Only downside I can think about everyone being immortal is eventual overpopulation, many people can be born, but no one can die, overpopulation is inevitable, and resources aren't infinite
If that had to be the case, giving birth would be criminalised. I think only a select few can be allowed to do so.
just move to other planets
Most Resources are actually not finite
Well if everyone is immortal then they don’t need resources lol because the live forever they can’t die so they don’t need food or water
Also eternal > Immortal
Always remember if you’re in a subversive group of 4+ people, there’s a 50:50 chance that at least one member of the group is a fed.
lmao that is so true
the four horses ate water then drank some poop then yesterday nobody cares but then humans eat the planets then who asked your mom is susser bakaer
unless you're the fed
If you think you died, there’s a 50:50 chance that you didn’t die.
I feel if I click on that timestamp you accidentally created, it will send me into a wormhole
Actually I've been thinking that they're doing the wrong thing. They should keep the immortality system in place but remove the drugs, and those who don't want to participate in the immortality system can just live outside it.
edit: wow that's a lot of likes
It’s based on the premise of who ever wrote this story that immortality is wrong. And living and dying is the natural course of life. And extending one’s life isn’t natural or good so it needs to be extinguished. But trust me if people found the secret to immortality they would use it for themselves. Maybe a loved one or two.
@@whitedragoness23 Their strongest argument is the one about resources but voluntary euthanasia would happen eventually because your body would eventually accumulate damage.
@@whitedragoness23 The bias from the author is so strong that they had to invent emotion inhibiting to create a downside to immortality. It's too easy.
I agree...was thinking the same thing the whole time. Let people choose where they want to be.
Nah, people who attained Immortality will have many advantages over the mortals in many ways which will disrupt system and life on earth.

Death is what gives life meaning
@@chotoji1177 I disagree, setting yourself goals and setting out in achieving them is what gives life meaning. Death is just the end of it and is something that can rush you towards that goal, but it does not give meaning.

This movie is so inconsistent, but mystery recap’s voice and explanation is so good.

@@haitiansouljadex3186 they always try to paint being able to live for generations, experiencing everything, etc as some horrible inhumane thing, because death somehow is really great
and then they go and make the guys killing eachother be the heroes, because obviously

the fact that Pilot never did anything bad, made the movie lackluster.
they just made him the villain because of plot, but he never did made anyone suffer.
there's no reasonable motivation why you should stop him from sharing his immortality thoughts (even tho it was stolen form his old partner which is really not enough)

Usual example is immortality without eternal youth, but mental changes can be bad too.
Best outcome - get rid of the evil dude and let everyone be immortal WHILE having emotions
Those who don't want to be immortal anymore can just stop whenever they want since they have those diffusers.

The talk about immortality reminds me about SCP: The End of Death where a scientist manages to kill death and, this, makes everyone immortal.
After a few thousand years, everyone wants to die and they go by lengths to make pills that stops brain activity, the closest thing to death.

To be fair, that one is massively different from this premise. Because in that one, A: Your body still ages, so after 90 years or so, you're basically immobile and in constant pain, essentially decaying alive without being able to die, and B: You cannot physically die even from external sources. Which is way worse.
Im getting real tired of the “Immortality is bad” plot every young adult sci-fi seems to pedal. Honestly alot of contemporary sci-fi plots seem to have the premise of technology is bad and humans must abandon it and become monke.

this happens when you don't have the money to produce a decent distopian young adult sci-fi drama and you convolute the story so much that characters just talk all the time explaining and summarizing things each other because the budget doesn't allow a single action scene to enhance a flatline plot. George Lucas with a 1000th of the budget of this cheap schlock made thx 1138 in 1971...and in that masterpiece characters remain most of the time in silence!!!
So the issue is not the budget, it's the writing and storyboarding, no?
So true. Even on 10 minute recap this movie is boring. 😄
The issue is its a copy paste story line from every dystopian movie from the last thirty years. Betrayal then redemption of a female character who ends up being the real saviour. You can set you watch to it now. Worst thing is all the directors think they are edgey and are the first to do it.

I'd love to live longer but not immortal. How painful it must be to see people keep dying, civilization change or collapse by your very own eyes. I'd rather have emotions and enjoy life to the fullest than to live in constant sense of emptiness.
I'd take immortality any day
Me too
Dude, you will still see your family pass away. So whats the difference. You will meet new people, learn new things, Explore the universe, find the meaning of life. The possibilities are endless and you are just saying: nah cause I will see my family die, like bruh it will happen either way.
@@theFishy_ eventually every meeting becomes meaningless as they die off too. Not everyone will be privy to the idea of being immortal.
Same
Downsides of being immortal, 1. Living in poverty. 2. Getting tired of life. 3. Overpopulation. 4. Going insane due to living forever. 5. Lack of empathy due to living forever. 6. Feeling like life's a repeating loop. 7. Depression. 8. Suffering pain from disease or other things because you're only immortal, doesn't mean you can't feel physically/emotional pain. 9. Amnesia because you won't always remember things that happened, and the list goes on but it starts to get darker and you'll actually need to hear hear someone saying it because writing it doesn't really make sense so i won't continue.
So in a way losing emotions is the only way to better immortality.
@@IAMATTHETOP yeah I guess? But you'd also have to not feel physically pain to really better immortality, but yeah, in some way losing emotion can better immortality
You are describing mortals, ageing ones notably.
To keep your 25 yo capacity to explore the world, the emotions and the people won't get you depressed. And immortals have much more opportunity to solve problems of limited resources and equality than mortals rushing to be the one with "the more tools at his dead", as one dummy billionairs stated it.
Achievement is what you can pass, not what you owns. So it's never ending.
@@gengis737 hmmm... Your particularly right in saying that what I have stated sounds as if I'm describing a mortal, I won't fight you on that but your statement on which immortals have much more time to fix things does intrigue me
@jigi the thing about immortals (humans exactly) is that, they can be idiots, due to the fact that in the end, we're all human. So although immortals have much more time to fix things (basically like an infinity), that doesn't change the fact that they're knowledge isn't lacking, the highest IQ score is only at 228 after all. Making some immortal doesn't change the fact that you aren't stupid, sure you have literally an infinity to live meaning that humanity can learn LOADS of things they weren't able to before, but as I said about the downsides of being immortals, just because your immortal doesn't mean you can suffer the same type of shit a normal, specifically an aging, mortal can't. Maybe, as humanity developed some of those factors will disappear but not all, living forever sounds amazing but, the feeling of tiredness from living so long will be the thing that'll get you. Plus, we don't truly know the elements of immortality, you could still age.
I am addicted to you recap bro😍

