is to switch between at least a couple different study topics. Maybe work on anatomy for a bit then switch to practicing vanishing points. When I discovered this I improved significantly faster. Mostly because I was spending longer amounts of time working. Whenever I feel myself getting bored I’ll just switch to drawing or painting something else.
The science of studying is actually a lot more then just pomodoro technique. There are a lot of concepts and studies about "how to study properly and effectively". Few example are interleaving, space repetition, study lamp, active recall, SQ3R Method ecc. I learned these concepts by watching thousand of video and reading hundred of books when I started uni but they are really usefull in anything you do in life
Care to share where to learn more? I struggle with procrastination and self sabotaging

Pomodoro changed my life. I got a certification for my job and i've had more success practicing drawing and writing.
It's interesting because it serves as an example of the importance of small goals. I've always had problems studying for hours (thankfully school was easy enough that I didn't have to), but I can sit for hours without realizing it, because my goal is simply "make it past this 30 minutes".
Then another 30, and another, and another. My goal is so clear and defined I'm able to focus completely without wandering.
Today I tried this method... It helped to focus. I have a lot a trouble trying to stay focus for long periods of time (I tend to multi task) and when I manage, I end up I losing the track of time.
This is actually helping and thank you so much for showing this method.
Welcome to my life, Pomodoro
As an ADHD person I use the pomodoro method. I use lightning in a bottle (facts that get me hype, or songs that get me in the zone when I hit a road block). And doing the same study in a different medium if I get burned out
This video makes me feel happy because I’ve been using the pomodoro technique for the past months when I draw. I used it for school and I thought to myself maybe I should use it for drawing and it helps! Those 5 min break helps and I feel great coming back to do another 25 minute round.
This is literally PERFECT for what I’ve been dealing with.
This video literally saved me! I've been procrastinating my art studies and getting distracted from them for too long! Did you read my mind Marc because I've needed this video for so long 😭 Thanks sooo much for your super helpful art tips btw!!!
Marc's classes are super helpful, and I even save the ones I've missed in a playlist to watch later!
How the heck did I miss this class!!! Gotta take extra notes now omg I really need this for my time management and how to progress faster though the art school program so thanks for the class teach!
What I liked most was seeing how you simplified the shapes in the sketch. After the issue of procrastination, I calculate that it must be more difficult for younger people in these times, between networks and cell phones.
Your work is incredibly helpful to illustrators. Your art and working style are truly impressive. 👍👍👍
wow, i've always used the pomodoro technique for late night studying, but I never thought to use it while drawing! it will definitely help with my motivation and distraction issues, will definitely try it out!!
This illustration is stunning! And the pomodoro method is definitly something that i'm gonna try and recommend to my students.
YESSSS MARC YOU'RE BACK!!! I'M IN MY SEAT FOR TODAY'S CLASS
Awesome video again, Kikoru looks beautiful in your style.
Thank you Marc! I NEEDED this🙏❤️
I saw the tomato icon and I KNEW. I knew the Pomodoro was coming.
Thanks for the video, Marc! Also, its nice to have finally watched the anime you are drawing before the video. Shinomiya is cool!!
Holy!! I've developed this technique recently after being on and off the grind all the time. It's good to know that Im on the right path def gonna apply this and hopefully get even more productive!
This is really informative and fun to listen/learn. It’s also what I’ll be doing to help improve with my work. Thx a bunch
Great video about the Pomodoro method!! Thanks for sharing about it!!
I really needed this, thank you. Gonna do the chores than the art.
I've been using the pomadoro technique for a while and it's incredibly helpful!
Thankyou for the tips really appreciate it and you teach so well, hopefully I can improve my art with this technique. This will be my first day❤
Tbh i had a really hard time starting projects before doing the pomo timer, i agree with you it is a highly useful tool
That's amazing, thank you!
Forgot about this method but it’s so good for procrastination!
Thank you marccc
You are so awesome 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you you are my hero
I have 3 thanks to give: for the Pomodoro method, for the brushes and for how to cleanly organize my work in Photoshop :)
I will try it. Thanks Mark B.
Metoda pomidora sounds really good, I'll definitely use it (:
I work from home in an admin job and it’s difficult to stay focussed. I’m definitely trying this with my daily task list!
I was just thinking about life and feeling demotivated
But life is motivating and beautiful, If you think it's not you should probably spend more time in nature, that's what real life is
Me too 😃
Id say get a friend and talk about some of the wildest sh*t out there, if you guys click well enough you'll feel a lot better.
Easy to say life is beautiful when you're privileged enough to not suffer it's cruelty like many people do @@soulofexistence
Need to be open minded about others experiences rather than your own
Too much internet, internet is a tool for us to use, not an escape
It really helps me when i just HAVE to do something but can't force myself.
I saw a tomato and a blond anime girl and instantly went "DOKI"
I thought i was the only one lol
I came down and checked just to see if someone also left this comment. Nice to see fellow Dragoons out in the "wild".
