the funny thing about gender difference in drawing.... everyone seems to give female characters long eyelashes, but the reality is that, irl man have longer eyelashes naturally :D and than you see a bunch of memes abt "my bf's lashes are longer than mine" but...thats complitely natural tho
Ooooh
I tend to make male characters have longer eyelashes because of this fact. If the girl is wearing makeup though she may have massive eyelashes
Men's eyes are usually set deeper in the skull and, as a result, the upper eyelid looks more hooded, which makes the eyes and eyelashes look smaller compared to the rest of the face. Women's faces tend to be smaller, the eyes are set less deep and the eyebrow ridges aren't as pronounced which makes the eyes look bigger in proportion to the face. Add makeup and you're left with the illusion that female eyelashes are longer than male's.
why is this so trueee? my boyfriend has sweeping lashes and I constantly tell him I'm gonna cut them off out of pure jealousy ! xD
also, i feel like people of different races have different length's of eyelashes. like with Indians for example, both male and females have super long thick eyelashes, so maybe race also matters when drawing characters
first step: draw a circle.
second step: struggle for fifteen minutes before crawling into a ball and crying.

You ever feel like you forget how to draw?
I've been drawing every day for around 5 years and I feel like I'm losing it.
Sounds like an art block to me. Just take a break and do something else. At some point you will pick up the pen again - but don't expect to much from yourself then. Even though you might still have the knowledge, your musles and your vision-to-paper have lost some bits (due to the drawing break). So start with some fun little things and not a big artwork.
I always make this mistake and am frustrated afterwards.
Good luck in your journey to overcome art block.
Gonna throw in my agreement with Byron's observation. I too have had to take several hiatus in between art flows. I never keep track of how long either, whatever my brain and muscle memory needs it takes. When muse hits, it hits hard and often, when I try drawing again, I scare myself with how close the image matches the mental picture... and that's not counting how quickly I can complete it too.
Another suggestion; try switching mediums while taking it slow. If you work digitally, go back to pencil and paper (sketches, doodles, etc.). If you do character specific stuff, try landscape or still-life. Go industrial, practice perspective, abstract, water color, work on color theory a bit.
Don't plan anything serious right off the bat. Go back to your roots, the reason why u wanted to start drawing in the first place. Is it fun? Relaxing? Challenging? Satisfying? Try to remember how you feel when you're create, and it'll carry over into whatever you do!!
Imma stop there. Best wishes!
go watch some movies, listen to some music, go out and observe nature, read some comics... you need to refresh your mind and at the same time deposit some influences to you bank account (imagination, references)
That's me right now.
Update: Nvm, that was just my emotional numbness.

@@yoyop0ptart Rough. My stories are still spinning in my head and I'm still a decent artist, but the past year was pretty difficult-
Everyone in the shop I work in quit, I had to start working more ot, then I quit, then I went back two months later because no job would pay me that much but I still had to work way too much.
Got disappointed in my art again, realized I'd never find the time to be as good as I want to be.
Though, more recently I've realized I have all the time in the world! It's not like I cant refine my craft in ten years. I've also realized a lot of the comics and manga that I love aren't nearly as polished as I first thought they were and that I shouldn't judge my own stuff nearly so harshly- that being said I'm still not drawing at the moment.
I'd like to, but I still get annoyed at myself every time I pick up a pencil.
I'll do it. I will... I need to be in a better place first.- mentally, physically...
Thanks for asking ^_^
That has actually been on my mind lately and no has asked.
@@Xsyuanari Hey bud, I can see you have come to some very important conclusions -- well done. You are absolutely right, you shouldn't beat yourself up about not being able to do art at the moment. You still have a lot of time, but perhaps more importantly, you are more likely to get smoothly to a place where you can draw again if you are kind to yourself, focus on one thing at a time abd give yourself some time. I really think you are doing the right thing, and if the ideas are still spinning in your head, that's great, that puts you in an even better place when you are ready to put pen to paper. Really well done, congrats.
I've been drawing all my life and I think I'm pretty good already. Thing is, I still have problems tackling the basics when it comes to creating characters. so this course actually helps a lot!
I can watch the entire process, but still be awed and amazed at how amazing the head looks.
I understand the process, but then when I try to apply it... my drawing look as good as a badly drawn blobfish
I love your style so much
Generally:
- We suffer the same-face-syndrome when it comes to drawing girls.
- There are some days when we can't even draw a simple static pose right.
- We often feel like our sketches always look better than the finished product.
- Customers somehow seem to favor the first sketch out of the tens or hundreds of others that come after.
Anyone cares to add?
-Repetitive Facial expressions
- when you draw a pretty decent face but then the mouth won’t do anything for you to help with the chin because it looks like a cartoon when you mouth and chin are jacked up.
T.T
-We can never get the opposite eye/ear to be as symmetrically perfect to how we finally drew the first one. 😑
-Can't draw a fucking circle

