- **NEW UPDATE 07/30/2024: The Silverstreet 1003 had went through refurbishment process, it was just finished. But unfortunately, this siren still hasn't been reinstalled and there is currently no estimated date for this siren to be reinstalled. It was originally anticipated to be reinstalled back spring 2024.
Previous update from 2023: This siren was removed and was taken to the repair shop for repairs to the siren. The chopper motor is dead. County plans to reinstall this siren by spring 2024. I repeat, this siren will be reinstalled next year.
Recorded on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021. This is a weekly fire/tornado siren test of the Newberry County Fire/Tornado Siren System. This siren was tested every Saturday at noon (now tested at the last Saturday of every month at noon). This siren was FIXED! I thought I was never gonna hear this siren in hi-lo anymore. Thanks to firefighters, emergency management, and siren maintenance for making this repair happen! Solenoid was fixed about a month ago. I tried to record this siren a month ago and siren failed due to radio failure. I also met up with SouthCarolinaSirens for this and he took a drone video for me. This siren is located in Silverstreet, SC at Silverstreet VFD.

The fact that this siren is still working (almost)perfectly just shows how much effort went into these things
you dont need looks in sirens, you need functionality for years to come.

Ah another classic silverstreet video from you, Christopher! Great work as always, and we are very glad this siren was fixed, and for you to record it once more!
Yes
I'm honestly glad it's fixed instead of a replacemen(even though this bolt is overrated). If they haven't done so already, I will try to film this, depending on when I can go to film it.
Awesome that they just had this fixed. I haven't watched the videos of this siren in over a year!
Dear God its back to normal. This is great
Yep
yeah HILO
Well the choppers died
The thing I like most is that it sounds like it did when you first recorded it back in 2012

@@1000BT Yep it sure is.
Yeah
This Thunderbolt is my most favourite siren ever it sounds SO COOL
1962 was it's installation date, so it is 57 years old as of now. What an old girl she is... This siren was possibly repainted in the 70's or 80's considering how rusty it would be if it was never taken care of (Though it is still pretty rusty). The tower that it's mounted to also looks clean, so the tower could have been repainted, too.
Keep goin' strong, Silvertreet!
It was installed in 1962, not 1963.
@@SouthCarolinaSirens That was a typo! Fixing that now, LOL!
ive seen these irl and these are bigger then I thought they would be

Hey I found a thunderbolt in Hartman, AK
This siren's chopper is dead.
Sounds great, hope they repair it correctly, touch up the paint, and fix/replace the front screen on that fabulous yellow horn!👍👍😀😀❗❗
Theyre doing it now (chopper motor broken since 12/31/22) and agreed, they will repair, refurbish and repaint it.

Sounds fine for a rusty one 😁
Just wondering, how is the Siren Collection #3 coming along?
Considering I've seen videos of ones that look mint but they have a broken solenoid box failing blower and or Chopper Motors and inactive rotators? Yea id say so
Serving since the 60’s and sounds like a brand new siren
Hehe big loud thing makes my caveman brain go brrrrrr (on another notr it's cool to see a 1003 still in operation. My favorite siren by far!)
I'm gonna make a miniature version of this, but simplified.
hi Christopher
I cool! You went to record the silverstreet thunderbolt 1003 like I suggested
At 0.75 speed it sounds just like Lake Bluff but with pitch fluctuations
YESSSSS ITS FIXED
This siren can give you nightmares if it’s very old and rusty.
Why not?
Great video!
Awesome video! Brought me on a nostalgia trip, next time there’s a meet up in the Newberry area let me know and I’ll come. Also what camera did you use for audio?
He used a Panasonic HC-V180
@@SouthCarolinaSirens I’m starting to take a liking to that camcorder, maybe I’ll grab one of them.

I had an update. The poor siren got remove idk why. I went back to the SilverStreets Fire dep shows the thunderbolt got remove leaving the stand and the blower. The siren got remove at March 2024. Its sad to see a poor siren working. Beause they said its sounds bad and decided to remove it cuz of the sick sound and chopers. Its sad to see it 😢
Rest in peices😢
My friends are actually gonna put this back up soon. They fully refurbished this siren already.

Is Thunderbolt sound good
There's someone named Roblox thunderbolt sirens and more that falsely reported me just for saying this bolt is overrated. I have screenshots and am willing to share them on Reddit on r/averagesirenkiddie.
The name was changed after I took those screenshots.
Doesn't really sound like chopper 5. its more like chopper 4 to me
At the windup it sounded like it almost hit peak 5 for 2 seconds then it slowly started fluctuating from high 5 to low-mid 5, collector rings are dirty.
@@anonymousarsonist9653 might be the case, though keep in mind the brushes were replaced recently when this was recorded.

Must be one of the late 5M models. It’s got the weather cap commonly found on 4M’s.
1962 mid
It's not. As the guy above said (who is somehow correct) it's a 1963 model. I'm guessing that they had to design a new weather cap in order to fit the solenoid wires. After 1964 I'm going to guess they just decided to use that cap for all thunderbolt types, 1003 or not.

I wonder how long will these Solenoids hold up a year ago the real possibility of this being replaced with a 2001-130 or 508-128 was a almost certainty also how long do they last
The solenoids will easily last over 10 years if properly maintained.
If it gets replaced by anything I’d say their best choice is a Whelen vortex because it can do hi lo
