    This movie demonstrates the other part of what I call The Vampire's dilemma: by whittling down the human population to the point that they no longer pose a threat to vampires, the vampires have diminished their prey supply to the point where it can no longer replenish itself.

    • @HelmuthGerka
      @HelmuthGerka 3 года назад +183

      That depends on whos writing the plot, usually vampires don't turn people just by a bite, they also need to add their own blood into the human. So feeding is usually sucking blood without leaving a trace of what happened and only on extremely rare cases the vampire then willingly converts some.

    • @RichardX1
      @RichardX1 3 года назад +328

      @@HelmuthGerka the problem isn't about converting your food supply into competition. The problem is that a vampire's main prey species is notably more proactive in defense against predators than just about every other form of life on this planet.
      Look at it this way. Lions also need to be significantly outnumbered by their prey in order to avoid hunting them to extinction and subsequently starving. However, when lions aren't present, gazelles and zebras do little defensively beyond keeping a watch for predators. They don't seek out nearby prides to wipe them out pre-emptively. Humans have done that, multiple times. Add to that the fact that every 24-hour cycle has a period that is mostly harmless to Humans but potentially lethal to vampires, and you have the reason that modern vampire stories have vampire society intent on concealing their very existence from the herds.

      But the "Just following orders" part does sort of make me dislike him.
      He already turned his brother and now his brother hates him. But then, he goes behind his back and reports him to his higher ups and endangers him.
      It's only when he watched a girl he turned die did he regret the things he's done and I don't understand why. Is she a representation of what he is doing to his brother? Is it because he realizes his superiors can't or won't help his brother? Does he feel guilty after seeing the consequences of his actions?
      He was so loyal to the people he served that he would betray his brother. But then a girl dies and NOW he wants to save his brother? After everything he did that hurt him?

    I liked this movie bc it addressed what would happen in the event of a full scale vampire takeover. And it opened my eyes to how truly weak vampires really were.
    In a lot of movies they're depicted as an Apex Predator. The superior race compared to humans. However they can only survive a single food source. And sunlight can kill them so they can only come out during the night. But to combat this they implemented a lot of safety protocols such as Day Time driving mode for vehicles.
    Each car is equiped with UV shielding and cameras so that they can drive during the day without worrying about getting burned then there's the underground walk way.
    But that's just it. Their entire species is being forced underground. While the humans get to live above ground.
    Then there's the cure. The long sought after cure to vampirism. Treated vampire blood. Genius actually.

    I really appreciate the setting of this film. It's not often you see writers think it through that far; to the point of the world trying to live while adapting to vampirism.

    I read a book similar to this about 2yrs ago. The vamps even found love got married to humans and reproduced. Some vamps chose to become human again some were cool being vamps. It was a cool book.

      I think this was one of the good Live-action Vampire films in the late 2000s. The twilight saga was alright when I was a teen but now looking back it's not for older demographics. I was mostly watching the series for the werewolves, not the Vampires. But I did like the concept of Vampires in an anime series that has some limited Sunlight resistance.
