Plot twist : the monsters who were the prisoners still had humanity in them but still chose to mercilessly kill out of anger.
thats why you use volunteers and not potentially violent prisoners as test subjects for transformation in to some extra capable mutants
They was forced to lose their humanity..I would be pissed beyond belief. Im angry enough now to burn som billionaires alive, imagine I lose self control and inhibitions.
Plus gain enhanced durability, strength and speed. That enough should make this movie make you think about the victims are the murdered, but the killers.
That's not a plot twist, that's literally a theory.

The visuals and cinematography of this is so underrated. Movie may not be masterpiece, but it was really a good SciFi movie to watch. This movie deserves more. Really an underrated gem.

I love sci fi movies
They only show very little eye candy CG, at the beginning of the movie...a disappointment.
they did do well with it i was frankly surprised it wasnt more popular. but figured it came down to timing, the unique name, possible marketting, and the bane of most decent movies.... critics.. like you say sure its not perfect. but its well made shot and acted and you can tell real effort was put into it.
1st thought: Seems kinda dumb to purposefully turn humans into monsters for colonizing purposes.
2nd thought: Turning humans into monsters is a Resident Evil kinda-thing.
3rd thought: This movie is Resident Evil in spaaaaaaaaaaace.

@@canadapapers not as interesting as biological experiments. Also the point was to have a human survive a variety of conditions, meaning they could colonize other planets with horrible or non satisfactory circumstances like little oxygen or higher gravity.

The fact that sy became a monster and didn't lose his humanity was truly incredible..and the best part is that both him and indi managed to go to Flotilla
But what happens to Sy now? I wonder if he'll become some kind of test subject. It can't be easy to live life like that.

I'm trying to get over my recap binge already. I like movies not because of the story, rather the drama, character development, dialogue , effects, etc. In reality, a lot of these movies suck. We are seeing the summary of the plot idea that was pitched to whoever bankrolled the movie. To take the plot to a great movie needs great producing and acting, and most movies don't have it.

I like how the humanified the monster in the last scenes and that they didn't hesitate for a moment to kill the father

The connection between Sy and Indie at the end, seemed a bit weird. While I love a good subversion of expectation in a movie, so I liked how the father got killed, it probably should have been the father who got monsterfied at the end, and only retained a small portion of his humanity due to his love for Indie and need to protect her. It'd weird that "random guy" Sy would be like that toward Indie who he literally just met.
You've obviously never bonded with someone through trauma or in a horrible situation. Sometimes those connections run deeper than a family connection.
@@nono-ch8oy Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it would be better from a realism standpoint, I'm saying it would have probably been better from a narrative standpoint. The ending tying up the connection between the father and his daughter would have resulted in a better narrative than "random guy connects with main characters daughter in last 5 minutes of the film". The lack of buildup to what allowed Sy to do what no one else on that planet was able to do, resulted in a bit of a misstep in narrative flow, and makes the audience go "wait, what made HIM so special?", and is a bit of an unsatisfying way to end things. The father though had a ton of buildup to a connection with his daughter over the course of the movie, only to kill him and instantly replace him with a stranger in the daughter's eyes in the last 5 minutes.
It has nothing to do with "magical family bonds", it's about story flow. It would have made exactly as little sense if Sy had been built up as caring for some guys daughter all movie, only to kill Sy at the very end and then suddenly have the father step up as her guardian at the very end, using his completely-unbuilt-upon connection with his daughter to not lose his humanity when being monsterfied.
That would be just as bad of storytelling in my opinion.

When you lose your own kid, you can easily bond with another abandoned kid thinking this could've been my kid and I'd want someone to save them. I don't think it's weird since I know exactly how he would be feeling, and I'd also save that little girl, bcuz that's exactly what I'd want for my own kid.

Movie where the main character dies? Damn, that's new...
The daughter and Sy are the real main characters. That's why the father didn't have much back story other than he got fellow crew members killed. Sy had a much more in-depth backstory. The father just provided a survival bunker. The daughter provided a reason to get back down to the city and a tug at the heartstrings.
The base is basically A PHALANX, PRAISE THE EMPERAHHHH
This movie really deserves more credit! It never got the spotlight when it was released.

Poor kiddo. I'm hoping I don't die early while my kid's still growing up, unlike my dad, then stepdad did. Both died of cancer. Dad was 51, stepdad was 69 (month from 70 exactly). Knew them for 16 years each.
Dad got cancer from chain smoking (screw that, not gonna see me smoke) but stepdad didn't do or eat anything that'd raise cancer likelihood, so it was a surprise, to say the least.
If I become a dad, I'm gonna fight through whatever God allows in my life so my son or daughter, wife too, have me there.
Losing my dad and stepdad was tough. Kinda killed me a bit inside.
Mom felt great loss from it too. Especially took her by surprise how fast stepdad died after being sent hope, told mom he'd live 2 more weeks, but he died in just 2 days. They screwed up that calculation.
Mom's still around, but she's growing closer to 70 and hopefully she can lose weight soon and thus raise her survival likelihood.

My biggest problem with this is the condensation inside their helmets. If you can't make helmets with vents or blowers or something to prevent condensation, then get straight out of the movie props business!