I thought the same thing XD Its funny because I'm drawing crow doki rn while watching this.
With a gun, so Apex-related too and adds to the alleged “coincidental” reference
Tips for anyone with Non Manic ADHD.. Get someone else to load your work up for you.. Photoshop / clipstudio or get your pencils out and a pad page open in your view.. Once you've started you'll be fine but getting a little help to start isn't a bad thing.
Interesting. Thanks for this, I might need this
I've seen alot of videos of you sir
You're one of artist I really admire, your teaching and explaining is very easy to understand because of you I really like to be better at drawing
you inspire me sir to try and be better
I want to message you but to show you my progress but I don't have any other social account except FB
I saw a profile but I'm afraid to message you there aha
well.. sorry for being random sir
I really want to thank you sir because of your videos It really inspire me to draw again
Pomodoro is a great method, it may seem to break "the flow", but it isn't - that's fantastic.
The procrastination is fricken real. I saw this video at like 8 or 10 in the morning could have just watched it then. But I have somehow f*cking managed to procrastinate my way around watching this video until damn 5 p.m. what the hell is wrong with me. Speaking of procrastinating I should probably be buying the art course before it's no longer on sale because I've been meaning to get that too
Acrive recall seems superior but that's more for reading some comolex subject.
YES!
Your color game improved but the pose is a mix of dynamic and static with the huge axe.
Awesome new video
Each time that I'm about to quit, this guy comes across with a new idea
Can you do a video on the side profile? Not just the face, the whole body. I've always struggled with it and it's one of the angles I can't draw for the life of me! :(
i personally use the music method where when my playlists ends i finish.
That sheen on the metal... chefskiss
Marc listing who this method might be for and me sweating profusely as all points listed applied to me
that's it! i'm pomodoring from now on! starting now!
Your videos are really good and this is a nice method, but I have to cook, shop, do the housework and also have a regular (part-time) job in order to make ends meet. I'm just really tired often, like right now where I am coloring the establishing panel for the next chapter of my Webtoon. I want to do my story justice and not create bad art, so sometimes I hesitate to do anything complex when I am too tired.
Since I can think, I loved to draw, I am a self thought Artist.
I never went to Art School, the more I study Art by myself, I find it more difficult.
I mostly feel too lazy and it is too difficult to draw, especially poses.
I don’t know how to improve, it sucks.
Guess I will buy your course and I really hope that it will help me.
Seems worth trying. Is there any chance youll do a video on textures? Ive noticed nobody really touches the subject, and i always see people skip the part where they apply textures at the end. Id like to know exactly what people (or at least you) use, and how they tweak them. Its a small step that goes a long way to making something look "done".
Sensei!!❤
w mans love u bro
i use this method sience highscool but dosent know there a name for it, when im resting i always look at the aquarium and seeing thoose little fish will relax your brain.
I kind of already do it. But I'll go with how I feel, or how much is left to finish a task instead of 25 min on the clock. I find it better unless you have big tasks that requires hours
Like many skills, its usually a lot of small tasks that create a bigger whole.
"watch your neighbours fighting out the window" whattt!?😂😂😂
Tomorodo method why did nobody talk about this method
Thanks marc for this
More of your content on traditional art?
Leaving another book-recommendation here because I feel like it could help some creatives finding a fitting workflow, new ideas and more confidence:
"Creative Confidence" by David and Tom Kelley
Not only an amazing book for artists and designers but everyone who wants to level up their life and work with some creativity (and creative problem-solving) as well
It talks a lot about structuring projects, overcoming procrastinantion and that thinking-doing-gap and they present several idea-finding/building techniques
I have a completely different problem. Once I actually sit down and draw, I can often go from start to finish with ease, but I rarely have the motivation to get out of bed and sit at my desk to draw. The only way I can actually get myself to draw is when I feel so inspired that I can’t think of anything else, almost like I have to vomit my idea before I can continue life like normal, or when I livestream myself drawing and get rewarded with constant attention. Unfortunately, neither of these situations apply to skill improvement projects (they don’t involve bursts of creativity nor spark the interests of viewers), hence why I’m struggling with the RUclips Art School program. I haven’t completed a single assignment and I registered about four months ago. I would’ve given up entirely, but I don’t want my money to be wasted.
You have terrible habits outside of art, I'd guess. Bad habits breed bad inner biology, which breeds bad focus. Most of us are zombiefied cuz of this. Social media, weed, alc, TV, food, all gonna tear away your drive and focus. It's too gratifying with no work involved. It's hard, but you gotta give up your addictions in order to succeed in anything.
@@jakepapa6516 Oddly enough, I’m not addicted to any of those things. Often, I even get bored of my phone, put it aside, and just lie there in silence.
❤❤❤❤ right 👌🏻
Can that art school be done with traditional drawing? I don't have a drawing tablet yet
i've been holding this myself but the bomb explosion thing on your edit is not cropped when the classroom transition sliding in ,':D
I find pomodoro takes me out of flow state with the ringing. Though the breaking down of tasks into small tasks, and getting rid if screens is amazing.
