  • Mitre Saw Cut Test on the Multi Material Evolution R185 SMS Sliding Mitre Saw.
    I finally install a new blade into the Evolution R185SMS sliding mitre saw and test cut all the materials I can throw at it.
    This mitre saw will cut through multi materials such as wood with nails in, mild steel, aluminium, composite material and plastics. All with a perfectly clean cut.

    Tools and equipment used:-
    ► EVOLUTION R185SMS 185MM SINGLE-BEVEL SLIDING ELECTRIC MITRE SAW £99.99 - bit.ly/2K9rwdZ
    ► The blades still aren't available on Screwfix at the time of making this video. But make sure you get the correct one for the mitre saw and not the circular saw. The rotation is different on both blades.

    Thanks for that! Evo have refurbs of these for 60 quid on ebay, came to RUclips to check I'm not buying tat and now I've got one on the way!
    Even tho it was a 3 part review, didn't feel like there was too much waffling, you gave a considered opinion, you used all the gear correctly (cough safety glasses) and your camera isn't you awkwardly holding your phone in one hand. 10/10! most uk diy you tubers are an absolute shambles!

      Thanks so much for you kind words. Yes a really should be wearing *cough safety goggles if I'm demonstrating to the world. I do have a big JCB mitre saw in the background but this one is perfect to move around and use. Does most jobs the DIYer will need it for.

    Great video! A few notes. (Not a criticism!) When I am working with power tools especially saws I wear some ear defenders and safety glasses maybe gloves as well. Also something else to also take note of. They don't recommend using a dust bag when cutting metal since the sparks could ignite and cause a fire. Especially if you were cutting wood with it then metal.
    Great video nonetheless! Hope to see more reviews of evolution products and others! 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

      Yeah I forgot to take that dust bag off when cutting the metal. A very bad idea leaving it on if it's full of sawdust. 👍

      Glad you liked it. I must say it is a great little machine, and I'm not just saying that because they gave me a free one to review. It's great for all sorts of jobs and getting a precise cut.

      Nice! Think I will be getting the R210 CMS since that is perfect for the depth and width of most of the materials that I will be cutting! 👍 £60 at Screwfix absolute bargain!

    To limit breakout in the cuts, lower the head with the telescopic arms fully extended then cut on the back stroke, this changes the angle the teeth cut the lower side to something like a table saw.

    For a vacuum system I've repurposed a cheap lamp (bought secondhand) with 2 flex joints and where the bulb and lampshade would be I made a holder for a vacuum mouthpiece and then just put a very cheap wet/dry multi purpose vacuum cleaner on there. Very easy to fix in a spot behind or near tools and if you get a flash flood or what ever you have your self a movable water hoover. Total cost 40 pounds.

      @@LCWDIY It'll be interesting to see what you make. I'm sure that now with the missus (and nice that she's moved in) in the house she would prefer it doesn't look like a bombs gone of in the house every time you cut 3 boards so it will probably be sooner rather than later with that garage/shed/work space.

    Another great video. As usual, I learned several things.
    I haven’t used a miter saw or circular saw. Once blade has been damaged, can it be used on any other material or will it just damage what I want to cut?

    • @LCWDIY
      @LCWDIY  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your kind words glad you enjoyed it and learn from it. The blade I blunted will still cut wood, it will just be a little bit rougher and slower to cut through. It certainly won't cut through metal properly now.

    Hi just wondering how much bulkier in actual size is the 210 compared to the 185.(not the blade lol). It's just I haven't got room to leave it set up so need something compact that I can store away. I'd prefer the 185 but sold out around my way, so considering the 210..
    Thanks. Hope you can help.

    I’m thinking of buying one of these machines do you know if it can cut through 2x6 piece of wood

    • @LCWDIY

      This model won't but there is a bigger model that will. Although you could use this but you would have to cut half of it then flip it over to cut all the way through.

    Is the multi blade any good with ceramic kitchen /bathroom tiles ? Or is the diamond blade best ?

    • @RetroElectronicRepair
      @RetroElectronicRepair 3 года назад

      I would never use it for cutting ceramic tiles, I think that would be very dangerous. Use a special tile cutter with a diamond blade for that job. 👍.

    Any new videos coming or did the misses moving in slow production?

    • @LCWDIY
      @LCWDIY  5 лет назад +1

      I hope to be starting some videos again soon. Just been setting up a new business now the missus is here so videos have taken a back seat. I really need to get a garage workshop built so I can clear stuff out the house and get on with it again.

    • @Beyondact

      @@LCWDIY I've been looking forward to the garage building videos which is why I'm asking, but I also knew the lady of the house would slow it down but I though her need to not jump over things every where would speed it up some. I will resume my patient waiting mode knowing its coming.

    Thanks for the video, I'm looking to purchase a mitre saw for laminate flooring the whole house. This looks like ideal tool, is there a way to use this to cut the laminate flooring plank the long way, I'm thinking about that last raw of the flooring which will require me making the long cuts. If not, could you recommend any other saw pls?

    • @LCWDIY
      @LCWDIY  4 года назад +2

      It won't cut laminate lengthways you would need a table saw for that. Or the cheaper way would be to use a length of laminate as a straight edge and use a circular saw or jigsaw to cut the length of the laminate.

    Will this cut through 76mm thick skirting?

    • @LCWDIY
      @LCWDIY  4 года назад

      The maximum this will cut is 215mm by 56mm. So no this model won't cut through 76mm thick. You will need the next size model.

    Well they sent you the wrong blade because some dumb dude messed up, I guess the correct one even has the little drawing of the Miter Saw on the corner, so I guess no further highlight is needed, that dude messed up for their brand.

    “If you have a tiny piece of copper left and you don’t stop the blade it could fire it to the other side of the room”
    What in gods green earth are you chatting about. The blade spins toward you from the top meaning down into the table. The small piece of copper would be thrown away from you into the fence. Not forward across the room unless you have reversed the direction of the motor.

    • @LCWDIY
      @LCWDIY  3 года назад +3

      It's a sliding mitre saw. If someone pulls the saw out it will hit the other side of the blade that's now spinning upwards. That's what on god's green earth I am talking about. I've seen other idiots do it. It can also bounce off the fence and hit you in the face.
