    Marc, i recently just recommended your art program to a friend as a Christmas gift to her kid, as she loves drawing and is hungry to learn. She'd already gone through most of your RUclips videos. Ever since Christmas, she has been, according to her mother, drawing and watching your program videos through the night and going to bed in the morning. 😂 Thanks for making such an awesome program.

      That's not what is meant by "standards," here.
      The idea is to sincerely believe that you can indeed achieve the things you look at someone doing, and thank right now that you can't. The "standard" being referred to here has to do with the work put in, not the result that comes out.

    • @Heisenburg17

      1. Our Vision is kinda far from reality and that's don't get simple basic things done. 2. High standards make it a painful experience because you will look at the best and hate your creations that are nice for your level. 3. Changing habits almost unreal and a makes it even more painful. I would recommend relax and enjoy the process, take good sleeps and pause a lot to recharge inspiration. Yes, this field is hard and for autistic personalities. Don't be delusional. Thank you and much love!

      Marc's art for this week (which is excellent!) is fan art of the popular anime/manga series *Frieren* The art itself is similar to the *Frieren* artist, Tsukasa Abe, with touches of Mika Pikazo. The only thing I would say is that Frieren wouldn't pose like that. If you look at the official artbook or read the manga, you will never see a pose like that as Frieren never tries to act cute. It's not her nature.
      Mika Pikazo is an amazing artist, but I actually prefer her earlier art. Her current art style is too busy for my eyes. If you want to learn more about her style there are a number of great YT videos which deconstruct her current style. Mika Pikazo uses great colors (triadic harmony), basic brushes (g-pen for hard edges, watercolor), Clip Studio Paint which has a great tool for easily creating screen tones/color screen tones, and Photoshop for final image manipulation. Mika's layer structure is similar to many Japanese artists: base layer + shadows 1 + shadows 2 + highlights (4 layers and sometimes 5 layers: additional highlight).

    I realised last year around December that if I had tried the year-long structured plan you gave I'd be a lot better at art at that point in time. One other thing I realised is the importance of scrapping everything not in the main 'vision' as you put it. Failing at the task, important to me because I obsessed over a detail that in hindsight I didn't care for is a rather terrible feeling. Felt a lot worse than just cutting- out secondary tasks ever did, no matter how many of them. These are all skills worth learning, only problem is it's gonna take like a year to get decent progress now that they're at the forefront. Better at art by 2026 sounds almost as good as better at art by 2025 I suppose. ^^

MY goal this year is to practice drawing body forms,hands,arms ,heads etc and draw ONE landscape drawing in any form that is a serious project and looks presentable!
    Doesnt sound like a lot , but at my current speed i can draw a good looking hand in 4 hours and my last character isnt done yet and i started it 5 days ago :D haha.

Each week, I diligently sketch intricate anatomy ref studies and master studies and consistently progress. Good music is made not only with notes, but with silences between them too. Give your brain some real resting time and see the magic! 😉

To be honest when I ever wanted to do stuff I just wanted to do it because I thought it is cool, I was never really thinking what I want to accomplish by doing and developing it. Setting goal is so crucial. Second thing, if you can't set a goal, you have to ask yourself if the thing you want to do really matters? Thanks MB!

The realisation struck me that even with the discount it was really expensive when converted to my curreny 😭😭😭 I understand that it's definitely going to be worth the price, but I can't fit that one time payment into my budget, disappointingly.
    But even without it, I'll try to learn things without the program!!!

      @ElvenCouncellor 8 месяцев назад +1

      That's great. Stick to it. The first few weeks it's gonna be hard to stay consistent but it's definitely worth it.
      Btw almost all artists use some kind of reference when drawing. They might make changes to that reference but when working they always always use reference. Drawing something with reference is always going to look better than if u didn't use reference. Especially if you're a beginner drawing without reference shouldn't be your primary goal. But definitely do practice drawing without reference once in a while. I'd say around 1-2 hrs a week can be spent practicing drawing from imagination.

    My new years resolution for this year is to level up my art. I've been drawing almost my entire life already, but I felt it was time to really define my skills, hence why I decided to join the art school program right after Christmas. I'm seeing improvements already, mostly thanks to the gesture drawing that I've been purposefully avoiding in the past... I'm excited about the process and I'm sure that by the end of the year, my art will be twice as good as it is now! Thanks for your hard work, Marc!

  • @ElvenCouncellor
    @ElvenCouncellor 8 месяцев назад

    Well I can proudly say that I came really close this time. I managed to accomplish everything except 1. And that one thing I didn't manage to do was complete one sketchbook. That didn't happen because I kept drawing in 5 different sketchbooks.
    I began taking art seriously towards the end of 2022 and I've made a lot of progress since then. In 2023 I did the 100 heads challenge. Drew every single day. Got better at gesture. Learnt some anatomy, made a short 6 page comic, started learning to work digitally and a bunch of other stuff
    Basically I think it's really important to try a lot of different stuff especially when you're starting out. I'm still not sure what direction I wanna go with my art but I'm definitely getting closer. You never know what you like unless you try it out. Also trying out different things can help to stop things from getting boring.

    1. Build a strong vision around your goal, something you can point at and say "if I don't put in the work today I won't get there".
    2. Set the standards that you have to uphold for that vision.
    3. Build your habits and raise your standards slowly.

    I loved this, but I think for the first part you meant “feeling/hype” instead of “will power”.
    The good feeling/hype come and go, but what will keep u going and be consistent is will power/discipline. Every time u keep working on improving some skill despite how u feel (especially when u are not feeling motivated) you strengthen your discipline/will power which are like your muscles. And the bigger your muscles, the more you will be able to do/push forward.
    For most people, the vision/goal may be great. But the feeling won’t always be enough to pull us. But what will keep us going is discipline/will power.

    Good advice, although I disagree with the willpower portion. Willpower is a muscle, and is something one can develop by doing the things that they don't necessarily want to repeatedly and consistently. Doing so helps build willpower and discipline in one's life, which then enables someone to do more. Like a muscle, willpower can also atrophy if you stop doing things you don't like to do. There's some really cool research that's been coming out of the part of the brain that controls willpower.
    Not really important, as the video more or less provides a good layout for exercising the willpower "muscle," but wanted to add that willpower isn't something that should be thrown out. People just use it wrong most of the time (myself included).

    Honestly it's not procrastination. I've been drawing my entire life, and started digital 13-14 years ago. I'm not a beginner. But now it's impossible to find motivation due to AI being rampant already, stealing jobs left and right and making people misunderstand digital art + shit social media algorithm that doesn't show your art to your followers anymore unless you post 24/7 (which contradicts art taking days or weeks), no matter how many followers you have. It RUINS motivation. I've always drawn to connect with other people, which was easy to do before, but now...

    With the digital art school program, since I'm using Clip Studio Paint, should I just skip the Photoshop terms? Or is there still information in them that's still somehow relevant to me?

    I made a new year resolution to cut social media out of my life. Things like Facebook, Twitter and those other brainrot apps. I was spending 2 hours a day looking at mindless shit like politics, sports and video game dramas and I hate all 3 subjects with a passion. No more. It quite literally wrecks your brain and the only thanks you are getting is your data being used to train some LLM for free. A bit like how AI scrapes art from the Internet and allows some rando to make a living from selling AI generated soulless NSFW works