I tend to use a method of breaking down a task in 1/2 multiple times until I find it manageable to start. So if we’re using time, I’ll say I wanna draw figures for an hour. That’s too much for my brain in a moment. So I’ll cut it in half : 30 minutes. Then cut in half again : 15 minutes. Okay that’s managable.
Then I put a stopwatch and go until I feel like I’m losing steam or back hurts. Then I turn off the stop watch. If I meet 15 minutes or more I’ve already accomplished my small goal. Though often I’ll get to that 1 hour or sometimes even more without thinking about the time. And I keep my flow state.
I may cap my time based on how much time I got if I have another thing on my schedule, but I’ll think less about time and do more quality than before.
It is time
I'll try when I'm done procrastinating.
It was funnier in my head
Marc what did you think of episode 10 of kaiju 8
Oh hi Mark
when we needed him most, he cooked
I know this comment probably won’t be seen but would this method work with the fundamental video you posted a couple months back. Like applying a couple of Pomodoros to each fundamental. Example 2 doros for form drawing practice, 2 for line placement, 3 for perspective, 4 for anatomy of certain, 3 for monster and human design, 4 for observation and etc. Also would it be good to have art projects, like making OCs or trying to make designs, environments and etc while learning the fundamentals or should I learn the fundamentals first and then go on to making projects? I find the urge to making an art project just to come to a stop because I know well I can’t draw lol. So it’s a never ending fight in my head.
Huh, now that I think about it, I was using this method without knowing about it for fighting games. Spending a short amount of time on something I wanted to learn (let's say anti-air), after 30 minutes, I take a break and then I was fighting actual players and apply what I learned and make it the entire 1 hour ranked session
Did you ever create animations, Marc?
I've been an artist and animator for 10 years. My art is "Meh" and I want to break my plateau. So in December last year I set a big goal of creating my own anime-style video. It's a big ambition that won't happen overnight, so I gotta find out how to not give up on it. I broke it down into smaller goals like learning how to animate quickly and skillfully. They are broken into smaller goals like understanding human anatomy, and even smaller goals like learning anatomy proportions and things like the deltoid, neck, collar bone, and rib cage. I hyperfocus on these projects and do not like interruptions, but I try to take a break at least once every hour. You might say that's my version of the Pomodoro Method. I realize that it may take years before my anime video is complete, but I rely on small victories like understanding the contours of an arm.
I did 20 years ago (yikes) so that probably doesn't count
Clicked to hear how Philtomato's art wisdom was life-changing for you, but got pomodoro method wisdom instead. Still useful, no complaints.
so, basically it's a series of micro-deadlines to work + forced mini-weekends\mini-vocations to rest mind and hands🤯
i was just checking my subscriptions lol
I have a genuine question ..i recently started making guesture drawing on my pen tablet of 10×6 inch working area and i find it difficult to draw loose gesture lines in such a small area ..though my gesture are prety good on paper so what should i go to improve on the digital tablet ?
Hello 👋 @Marc Can We Have more of Your Drawing Clothes Tutorial maybe like a 1 or 2 Weeks or Maybe Longer Mastery of Drawing Clothes. I hope I get noticed Thank You.
Yess! We do really need more clothes tutorials
Hi, recently ive had what i would like to call an "art depression", I basically just ruined my own passion somehow by overworking myself with trying to improve, since I'm self taught, i sometimes can't really tell what i'm doing and if all of those efforts i'm spending are actually useful or not, it's been about a year that i'm learning but i feel like i destroyed everything those past few days by forcing myself into becoming better as fast as possible, the problem is, when i think about other artists ahead of me it makes me frustrated and pushes me into working harder, but on the other hand, i don't know where i should spend actual effort and all of this frustration is completely stopping me from seeing my full potential, now everytime i pick up a pencil i have all these thoughts in my mind that i can barely get rid of and i just want to stop everything as my will to draw slowly fades away, thank you for reading all this and, is there anything i can do about it..?
procrastinating? exactly what im doing now
this is what ive been doing.. but i didnt know it had a name.
This might sound weird but what accent do you have? I love your art and tutorials BTW.
My time is calculated in potatoes. All my time is spent being a potato. :(
Ah... the time honoured patata technique...
Question. Can I still listen to music while drawing? Despite the fact it's on my tablet or phone.
Pomorodo is great
But someone has a way to
Keep practicing always l am dealing with practicing repeatedly for a long time Thanks already if you read it
I was being a Tomato all this time and I didn't know it.

you have a point... 😨
DOKI BIRD!?
I'm watching this video twice and leaving a comment whilst putting off work. Does that count as procrastination? lol
not at all in this specific case 😏
5 minute break? It's like eating only one piece of pizza, not finishing it, although you are hungry, and throwing it in the trash.
I know you said and repeated that it is important to write and track everything, but why is that? What do I do with the information I have after tracking it??? This is the part I always get stuck on TT~TT