I want to be immortal. I’m prepared to do anything to be immortal. By immortal I don’t just mean that I will stop aging. I mean if I lose a limb I’ll grow it back in 10 seconds.
I believe that’s Fast regeneration, but you still need to feel the pain.
I mean there would need to be a huge energy source for all that mass creation or your body would wither having to leech from the rest of the body to create that miraculous regeneration.

if everyone became immortal in real life it would be a disaster, i see benefits but way to many negatives for it to work out
Yes like there are stupid people everywhere imo only the smart and the geniuses are allowed to get this kind of treatment and I’m pretty sure these geniuses would be a far more of a benefit like making the world a better, happier and safer place. And after they have fulfilled their goal they would probably want to die since nobody wants to be immortal if there is heaven

Being immortal means infinite suffering and boredom. I mean if you already got super rich, and all your life's desires were acquired, what's next? Life becomes tiresome. At least when we die there is this surprise about what will happen next. We can find comfort that we are mortal and all our suffering, problems will die off too. That nothing is permanent in this world but change.
If a civilization can achieve immortality then I am damn sure that they can travel through space as well. So why not explore planets?
Interplanetary domination, intergalactic domination
They would get bored, they'd probably get bored enough that the only thing that would satisfy is the discomfort and pain of others, they would do dark stuff simply for entertainment, No Human shall be given immortality I decree anyone who becomes immortal shall be instantly hacked to death, full dismemberment, cant be too careful now! lol.

Why is it always a binary choice with these types of movies? Mortal vs immortal, vampire vs human, cerebral implant vs non, part of the hive mind or being individual, emotion vs no emotions. There is rarely ever any balance or hybrid model of this and it is always an all-or-nothing choice of one side forcing itself on the other.
Hybrids would probably break the system to the in universe dilemma. Happens alot in plots like this
Because binary is simple and easy to consume for the average user. Writing a good story with complex, ambiguous, and nuanced gray areas is infinitely harder and is only appreciated by a fraction of the potential audience.

Immortality sounds like such a chore.
That´s entirely up to you. If you maintain healthy lifestyle, you may not feel old even in your 70s. Besides, most people start suffering from diseases, when they retire - as they get out of the daily rhytm, they had to maintain, while working.
So for old people to have long and healthy life, our society should include them until the very end. Instead of abandoning them the moment, they´re too old to do their work.
If you start suffering from health issues early, it´s because of your past wrongdoings against your body. Except cancer, which is an unlucky accident.

Do you mean time?

Interesting movie
It won’t be that long but can you do a recap of Halo: Forward Unto Dawn
imagine saying death is an expensive thing
Immortality is no curse, and only limited fools can think that. Most movies about it are mere attempts at making a dream look bad because it is still beyond our reach, like "I can´t have that anyway, so let me convince myself it´s not really as good as it seems". Aging, being ill, suffering, dying against your will is the real curse we are burdened with. Living without aging is heavenly, and there is a whole UNIVERSE to be learned, experienced, discovered, which should occupy ever-young people for thousands of years or even scores of thousands. Losing emotions? Ridiculous, quite the opposite! Imagine loving someone for a thousand years and then loving for a thousand more! And of course, there are several degrees to being immortal. There is ammortality, there is immortality, and there is indestructibility. And finally, death will always be an option, for those who really decide they do not want to exist anymore, you can die anytime YOU want.
awesome content as always! Can you make a recap of the book "Abduction to the Ninth Planet : A True Report by the Author Who Was Physically Abducted to Another Planet"? I think you would be great for this!
It reminds me a movie back in the 70s called zardoz staring Sean Connery
I like the movie, but it's just another "anti-living/pro-death" sentiment. If a scientific breakthrough like this is ever discovered, emotions would unlikely be affected as other bodily functions. Also for those asking about overpopulation or life becoming "meaningless", this would only be applied to a select few. Mostly wealthy people, but I'll make sure at least those people would be smart, empathetic and would strive self-improvement. So if you don't like immortality, np! You're not that important. Those trying to achieve it wouldn't even care to force it onto you.
Even IF we figure out how to stop aging (which most media focus on) it's not real immortality because you can still die from unnatural causes like wounds or accidents, and even IF you live long enough you'd still be dying at the heat death of the universe, or any sort of civilization-collapsing catastrophe, so any way you look at it you're not immortal.
How to cope with those challenges is actualy a fascinating topic given the slow rise of anti-aging research but it's always easier to come up with an idiotic strawman dystopia with a DYING = GOOD LIVING = BAD premise.
