This week I'm in Tokyo, and it's hot af bro. Hope the video helps - adapting how you study will have a massive impact on your growth. I feel like I repeat this stuff to students every day so it must not be the most obvious thing. do it! If you already do, your IQ is likely over 300, well done. Also had some fun drawing random OCs to distract you while you watch so you 'll have to watch the video twice, they're from their school's fight club obviously. Where the heck will I be next week!?
Hey marc i was curious would i be able to participate in the art school if all i had was an ipad pro and apple pencil 2nd gen or would i need to get a tablet on pc?
Tokyou!!! Yeah, it's hot dude! Japan's like southeast usa, hot, humid, and fulla mosquitoes! Your sweat won't work when it's humid, so drink water and salts! lots of electrolytes!!!!
The clean confident lines and solid composition in the "bad" art thumbnail still looks decent even though you try to make it look as horrible as possible 🤣
I've been a watcher of your videos for a very long time, and your tutorials have helped me and many others endlessly. However, I do also enjoy seeing more personal and creative content from you, and the Chroma Island series has always been a favourite part of your channel for me. I think you're worth more than just tutorials and servicing other artists, and would love to see you bring back more free form passion projects, and bring back Chroma Island.
I spend more time charting out the most efficient, productive and effective study plan than actually studying...😭. Great video by the way, Marc! Always a pleasure to learn from you!
Try squinting to simplify depth, and map out the subject before sketching the actual forms, simple line for the spine, legs and arms. the upper arms and legs are roughly the same size so cut those in half to see where the elbow/knees lay. Just simplify firms and consider their relationship to the rest of the subject (ie, legs are two tapering cylinders that make up almost half of our height)
@@Lizard1582 i’ve been trying to do this! i also practice by looking at photos of real people and drawing shapes over them then next to the photo to represent the body parts. i just need to be more patient i guess, bc i’m clearly not someone who “gets it” easily with this subject matter. 😭😂
@@Lizard1582I learned this recently, when looking at depth in an object or shape, there’s the x axis for length, y axis for height. And the z axis. Can this help for leaning the depth of an object in your opinion?
@@thaaboijay7162 That sir, is the foundation 3-point perspective and its the ultimate confirmation that a subject is in the 3rd dimension. If by "depth" you mean how the subject falls in 3-D space that yes, it's incredibly useful knowledge for that.
@@Lizard1582 Okay good! Im a step in the right direction. And by depth I just meant the part of an object that emphasizes the 3 dimensionality of it. Like how a cube has the front plane, the top plane and the side plane that shows it’s depth.
Great video as always Marc-sensei! Hope you are enjoying Japan! Quick question: What's the best use for the smudge brush? I already appreciate the free brushes, I just want to know how to use them for maximum value of course!
That was well explained. Ill have to eatch it a few more times to get it into my memory, but that information qas easy to understand. For most of my art life, i was copying what I saw. And i didnt expect that to five me a huge jump in art.
Every time a video of yous pops up, it becomes more clear on what I need to do to improve. Now, I study when there is a specific thing that intrigues me or I have trouble drawing. Also using a ton references, breaking things down into simple shapes, and focusing hard on construction while I work on my project has been more beneficial since I am forced to improve on all fundamentals on the fly. Also, does anyone know how he records this timelapse without the program’s interface?
dude i love how goofy and giving you are in these videos! thanks for the free education :D i went to art school but still love your channel for staying on top of the basics!
Hey i got a suggestion for the next video! I recently had struggles with the semi realsm style, it is a style in which most people don't keep the lineart at the end. Which with the wrong process will end up in a piece not really well defined. Could you make a video about rendering without lineart please? Love your stuff, have a great day!
How long do these drawings take you in the bg? In hours? How much is the footage sped up? I wanna know because I find that I want to work afap but that can lead to burnout. I wanna find a good pace.
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed. I've tried learning to draw seriously back in my teenage years, but at some point plateaued and lost all interest because of that and other reasons as well. Many years later I try again but I was feeling like autopiloting, couldn't figure out the "right" mentality for drawing. Regardless of the end result I felt like I was doing it all wrong. I'm rebooting my career with this mindset! :)
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain taught me so much I didn't know about observing that I wish I knew when I was in middle school trying to draw anime for the first time. I really recommend this book to anyone who's starting out. It's short and it'll explain why your drawings might be bad.
Sir it is very expensive i couldn't afford it because of financial issues Sir if you could then please give me access to the arts school program pleaseee
Im going to try my best to get this good , but i need to start practicing i already had a talent for it , but i kept quitting because of my envy for other artist now that fire has been lite again ive been drawong since the 3rd grade , and now its time for me to uit another level of art , and the way you draw is the way i want ro be able to draw , everything with detail , muscles, wrinkles in clothes your style is the style im looking for the style im trying to attain.
One tip I have and I started using myself recently is related to observation skills - when you look at a drawing someone else made, at a photo or at real life stuff or people, try seeing how well you can visualize the inside of it, the structure, the skull, the things that comprise that thing or person or animal or whatever. The more you do it, the more your brain will know how to do it better.
My problem is that I did a study once, and it came out looking almost perfect. Except the proportions were all off. Like, the nose was proportioned exactly right. It looks identical to the study. Which I was very proud of. But, I had zoomed in too much and the nose was miniature on the character's face.
1. Observe shape, sizes , how it looks like from real life , its color , its shinyness 2. Study fundamental art rules, such as using shapes first before going into deeper details , using guidelines ,how to color or something, it's like the first one 3.The trust of your drawing memory by not relying that much on any references that you are looking to Art is hard even with 2 years progress i think i always see what my flaws are and always tried to eliminate them, It takes years to be good at it and if you're talented in art then you can consider yourself as a person who has a good perspective in art or started earlier. Always start early in doing art and if you're a late starter that's up to you
I am struggling with drawing with my elbow, i am too used to use only wrist, so my hand is pretty much pinned to the table, are there any tips how to make it easier to learn it properly (like elevating my tablet or something)?
I just want to say thank you, you're videos have shown me that the main reason I can't draw the things I like is my lack of anatomy knowledge or not using a reference when drawing something. Like the pose in my head will be so clear but for some reason when I try to execute it I can't seem to figure out what things are supposed to look like. It makes me end up having horrible proportions or just having a piece that looks very stiff (if that makes any sense) instead of having a nice flow with expressiveness and emotion.
I'm very thankful for the past months stop working in drawing perspective, I've used the method of science to learn faster . I was shock about the results thank you 😊 for all tips and advice
I have sooo got to see the process of you drawing one of these bad thumbnails. What thoughts go into all the little details? What made you choose that particular shape of lip, but keep the structure of the face largely intact? I need to knoooow.