Dude. I have ran into the problem of drawing characters for years. You've literally paved the way for me to develop my own style, and giving clear instructions on how to envision each part of the face. Thank you. This is going to help so much and stop me getting stuck at the same stage every time I try.
This was very helpful and stimulating. Thank you for this.
I'm 30 years old. Art has always been a passion of mine but I was never good at it cause I didn't have the patience or steady hands.
I'm grateful for digital art because I dont have to worry much about my shaky hands.
I'm self taught in Photoshop and have made my own book covers but I want to do more.
I'm definitely going to take your class when I have the money saved up. But I want to practice with traditional art first.
I just got into digital art, and drawing more generally, for the first time in about a decade and felt so overwhelmed by all the stuff to learn. It's definitely been a lot of fun so far but is one of those things where I didn't know where'd be best to begin.
Your videos have been a godsend, I stumbled upon them on my lunch break and I'm so excited to practice when I'm done! I am especially grateful you went over comic style heads instead of full on portraits (though I have that video saved too) because as a newcomer I think all the resources aimed at trying to recreate something real and detailed can be really dry for someone who just wants to do a more cartoony style but doesn't have their own style yet.
Tbh I'll be using your videos to establish a lot of my fundamentals in addition to my own interests/references. I really enjoy your format, pacing and general content. Thank you for your work!
subbed. you never lied about saying this would improve my drawing instantly... it honestly did. the first part aka the base really is the most important part as it makes the other steps a lot more easier as you wouldn't have to guess and keep on undo-ing your lines for details. thankyou so much!
I really like how you broke down the face in this and then rotated it to show different positions. I’ve always made lines, but never made them curved or dimensional. This will help me so much! Thank you.
I really love the eye technique! its very casual but gives a starting point for a very good eye shape, as well as weighting the eyelashes well. Thanks a lot this was very useful :)
Honestly this is one of the most helpful videos I have seen. I have been obsessed with improving my art skills lately and I have been terrified to start working on faces because they're so sensitive to any mistake making them look off. This dude, though, made it super easy and simple and I picked it up almost immediately. 10/10
Woah this is so simple. All the other videos just told me what to do and didn’t explain how, why and what we needed it for. This one did all of that in a way that my brain could actually process and understand. This is heaven sent.
I'm a young artist who has been stuck with a similar style for ages and this channel has helped me grow! especially since now I can grow out of my comfort zone and try to draw my own characters my own way instead of trying more and more styles without seeing any signs of improvement! it's really nice to see myself grow and this channel has given me so many good tips that I use at a semi-basic level but they still have helped me out of my little hole. I never thought I would have so much fun making characters like I used to. it's nice

I'll tackle this when I can draw a decent enough circle first.
Eh, just start it.
Trust me, you are the one who stresses the most about them.
1. Take your pencil.
2. Draw a circlish line very lightly.
3. Make adjustments to it (lightly) where it doesn't look right until it starts to.
4. Pick a line that looks best out of the mess you have on your paper and trace it. Boom, you have a decent circle.
Nobody said it must be a single motion.
So have you?
